THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Space
Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗532 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Continuous Active Correction of Deployable Space Telescopes Using Machine Learning ↗
Achieving high-resolution imaging for a deployable space telescope requires segments co-phased to nanometer precision. Typical alignment uses point sources (distant stars) or extended ground scenes. An on-board active correction system has been developed to provide continuous alignment by using a fibre source instead. IMPACT (Image-based Mirror Phasing and Alignment using Convolutional neTworks) measures point spread functions (PSFs) on a secondary mirror detector separated from the main science camera. By applying a deep machine learning algorithm, piston and tip/tilt aberrations can be retri…

A two-stage restoration model for power distribution systems with integrated satellite-terrestrial communication networks ↗
With the development of the satellite internet, the low Earth orbit (LEO)-based satellite communication network (SCN) is gradually applied to power grids to meet the emergency communication requirements. By the advantages of SCN, this paper proposes a two-stage restoration framework for power distribution systems (PDSs) with an integrated satellite-terrestrial communication network (STCN). In Stage 1, a multi-time period operation simulation model for LEO satellite constellation is established to derive the available satellite communication links during restoration. Then, a MILP restoration mo…

Mapping the Gaps in NASA’s Return to the Moon, featuring Richard Spolzino ↗
“I want to be able to look at a rocket launch and say, ‘I touched a piece of this.’” That’s how Richard Spolzino describes the thing he’s chasing. Not a title, not a specific mission, not even NASA itself, just the ability to point at something real and know his work made it possible. At NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, Spolzino works within Moon Base’s mission architecture and systems interoperability effort, helping identify what NASA still doesn’t know about the Moon and Mars, and making sure that missing information gets found before it becomes a problem. Aerospace engi…

What Caused the Orbital Decay of the Twin Van Allen Probes to Diverge? ↗
The Van Allen Probes were launched into nearly identical orbits and experienced the same solar and geomagnetic environment, yet their post-mission lifetimes diverged dramatically. Probe A underwent rapidly accelerating orbital decay and reentered the atmosphere in March 2026, while Probe B remains in orbit. We investigate the cause of this divergence using reconstructed orbital trajectories, modeled thermospheric densities, and measures of low-altitude residence and atmospheric drag. We find that small differences in orbital evolution progressively increased Probe A residence time in the lower…

Astronomia Ova: Kepler's Laws, Ptolemy's Equant, and Legendre's Polynomials ↗
Motivated by Kepler's long battle with the orbit of Mars, we present a family of orbits that satisfy his second law, conserving angular momentum around a central mass, and also fulfill Ptolemy's belief in an equant --- a point around which the angular speed is constant. For specific values of the angular momentum, these orbits can be written in terms of Legendre polynomials and functions of the second kind. They are analytic except at perihelion where they are twice differentiable. They resemble the "ovoid" (egg-shaped) or "metopoid" (face-shaped) orbits that Kepler considered on his way to th…

How to assess evidence about Space
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
