Earlier sources: Space

Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

514 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

NASA Seeks US Industry Plans for Commercial Space Stations ↗

Credit: NASA NASA is advancing American leadership in space by taking the next step toward a future where commercial space stations lead the way in low Earth orbit. On Friday, the agency released its final Request for Proposals inviting industry to submit plans for the next generation of commercial space stations. “In alignment with the President’s National Space Policy, NASA is committed to maintaining a sustained American presence in low Earth orbit long after the International Space Station retires,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman. “We will continue to need a place to conduct resear…

Noise Space Learning for VLA Adaptation ↗

Pretrained vision-language-action (VLA) models encode broad manipulation priors, yet adapting them to specific tasks requires balancing limited robot interaction, computational resources, and safety constraints. Noise space learning (NSL) adapts flow-matching-based VLAs by learning a context-conditioned distribution over noise while keeping the pretrained VLA fixed. Building on prior noise-steering methods, we formulate NSL as an interface for VLA adaptation that accommodates different learning algorithms and instantiate it with PPO, SAC, and AWR. Theoretically, we provide an information-theor…

    OGLE-2016-BLG-0523: A Low-mass Brown Dwarf or super-Jupiter in a $>100$ au Orbit ↗

To search for very wide-orbit binary-lens events, we cross-match microlensing events detected by OGLE-IV and KMTNet between 2011 and 2024. After removing contaminants from variable stars, we identify OGLE-2016-BLG-0523 as a microlensing event showing two short-lived bumps in its light curve, with the two separated by 8.36 yr. We investigate three scenarios to explain the two bumps, including a binary-lens single-source (2L1S), a single-lens binary-source (1L2S), and two unrelated single-lens single-source events (2$\times$1L1S). The 1L2S interpretation is excluded due to its poorer fit to the…

Unifying spherical convolutions through lifting ↗

We develop a unified description of convolution on the sphere by lifting to the rotation group. A number of definitions of spherical convolution have been proposed, differing in whether the kernel is axisymmetric or directional, whether the output is on the sphere or the rotation group, whether the signals carry spin, and in their computational cost. No unified treatment exists. Regarding the sphere as the homogeneous space $S^2 \cong \text{SO(3)}/\text{SO(2)}$, we lift a spin $s$ field to the rotation group, convolve on $\text{SO(3)}$, and project back to the sphere through the adjoint of the…

The Redshift-Space Galaxy Power Spectrum at Two-Loop Order ↗

Contemporary large-scale structure analyses center around the galaxy power spectrum, modeled with one-loop perturbation theory. This description naturally breaks down at large wavenumbers, prohibiting the extraction of cosmological information from small-scale clustering. In this work, we present a complete model for the redshift-space galaxy power spectrum up to two-loop order, derived in the framework of the Effective Field Theory of Large Scale Structure. This accounts for a wide variety of effects, including fifth-order galaxy bias, redshift-space distortions, small-scale non-linearities,…

Revisiting the Task of Building Damage Assessment by Satellite Imaging ↗

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, tropical storms, and floods cause extensive damage to buildings, and rapid, reliable damage maps are essential to guide emergency response. Automating this task, referred to as building damage assessment (BDA), from satellite imagery, has become an active research topic at the intersection of remote sensing, computer vision, and machine learning, particularly since supervised deep learning methods were shown to outperform earlier handcrafted approaches. Yet, despite a decade of intense activity and the release of several large-scale datasets, the field la…

NASA Demonstrates Next-Generation Heat Shield Technologies ↗

4 min read Preparations for Next Moonwalk Simulations Underway (and Underwater) A KREPE-3 capsule floats inside the Northrup Grumman Cygnus XL 24 cargo spacecraft on October 7. Inside the capsule is a 3-D printed heat shield designed by researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. NASA NASA is testing heat shields that can keep astronauts safe as they return from missions to the Moon and Mars in an unusual way: by taking out the trash. When Northrop Grumman 24 th cargo resupply mission for NASA undocked from the International Space Station, it carried a fleet of 12 small, experimenta…

How to assess evidence about Space

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
