Spacecraft
This space thread follows spacecraft through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗7 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Recent sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Illumination-Aware Active Perception for Spacecraft Inspection ↗
Harsh and rapidly varying orbital illumination introduces failure modes during spacecraft inspection. Existing planners rely on line-of-sight inspection metrics which perform occlusion checks against a known target and conflate geometric visibility with task-relevant information. These metrics overlook illumination effects including eclipse, self-shadowing, and specular reflection from spacecraft materials and tend to declare components as inspected despite the corresponding images lacking sufficient information. We propose an inspection-planning framework that replaces geometric visibility wi…

Ground‐Based Validation of Hera's Spacecraft Monitoring Camera ↗
Abstract Hera is an ESA contribution to the international planetary defense effort. It is a deep‐space mission to the binary asteroid system Didymos and Dimorphos, designed to investigate the effects of NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), demonstrate autonomous navigation, and support close‐proximity investigation by two CubeSats. Hera includes a Spacecraft Monitoring Camera (SMC) for situational awareness during critical operations such as CubeSat deployments. Although not a science instrument, the SMC may also provide scientifically useful and outreach imagery. Integration was ch…

Task-aware conformal power envelopes for multi-horizon spacecraft monitoring ↗
Reliable spacecraft power monitoring requires uncertainty estimates across forecast horizons and consistency between primitive electrical states and derived power. We present a task-aware conformal framework that selects joint residual geometry according to downstream power-envelope efficiency. A residual iTransformer produced point centres for five primitive electrical states at 1, 5, and 15 min. Candidate geometries were fitted, selected, and calibrated on chronologically separated complete-orbit blocks, and the final evaluation comprised 25,278 forecast origins from the chronologically subs…

Navigation Service Performance Assessment for Cislunar Transfer Spacecraft Using BDS-3 and DRO/NRHO-Augmented Constellations ↗
This study assesses the navigation-service availability and observation geometry of a layered cislunar architecture using the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System Phase III (BDS-3) as the Earth-side primary source and distant retrograde orbit (DRO) and near-rectilinear halo orbit (NRHO) nodes as lunar-side augmentation sources. The assessment distinguishes geometrically visible links, beam-accessible links, receiver-detectable signals, and usable navigation observations. Four configurations—BDS-3, BDS-3+DRO, BDS-3+NRHO, and BDS-3+DRO+NRHO—are compared along a representative transfer trajectory a…

NASA to Cover Northrop Grumman CRS-24 Spacecraft Departure ↗
Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus XL cargo spacecraft rests at its capture point on April 13, 2026, 12 meters from the International Space Station, as the Canadarm2 robotic arm prepares to grapple the resupply ship. Credit: NASA/Jessica Meir After delivering more than 11,000 pounds of supplies, science experiments, and other cargo to the International Space Station for NASA, Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus XL spacecraft is scheduled to depart Friday, Oct. 9, as part of the company’s Commercial Resupply Services-24 mission, or Northrop Grumman CRS-24. Rapid Sequence Cost Evaluation for Multi-Spacecraft Rendezvous: A Permutation-Invariant Set Transformer ↗
Multi-spacecraft multi-rendezvous mission design requires repeated evaluations of the total cost of visiting a target set within a given time window, and the efficiency of this evaluation is the primary barrier to global search. Existing methods either optimize the order and epochs of each candidate sequence, which is expensive, or estimate the cost leg by leg, in which case the error accumulates with the sequence length. This paper proposes a deep model that regresses the total cost of an unordered target set directly: the pairwise transfer cost surface of each target pair is compressed into…

How to assess evidence about Spacecraft
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
