Earlier sources: Space

Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

519 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

NASA Adds New Science Investigations for Moon Base ↗

Artist’s rendering depicting astronauts, habitats, rovers, power systems, and cargo operations supporting sustained human activities at the Moon Base near the lunar South Pole. Credit: NASA Editor’s note: This release was updated on Sept. 30, 2026, to correct the name of the DISCO payload. NASA selected three new scientific investigations and their payload suites to advance our knowledge of the Moon and help pave the way for building humanity’s first lunar outpost, Moon Base. The suite of science instruments and technologies was selected through NASA’s Payloads and Research Investigations on t…

NASA Awards Contract to Develop 5G Communications for Moon ↗

Credit: NASA NASA has awarded Modulate Space Corporation a contract to develop key elements of a 5G communications system for use on the lunar surface with built-in Wi-Fi 6, for NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. This accelerated effort is organized into two primary work areas that together will develop a scalable, standards-based communications capability designed to support future Moon Base surface operations. The 5G System and Lunar Surface Communications Evaluation and Radio Propagation Measurements contract is a firm-fixed-price contract with a value of approximately $38 million.…

How eccentric is the debris disk of epsilon Eridani? ALMA reveals a near-circular belt ↗

The nearby (3.2 pc) K2V star $ε$ Eridani hosts the closest detected debris disk and an exo-Jupiter analog ($ε$ Eridani b). In this work, we reanalyse ALMA Band 6 (1.29 mm) observations of $ε$ Eridani to assess whether its outer debris belt exhibits a non-zero eccentricity, potentially induced by planet-disk interactions. Considering two models, one that accounts for the disk's forced eccentricity ($e_\mathrm{f}$) and another that accounts for a proper eccentricity ($e_\mathrm{p}$), we place stringent (99.7th-percentile) upper limits of $e_\mathrm{f} < 2.6\%$ and $e_\mathrm{p} < 6.8\%$, respect…

Probing the Reionization History and Bubble Sizes with JWST Lyman-$α$ Fraction Measurements ↗

Recent James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) measurements quantify the fraction of ultraviolet-selected galaxies showing detectable Lyman-alpha (Ly-$α$) lines at $z \sim 6-14$. These Ly-$α$ fractions are partly shaped by Ly-$α$ scattering from neutral hydrogen in the surrounding intergalactic medium (IGM), and so the observed Ly-$α$ fraction evolution can inform our understanding of the reionization history and the size distribution of ionized bubbles during reionization. We compare the JWST measurements with Ly-$α$ transmission calculations based on both the THESAN reionization simulations and a…

Water enhances the formation of refractory sulfur in interstellar ices ↗

Sulfur is the tenth most abundant element in space, yet it is strongly depleted in the gas phase of dense interstellar regions, suggesting sequestration in dust grain components that are difficult to detect. We study whether UV irradiation and thermal processing of H2S-containing interstellar-ice analogues can produce refractory sulfur species, and whether water-dominated ice enhances their formation. We performed UV irradiation and warm-up experiments on H2S-containing ice analogues with and without water, and the resulting refractory residues were analysed ex situ. Refractory sulfur species,…

A Noise Operator Approach to Quantum Query Complexity and Time-Space Tradeoff Lower Bounds ↗

Time and space (memory) are two of the most important measures of cost in computation, even more so for quantum computation. In quantum computation our tools for proving unconditional tradeoffs between time and space are surprisingly limited. The first quantum time-space tradeoff lower bounds were proven for sorting by Klauck, Špalek and de Wolf. Unfortunately, their method is limited to proving output-oblivious lower bounds (i.e. the lower bounds only apply to algorithms with a non-adaptive output schedule) and other methods have yielded nothing beyond output-oblivious lower bounds for sortin…

How to assess evidence about Space

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
