THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Satellites
This space thread follows satellites through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗39 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Recent sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Show HN: Netsat, a shared internet virtual satellite you can use to learn DSP ↗
Receiving and decoding satellites is (in my opinion) one of the coolest things you can do with a radio. The problem is that it has a steep learning curve. Protocols are complicated, signals are hard to catch and track, and requires an investment in equipment just to get started. Netsat is an internet stream that simulates the experience of receiving a satellite signal with an SDR. I simplified the physics quite a bit to make it easier to get star…

Physical characterization of Earth's quasi-satellite 2025 PN7 ↗
A hypothetical origin as lunar ejecta for Earth's quasi-satellites (QS) has gained initial support in recent years, but there is scarce photometric and/or spectroscopic data to support the premise due to the rare observational windows to obtain such data for these small objects. One of the key pieces of evidence supporting the lunar-origin hypothesis, the lunar-like, very red reflectance spectrum of QS (469219) Kamo'oalewa, was recently found to be flawed. We present reflectance spectroscopy of Earth's QS 2025~PN$_7$ obtained with FORS2 at UT1-Antu of the ESO Very Large Telescope. This is only…

Validation of Satellite-Derived and Reanalysis Solar Irradiance Databases Across Indonesia’s Tropical Climate Zones ↗
Accurate solar irradiance data are essential for photovoltaic (PV) resource assessment in Indonesia, yet no hourly-resolution multi-database validation exists across the archipelago scale. This study evaluates four gridded solar irradiance databases, CAMS, JAXA Himawari-9, NASA POWER, and ERA5, against quality-controlled ground measurements from 26 BMKG stations spanning all three major Köppen climate zones (Af, Am, Aw) during 2023–2024. CAMS achieved the highest hourly correspondence (median R2 = 0.855, rRMSE = 28.1%), and JAXA was close behind (R2 = 0.848), while NASA POWER showed the lowest…

Mapping Fuel Categories in Mediterranean Regions with Sentinel-2 and PlanetScope Satellite Acquisitions ↗
Accurate and spatially explicit mapping of forest fuel types is essential for developing integrated wildfire risk management strategies, estimating fire danger, and modeling fire propagation in fire-prone Mediterranean ecosystems. While time series of Copernicus Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery at 10 m spatial resolution have proven effective for regional fuel mapping, severe spectral and spatial ambiguities persist in distinguishing complex canopy structures, heterogeneous shrublands, and pastures. This study explores the synergistic integration of Sentinel-2 time series and high-resolution P…

Satellite based multi-scale remote sensing system for infrastructure stability monitoring around an urban metro ↗
Ground settlement around urban metro systems can result from coupled interactions among wide-area surface displacement, local surface geometry, shallow subsurface conditions, and underground structural deformation. However, a single monitoring technique is insufficient to screen settlement-prone sections along long metro corridors and to interpret the associated surface and underground conditions at the selected site. This study proposes a multi-scale remote sensing system (MSRS) integrating InSAR, laser scanning, GPR, and BOTDR-based distributed fiber optic sensing for infrastructure stabilit…

Star-ov: satellite-oriented trusted authorization and responsibility with stratified model encryption and ownership verifications ↗
Abstract With the increasing adoption of deep neural networks (DNNs) in remote sensing interpretation and on-orbit intelligent processing, protecting the intellectual property of deployed models faces new challenges, including limited onboard computational resources, constrained satellite–ground communication bandwidth, differentiated multi-user services, and difficulty in ownership attribution after model leakage. Existing model protection approaches mainly rely on either active encryption or passive watermarking mechanisms, which are insufficient to simultaneously satisfy the requirements of…

How to assess evidence about Satellites
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
