Earlier sources: Space

Space research and engineering study the universe and build the systems used to reach and observe it. Follow astronomy, spacecraft, launch systems, satellites, exploration, and Earth observation.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

516 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Pricing IoT Data Delivered via LEO Satellites ↗

IoT terminals served by LEO satellite constellations transmit data to passing satellites in discrete uplink windows. That data is delivered to buyers only when the satellite reaches a ground station. This store-and-forward structure makes the achievable price a discontinuous function of the delivery completeness threshold (a phenomenon we call a pricing cliff) and creates a geographic pricing asymmetry between polar and equatorial terminals that depends on constellation size. We present an integrated pricing model combining a full SGP4 orbital simulation of the deployed Kinéis constellation wi…

Radiation Hydrodynamics of Self-gravitating Protoplanetary Disks II. Accretion, Migration, Spin, and Internal Structure of GI Fragments ↗

In the first paper of this series, we showed that gravitational instability (GI) in protoplanetary disks can produce fragments of planetary rather than brown-dwarf mass, leaving the subsequent evolution and ultimate fates of such fragments an open question. Here, we follow every bound object in a global three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamic simulation of a fragmenting $0.196\,M_\odot$ disk around a $1\,M_\odot$ star: seven surviving fragments, one disrupted clump, and one merged clump, followed for $1.2$\,kyr. The fragments form at $1.4$--$3.0\,M_\mathrm{J}$, consistent with the normalized…

Improved Constraints on the Surface of LHS 3844 b from its Mid-Infrared Spectrum ↗

The thermal emission spectra of terrestrial exoplanets provide a window into their surface compositions and corresponding geological processes. Close-in, rocky planets orbiting M dwarfs are ideal targets for these studies, as observations have shown that most have little to no atmosphere. LHS 3844 b is an ultra-short period super-Earth orbiting a nearby M dwarf, and is the most favorable target that does not have a dayside magma ocean. We present an updated JWST MIRI/LRS emission spectrum ($5-12$ $μ$m) of this planet, derived from eight new and three archival eclipse observations. We combine t…

Constraining exoplanet population parameters with Kepler and simulation-based inference ↗

In the context of the rapidly growing field of galactic exoplanet population studies, we present an exoplanet simulator capable of generating synthetic populations for millions of stars in a few seconds (Padois et al., 2025). Our framework combines observed exoplanet detections with the latest planetary formation models, incorporating dependencies between host star properties and planet occurrence rates, orbital period distributions, and other key demographic features. However, many model parameters remain uncertain and model-dependent. To constrain some of the most critical ones, we couple ou…

Detection of fine-structured radio bursts during a superflare on EQ Peg ↗

Superflares are frequently observed on magnetically active stars, particularly on active M-dwarfs, thereby influencing the habitability of nearby exoplanets. However, the causes of superflares remain unclear. Here, combining FAST and TESS, we detected a finely structured decimetric radio burst appearing as groups of spikes during a white-light superflare (total bolometric energy $\sim 10^{33} \ \mathrm{erg}$) on the M-dwarf binary EQ Peg on September 8th, 2022. The most significant ones appeared near the peak time of the optical flare and lasted for about $100 \ \mathrm{s}$. The radio spikes p…

A Full-Sky SPHEREx Map of Integrated 3.3 and 3.4 μm PAH Emission ↗

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous in the interstellar medium and are among its smallest carbonaceous grains. Their infrared emission bands trace this small-grain population together with the interstellar radiation field that excites it, and are widely used to diagnose photodissociation regions, dust processing and star formation. We present full-sky maps of the integrated radiance of the 3.3 $μ$m aromatic C-H stretch and the adjacent 3.4-3.5 $μ$m aliphatic complex, from SPHEREx QR2 Level-2 data. Existing all-sky PAH tracers are broadband, so the band emission can only be i…

An End-to-End Numerical Framework for Tidal Disruption Events with AthenaK ↗

In a tidal disruption event (TDE), a star is torn apart by the tidal field of a black hole (BH), and its bound debris returns over many orbits to form an accretion disk. We present a framework built on the GPU-accelerated finite-volume code AthenaK that follows these stages in a single simulation with self-gravity throughout. We extend AthenaK with a moving simulation frame, restart remapping between domains, a multigrid Poisson solver on the adaptive mesh, a tabulated hydrogen-helium equation of state including recombination, a dual-energy update for the cold supersonic debris stream, a movin…

    ALMA - CTAO synergies ↗

This article aims to raise awareness within the ESO astronomical community of the scientific opportunities offered by the upcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array, CTAO, highlighting cases where combining millimetre/submillimetre capabilities of the Atacama Large Millimeter / submillimeter Array, ALMA with the CTAO's very high energy, TeV, observations enables new avenues for discovery. Many astrophysical sources and environments exhibit emission processes detectable in both regimes; however, the synergies extend beyond shared emission mechanisms and include broader physical processes and observatio…

How to assess evidence about Space

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
