Earlier sources: Space

Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

547 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

The Fast Transient Foreground Fog of LSST ↗

Studies with 1-m class telescopes have now established that glints from satellites and space debris are the main obstacles to searches for sub-minute optical transients. Here, we report a study of this foreground using observations from the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) with the Simonyi 8.4-m telescope at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. From 2,955 pairs of consecutive 30-s exposures, spanning 4,755 deg$^2$ of unique sky area and an area-time coverage of 472 deg$^2$ hr, we identified a population of faint, PSF-like, sub-minute events, including isolated events with no linear sequences o…

Constrained Diffusion for Data-Scarce Orbital Monte Carlo in Constellation Tasking ↗

Constellation Monte Carlo results depend on the orbital population used to evaluate a tasking policy. With scarce reference trajectories, replay limits geometric diversity, while independent orbital-element jitter can violate physical constraints. We study constrained diffusion for orbital-population augmentation. A force-conditioned diffusion model learns a 13-dimensional orbital prior, recovering semimajor axis from perigee altitude and eccentricity; Basilisk propagates each sample under one of five force-model tiers. Using 800 reference trajectories, we compare diffusion with jittered boots…

F-MNet: flux-modulated network for radial power prediction of space reactors ↗

Rapid and accurate prediction of radial power distribution is crucial for the design and operation of space nuclear reactors. However, traditional Monte Carlo methods incur prohibitively high computational costs, while conventional data-driven surrogate models face severe overfitting and insufficient generalization capabilities under small-sample and data distribution shift conditions. Addressing the problem of radial power prediction for rod-controlled space reactors, this paper proposes F-MNet (Flux-Modulated Network), a physics-informed neural network architecture. F-MNet employs the Featur…

Demonstration of subspace-search variational quantum eigensolver using photonic orbital angular momentum qudits ↗

Abstract Accurate excited-state energies are essential for interpreting fluorescence and photochemical processes, yet variational quantum eigensolvers (VQEs) on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) hardware have largely been confined to ground states. Subspace-search VQE (SSVQE) offers a NISQ-friendly route to excited states without ancilla-based overlap measurements, however it has lacked an experimental demonstration since it requires the coherent preparation and manipulation of multiple orthogonal basis states under a shared variational unitary. Here we realize SSVQE on a photonic platfo…

Bio-inspired exploration of butterfly wing morphology guides deep reinforcement learning optimization of robotic flight ↗

How wing morphology shapes flight performance is a central question in functional biology and bio-inspired robotics, yet these relationships are difficult to isolate in living organisms. Here, we use a robotic butterfly with tunable wing geometry to systematically characterize morphology–performance relationships by combining motion capture with morphometric analysis. We then use deep reinforcement learning to search the morphological design space and identify wing designs optimized for aerodynamic performance. The resulting designs increase lift and thrust performance by 339% and 46%, respect…

Two-Stage Framework for Deployment-Aware Optimization of Satellite Constellation Pattern Design ↗

Abstract This paper proposes a constellation pattern design optimization framework that considers satellite deployments. The proposed framework embeds the feasibility and practicality of multi-satellite deployment into the design space by including finite dwell time availability, J 2 -driven right ascension of the ascending node (RAAN) drift for orbital plane distribution, and the required completion time window. The resulting design problem is solved via a two-stage optimization procedure, yielding a Pareto front that represents the trade-off between cost and completion time. Stage 1 selects…

FPGA-Based Neural Network Accelerators for Space Missions: A Survey ↗

Space missions are growing ever more ambitious, placing greater demands on onboard computing. Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have garnered interest due to their reconfigurability and cost-effectiveness. At the same time, neural network (NN)-based methods are proving invaluable for critical spacecraft tasks such as autonomous operations, remote sensing, selective downlink, and data compression. This survey reviews and classifies the state of the art in FPGA-based NN accelerators for space missions. We examine current trends, highlight key challenges, and suggest directions for future re…

    Space-charge-region reconstructed flower-like ZnIn2S4/layered NiCo-LDH interface: Type-II heterojunction for noble-metal-free visible-light H2 evolution ↗

ZnIn 2 S 4 (ZIS) shows great promise for photocatalytic hydrogen production. however, its performance is severely constrained by rapid charge recombination. To address this issue, we constructed a ZIS/NiCo-LDH heterojunction featuring intimate interfacial coupling and favorable band alignment. This composite achieves a photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of 6337.6 μmol g −1 h −1 and maintains stable activity with negligible decay over ten consecutive cycles. Band structure analysis reveals that upon contact between NiCo-LDH and ZIS, the space-charge region is reconstructed at the interface,…

Interfacial Polarization and Charge Transfer in Al13 Superatom–Organic Interfaces: Role of Frontier Orbital Overlap ↗

Abstract Superatoms (SAs) have emerged as atomically precise building blocks for functional materials; however, their interfacial electronic interactions with organic substrates remain poorly understood, particularly in the absence of ligand protection. While most reported SAs are stabilized by ligands, ligand-free SAs provide a unique platform to probe intrinsic interfacial behavior. In particular, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) core-level shifts at SA-organic interfaces are interpreted as signatures of charge transfer, although the contributions of interfacial polarization remain unc…

How to assess evidence about Space

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
