THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Satellites

This space thread follows satellites through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

41 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A two-stage restoration model for power distribution systems with integrated satellite-terrestrial communication networks ↗

With the development of the satellite internet, the low Earth orbit (LEO)-based satellite communication network (SCN) is gradually applied to power grids to meet the emergency communication requirements. By the advantages of SCN, this paper proposes a two-stage restoration framework for power distribution systems (PDSs) with an integrated satellite-terrestrial communication network (STCN). In Stage 1, a multi-time period operation simulation model for LEO satellite constellation is established to derive the available satellite communication links during restoration. Then, a MILP restoration mo…

Dual‐Timescale–Based Cache and Bandwidth Control Scheme in Integrated Satellite‐Terrestrial Networks ↗

ABSTRACT Recently, the integrated satellite‐terrestrial network (ISTN) system offers a promising solution for extending wireless communication services to remote and underserved areas. To effectively provide a variety of services, it is essential to cache the corresponding services on satellites while dynamically allocating the satellite bandwidth. However, challenges arise due to dynamic ISTN service requests that vary over time and space, as well as limited cache and bandwidth resource capacities on satellites. In this paper, the caching placement and bandwidth allocation algorithms are inve…

Multiscale feature fusion based CNN with feature ranking for satellite image classification ↗

Satellite image classification plays an important role in various applications like monitoring, surveillance, land cover planning, etc. Deep learning models with many learnable parameters face overfitting as model depth increases and have struggled to extract both fine details and broader patterns simultaneously. To overcome the aforementioned issues, an efficient CNN model of <0.23 million parameters is proposed, utilising the extraction of multiscale features across different CNN branches. After concatenating the two branches, a global average pooling (GAP) layer is added to mitigate overfit…

Beyond Idealized Orbits: Realistic Network Topology and Spatio-Temporal Traffic Emulation for LEO Satellite Constellations ↗

Large low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations are revolutionizing network access globally by delivering potential high-capacity, low-latency communication, fueling innovation and accelerating research in advanced space-based non-terrestrial network architectures. Consequently, a research testbed that allows flexibility in designing realistic network routing schemes, traffic load balancing and inter-shell communication methods to emulate real-world multi-shell network becomes an important tool for industry developers and academic researchers. This study broadens the scope of the SpaceNet…

Port-Agent: Structured Multimodal Reasoning for Port Disruption Analysis Using AIS, Satellite Imagery, and News ↗

Textual accounts establish essential context for port disruptions but can bias large language model synthesis before independent observations are examined. We present Port Agent, a remote-sensing agent that aligns Automatic Identification System (AIS) trajectories, Sentinel-2 vessel detections, and documents while retaining acquisition time, footprint, processing, and uncertainty. The evaluation follows the evidence chain from physical observation to agent synthesis across 12 views of 11 U.S. event-or-control groups, 24 quality-screened scenes, and 145,570,911 AIS positions. AIS first resolved…

Hour-scale response of low-Earth-orbit satellite altitude to extreme geomagnetic storms revealed by the NinjaSat CubeSat during the 2024 solar maximum ↗

Abstract Extreme geomagnetic storms accelerate low-Earth-orbit satellite decay by inflating the thermosphere, yet the hour-scale pathway from solar-wind energy to atmospheric heating is poorly understood. Using the GNSS receiver of the NinjaSat CubeSat ( $$\sim 500$$ km, $$97^\circ $$ sun-synchronous), we tracked orbital altitude through solar-maximum 2024 and cross-correlated the storm-time altitude-change rate with geomagnetic indices during the two largest storms of the year. The EUV-corrected residual correlates with the polar-cap (PC) index at $$r\gtrsim 0.8$$ , PC leading or coincident w…

How to assess evidence about Satellites

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
