Earlier sources: Space

Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

537 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A Misaligned Debris Disk relative to the Host Star CPD-72 2713 from JWST/NIRCam Imaging ↗

Observations of debris disks provide a valuable window to investigate the formation and evolution of planetary systems. We present high-contrast JWST/NIRCam observations of CPD-72 2713, a 24 Myr-old star that belongs to the $β$ Pic moving group. We obtained the first scattered-light images of the disk in both F210M and F444W filters, revealing a nearly face-on orientation. Forward modeling yields disk radii of $\rm 55.4^{+3.0}_{-3.2}\,AU$ (F210M) and $\rm 39.1^{+4.6}_ {-2.6}\,AU$ (F444W), both significantly smaller than the thermal emission radii measured with ALMA and Herschel/PACS. This disc…

Transient PULSE: Code for the Transient Propagation of UltraLight (pseudo)Scalars to Earth ↗

We present Transient PULSE, a software package that numerically implements a previously developed source-to-detector framework for transient ultralight bosonic signals from astrophysical bursts. Predicting these signals relies on connecting the source emission spectrum to its evolution during propagation and the resulting observables at a terrestrial detector. The package discretizes a user supplied energy spectrum into momentum modes, propagates them through a specified matter density profile and constructs the time-frequency energy density distribution at Earth, accounting for dispersion and…

International Astrophysical Consortium for High-energy Calibration: Summary of the 18th IACHEC Workshop ↗

In this report we summarize the activities of the International Astronomical Consortium for High Energy Calibration (IACHEC) from the 18th IACHEC Workshop at Pelham, Germany. Fifty-six scientists directly involved in the calibration of operational and future high-energy missions gathered during four days to discuss the status of the cross-calibration between the current international complement of X-ray observatories, and the possibilities to improve it. This summary consists of reports from the Working Groups with topics ranging across: the identification and characterization of standard cali…

Any Time, Any Space: A World-State-Centric Framework for Agentic Video Generation ↗

Long-form agentic video generation must turn a screenplay into shots that remain spatially and temporally consistent across nonconsecutive requests. Passing prompts or recent frames between shots does not provide a shared spatial frame for revisiting a scene or a time-indexed record for replaying an earlier event. We present Any Time, Any Space (ATAS), which compiles a screenplay into shot requests with explicit location, camera, and event-time references. Before generation, it retrieves relevant evidence from a scene memory of registered static geometry and an event memory of dynamic observat…

A$^3$PreCore: Robust Rigid Registration for Native FLAIR-Space Brain-Mask Transfer ↗

Reliable brain-mask transfer into native fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) space can fail when T1-to-FLAIR rigid registration is unstable. We developed A$^3$PreCore, a six-degree-of-freedom rigid-registration strategy that aligns the full bias-corrected T1-weighted image to native FLAIR using normalized mutual information while preserving the established T1-space anatomical mask. We also introduced extended quantitative quality control (E-QC), which characterizes mask extent, field-of-view-relative position, FLAIR intensity support, boundary support, inferior morphology, and pairwise…

Binary-lens amplification of starlight: from magnification flares to quasi-periodic tracking of orbital evolution ↗

Supermassive black hole binaries (SMBHB) are expected at the center of galaxies as a result of galaxy mergers. The dynamics and evolution of SMBHBs shed light on the evolution and formation of galaxies, the gravitational wave background and the nature of gravity. Many methods have been proposed to identify sub-parsec SMBHBs via the detection of gravitational waves or the modulation of the emission from the surrounding gaseous environment. In a previous study, we proposed a new method of identifying SMBHBs in non-active galactic nuclei via gravitational lensing. The caustics, i.e. the source po…

Refurbishment and Cryocooler Upgrade of the CPAPIR Wide-Field Near-Infrared Camera: Design, Integration, and Lessons Learned ↗

The CAmera PAnoramique Proche Infrarouge (CPAPIR) is a wide-field near-infrared imager that has been operating at the Observatoire du Mont-Mégantic (OMM) since 2004. After more than two decades of service, the instrument required a major refurbishment due to detector degradation, including the loss of one quadrant, as well as operational constraints associated with its liquid-nitrogen cooling system. To extend the instrument's lifetime and reduce maintenance requirements, the detector was replaced and the cooling system upgraded through the integration of a Sunpower CryoTel DS30 cryocooler. Th…

Revealing the Spatial Distribution of Dust and Plasma Solitary Waves in Jupiter's Innermost Magnetosphere Using Juno Waves Observations ↗

Jupiter's faint ring system contains micron- and submicron-sized dust whose dynamics are influenced by the planet's rapidly rotating magnetic field. Optical observations have established the morphology of the main ring and halo, but tenuous dust close to Jupiter remains difficult to characterize. We analyze nearly a decade of in-situ Juno Waves electric-field measurements using a two-stage convolutional neural network to identify and classify dust impacts, solitary waves, and other plasma waves. These in-situ dust-impact detections reveal a radially evolving structure extending well inside the…

Can bosenovae deplete the galactic dark matter? ↗

No: neither through the bosenovae of gravitational atoms formed around stars and compact objects, nor through those of boson stars formed in the galactic dark-matter halo. We assume that all the dark matter consists of ultralight bosons with attractive self-interactions, which can be captured in the gravitational potential of astrophysical objects or condense into self-gravitating configurations. When these systems collapse in a bosenova, part of their mass is turned into relativistic radiation that escapes the galaxy. We bound the mass that a single object can eject and sum it over realistic…

A Step-Like Transition Underlying the Life and Death of Galaxies ↗

How galaxies stop forming stars is a complex and central problem in astrophysics. Numerous physical mechanisms have been proposed, yet a simple, unified framework connecting these mechanisms remains lacking. Here, we derive a step-function quenching response from the fundamental principle of gas mass conservation, governed by the competition between gas-supply and gas-depletion timescales. This response also enables the gas-supply timescale to be inferred from the observed quenched fraction. Applying this method to approximately 350,000 galaxies, we find a characteristic gas-supply timescale o…

How to assess evidence about Space

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
