Earlier sources: Space

Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

547 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Deep Learning for Cherenkov Astronomy: Performance of GammaLearn on LST-1 ↗

The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) marks the next generation of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs), offering a sensitivity improvement of up to a factor of 10 over current instruments. Its first prototype, the Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1), is already in operation at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma, Spain. Deep learning methods have shown significant promise in reconstructing key properties of incident particles, such as energy, arrival direction, and type, using simulated data. Unlike traditional approaches that rely on simplified image shape par…

ROSE (Red-giant Oscillations Spectra Estimator): A Modular Machine-Learning Framework for Automated Asteroseismic Characterisation. I. $ν_{\max}$ and $Δν$ from TESS ↗

Space-based photometry from Kepler and TESS has delivered oscillation spectra for hundreds of thousands of red giants, and PLATO and the Roman Galactic Bulge Time-Domain Survey will add more. We present ROSE, a modular machine-learning framework for automated asteroseismic characterisation of red giants, and apply two of its modules to the frequency of maximum oscillation power, $ν_{\rm max}$, and the large frequency separation, $Δν$. Each module is a neural network bundled with its own preprocessing transform and output binning, so that each parameter is measured in the representation that di…

    Two Low-Mass-Ratio Microlensing Planets from High-Magnification Events: KMT-2021-BLG-0247 and MOA-2023-BLG-169 ↗

We present an analysis of two planetary microlensing events, KMT-2021-BLG-0247 and MOA-2023-BLG-169, both of which exhibit high magnifications and low planet--host mass ratios, but with markedly different levels of parameter constraint. For KMT-2021-BLG-0247, the finite-source effect and microlens parallax are both clearly detected, leading to unusually tight constraints on the physical properties of the lens system. The host mass and lens distance are approximately $M_{\rm L}=0.9\pm0.1\,M_\odot$ and $D_{\rm L}=6.7^{+1.0}_{-0.3}\,\mathrm{kpc}$, respectively, and the planet mass is $M_{\rm p}=4…

Artemis II Crew Moon Photo Annotations ↗

NASA A visualization of a dark Moon eclipsing the Sun is marked with handwritten notes in this April 6, 2026, screenshot from an Artemis II crew member’s tablet. NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman (in blue) and Victor “Ike” Glover (in green) and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) Jeremy Hansen (in red) observed impact flashes and their locations, which are noted on the image. Overall, the astronauts reported seeing five extremely faint “pinprick” bursts of light from their view aboard Orion, which was 46,000 miles away from the Moon at the time. These flashes are sparked by rocky fragments hitting the Moon…

IMFIT-MW: Multiwavelength photometric decomposition with IMFIT ↗

Photometric decomposition is often used to study galaxy structure by modelling surface brightness distribution in its components. However, most of the relevant codes are designed for single-band analysis. I present IMFIT-MW: a lightweight, open source Python tool that extends IMFIT capabilities to simultaneously model multiwavelength images. IMFIT-MW is able to set shared parameters between filters and to impose smooth variation of them with wavelength. IMFIT-MW achieves this by using IMFIT to produce model brightness distributions for given parameters, whereas hyperparameters defining their w…

Angular Baryon Acoustic Oscillations with DESI DR1 ↗

We present the angular BAO analysis using DESI DR1 data as a complementary approach to DESI's primary 3D BAO analysis. We perform the analysis using the two-point angular correlation function $w(θ)$ in tomographic redshift shells of $δz = 0.02, 0.05$, spanning the redshift range $0.4 < z < 2.1$ using the DESI tracers: LRG1, LRG2, LRG3+ELG1, ELG2 and QSO. The main benefit is that it requires no fiducial cosmology to convert redshifts into distances and yields a direct measurement of the transverse dilation parameter $α_{\perp}(z)$. We fit each tracer with a single shared $α_{\perp}(z)$ using te…

Effective Neutrino Mass and Apparent Phantom Crossing ↗

Recent cosmological constraints on the sum of neutrino masses have reached, and in some analyses fallen below, the minimum value implied by the normal mass ordering, suggesting a possible tension with neutrino-oscillation measurements. We investigate whether this discrepancy can be alleviated in a mass-varying-neutrino (MaVaN) cosmology in which a canonical pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) drives late-time cosmic acceleration and controls the masses of massive neutrinos through an exponential coupling. Using current cosmic microwave background, baryon acoustic oscillation, and type Ia super…

A Recurrent Infrared Modulation in the Warm Post-impact Debris Disk NGC 2547 ID8 ↗

Extreme debris disks are signposts of violent rocky collisions, but it remains unclear whether their mid-infrared variability traces transient dust clouds or longer-lived post-impact reservoirs. We analyze a 19 yr mid-infrared record of the young solar analog NGC 2547 ID8, combining four spectra from 2007-2024 with 3-5 micron monitoring through 2026. The optically thin mineral surface remains compositionally stable: broad fits spanning multiple grain sizes give 550-577 K, and a common-basis decomposition with T_surf fixed at 560 K is dominated by 1 micron olivine/Mg-olivine and 0.1 micron fors…

Phenomenology of axion-meson mixing and scattering processes ↗

We study the mixing between a generic axion-like particle (ALP) and the light pseudoscalar mesons within chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT), and its consequences for low-energy scattering and decay processes. Starting from the most general ALP effective Lagrangian, we derive the ALP-meson kinetic and mass mixing induced at leading order in the ALP decay constant and isospin breaking for arbitrary ALP masses. As a result, we obtain the physical ALP mass to $\mathcal{O}(F^2/f_a^2)$, recovering the QCD-axion limit and finding that any ALP with a vanishing bare mass shares the QCD-axion mass. We p…

How to assess evidence about Space

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
