Earlier sources: Satellites
This space thread follows satellites through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗41 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Two-Stage Framework for Deployment-Aware Optimization of Satellite Constellation Pattern Design ↗
Abstract This paper proposes a constellation pattern design optimization framework that considers satellite deployments. The proposed framework embeds the feasibility and practicality of multi-satellite deployment into the design space by including finite dwell time availability, J 2 -driven right ascension of the ascending node (RAAN) drift for orbital plane distribution, and the required completion time window. The resulting design problem is solved via a two-stage optimization procedure, yielding a Pareto front that represents the trade-off between cost and completion time. Stage 1 selects…

Satellite observations of nitrous oxide emissions from adipic acid production ↗
The production of adipic acid generates nitrous oxide as a by-product, which, if emitted, very effectively warms the climate and depletes the stratospheric ozone layer. There exists cost-effective technology to mitigate these nitrous oxide emissions from adipic acid production, but the degree of implementation of this technology, most notably at sites in China, is uncertain. Using satellite observations from summer 2026, we quantify nitrous oxide emissions from three adipic acid production sites in China, finding emissions that total over half a million tonnes per year, a rate that implies lim…

Protocol for Cas9 nickase-mediated induction and two-dimensional gel detection of i-loops at human telomeric and alpha satellite repeats ↗
Single-stranded DNA breaks (SSBs) at repetitive elements promote internal loops (i-loops), precursors of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA). Here, we present a protocol for inducing targeted breaks at human telomeric or alpha-satellite repeats using doxycycline-inducible Cas9 nickase variants and repeat-specific sgRNAs. We describe steps for verifying strand-specific nicking by alkaline-gel Southern blotting and detecting i-loop accumulation by two-dimensional agarose gel electrophoresis (2D gel). In this protocol, DNase I treatment of isolated nuclei is employed as a Cas9-independent cont…

Direct Determination of a Non-Cooperative LEO Satellite’s Orbital State from Ground-Station Signals: A Cramér–Rao Analysis ↗
This paper considers passive determination of the orbital state of a non-cooperative low-Earth-orbit satellite from radio signals received at several ground stations. Reversing the roles of direct geolocation in which a satellite with known ephemeris locates a ground emitter, the satellite’s six-dimensional epoch state is estimated in a single step from the received data. Because the trajectory is a deterministic function of this state, every candidate is a valid orbit. The Cramér–Rao bound is derived; it factors into signal, geometry and orbital-dynamics terms, and a closed-form Keplerian sta…

Household selection in the absence of a sampling frame in community-based surveys – comparing satellite image-based approaches for a survey on snakebite envenoming in rural Malawi ↗
Abstract Background Household-level survey data are essential for assessing population health, but creating sampling frames remains challenging in rural areas without administrative data. In preparation for a large community-based snakebite survey, we compared satellite-based methods for generating household sampling frames in such settings. Methods In June 2023, we selected and classified six areas in Neno and Mwanza districts, Malawi, to create sampling frames using three approaches: manual building identification from satellite images, building extraction from OpenStreetMap and artificial i…

How to assess evidence about Satellites
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
