Earlier sources: Astronomy
This space thread follows astronomy through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗241 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

The 200-300 GHz Survey for 18 Class II Disks in the Ophiuchus Star-Forming Complex ↗
We measured the 198-310 GHz flux densities of 18 Class II protoplanetary disks in the Ophiuchus star-forming complex using the Submillimeter Array (SMA). The $\sim$200-300 GHz spectral indices ($α_{200-300}$) of these disks are $2.3^{+0.2}_{-0.5}$. In this observed frequency range, emission properties of the Ophiuchus disks are very similar to the 48 spatially compact Class II disks in the Taurus-Auriga region observed in a previous SMA survey. Combining the Ophiuchus and Taurus-Auriga samples, the Pearson correlation coefficient between $α_{200-300}$ and the flux density at 250 GHz ($F_{250\,…

Evidence for inefficient dust production in a massive, metal-rich galaxy at z=7.13 uncovered by JWST and ALMA ↗
Recent observations have revealed a remarkably rapid buildup of cosmic dust in the interstellar medium (ISM) of high redshift galaxies, with complex dust compositions and large abundances already appearing at redshifts z > 6 . Here we present a comprehensive, joint analysis of observations taken with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA) of the highly magnified ( μ = 9.6 ), dusty normal galaxy, A1689-zD1 at z = 7.13 . We perform detailed spectro-photometric modeling of the rest-frame UV to far-infrared spectral energy distribution (SE…

Post-Training Quantization of Autoregressive Weather Models ↗
Advancements in high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) and data assimilation (DA) have shaped the developments in deep learning (DL) architectures emulating atmospheric dynamics. Emulators for weather forecasting exhibit forecast quality comparable to physics based models at forecast horizon scaling from few days to subseasonal time scales. The emulators are driven by hardware-accelerated matrix multiplication in autoregressive inferences, significantly reducing the computation time and resources required for NWP. Optimization of the matrix multiplication processes in GPU architect…

TOI-1408: the limb darkening models, photometric and Doppler noises, and the exoplanetary system ↗
We perform a self-consistent analysis of Doppler and photometric TESS and ground-based transit observations available for TOI-1408, known to host a system with two planets orbiting near 2:1 mean-motion commensurability and a distant companion. In general we confirm its orbital configuration derived in previous studies, however we found that the likelihood function contains multiple local maxima spread over a wider parametric domain, thus making some model uncertainties significantly larger than deemed before. In particular, the planet b radius still appears poorly constrained (from $\sim 1.2$~…

Strongly mixed cosmological collider at unequal sound speeds ↗
We derive the canonically normalized modes of a two-field inflationary system with arbitrary constant quadratic mixing and unequal sound speeds $c_\varphi$ and $c_σ$ for the curvature and isocurvature perturbations, respectively. A Laplace representation reduces the coupled dynamics to a second-order Heun equation and gives the exact late-time curvature power spectrum for arbitrary values of the mixing parameter and entropy mass. The sound-speed ratio $r_c=c_σ/c_\varphi$ controls the separation between the two sound horizons. At fixed nonzero mixing and $r_c\ll1$, the power exhibits power-law…

Non-Gaussian Parameter Bias: Formalism and Validation ↗
We present a framework for propagating systematic data mismatches into parameter biases and posterior deformations beyond the Gaussian Fisher approximation. Using the Derivative Approximation for Likelihoods (DALI), we derive analytic expressions for the maximum a posteriori (MAP) point and posterior mean, including a semi-analytic response expansion in systematic amplitude. We validate the framework against direct numerical calculations and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling in a controlled nonlinear two-parameter benchmark up to a covariance-weighted data-space mismatch of $d_{data}=5$…

A comprehensive simulation framework for multi-modal kilonova observations from all-sky surveys ↗
Current all-sky surveys such as Vera Rubin's Legacy Survey of Space and Time and the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) promise a wealth of scientific gains that are contained in the millions of astrophysical transient candidates produced each night. Kilonovae, one such transient of interest, will be challenging to identify in the alert stream and will require efficient artificial intelligence models to parse the large, real-time influx of data. In order to build these large models, comprehensive multimodal datasets are necessary for training. Due to a lack of numerous kilonova observations, we p…

Bayesian Image Reconstruction with Spatially Variant PSFs in X-ray Astronomy ↗
X-ray observatories introduce unwanted instrumental effects into photon count data that must be accurately accounted for. In particular, the spatially variant point spread function (PSF) and shot noise pose a non-trivial inverse problem. We apply Bayesian inference grounded in information field theory (IFT) combined with a fast spatially variant PSF representation to infer the posterior mean and uncertainty of the X-ray flux under a minimal set of physically motivated prior assumptions, thereby removing or reducing these instrumental effects. First, ignoring spatial PSF variability, the IFT-ba…

Spurious sources in high-resolution VLA surveys ↗
Blind extragalactic radio continuum surveys are increasingly conducted at sub-arcsecond angular resolutions. However, these surveys contain substantially more spurious sources than expected from purely Gaussian noise statistics. We investigate the origin of these false detections using the 10GHz GOODS-N mosaic obtained with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), which reaches a native angular resolution of 0.22arcsec and exhibits a nearly Gaussian pixel-noise distribution. We show that part of the increase in the spurious-source fraction at high angular resolution arises naturally from the…

Interpreting effective homogeneous rheologies through a local differential map with application to the Moon ↗
Layered viscoelastic interiors control the frequency dependence of planetary tidal dissipation, but repeated layered Love-number calculations are expensive in long-term orbital and spin integrations. Equivalent homogeneous rheologies provide a cheaper representation of the same response, but their effective parameters do not by themselves identify the interior layers they represent. We develop a local interpretation of such parameters by differentiating the layered-to-homogeneous construction about a fixed-geometry baseline, perturbing only selected layer rigidities and viscosities. We use the…

How to assess evidence about Astronomy
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
