Earlier sources: Astronomy
This space thread follows astronomy through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗270 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Raising the Optical Depth to Reionization with Dark Matter Decay ↗
DESI DR2 baryon acoustic oscillation measurements have sharpened a discrepancy with cosmic microwave background (CMB) inferences that can be recast as a preference for a reionization optical depth of $τ_{\rm reio}\simeq 0.09$, well above the $\simeq 0.06$ inferred from large-scale CMB polarization measurements. Here we test whether electromagnetic energy injection from dark matter (DM) decaying through $χ\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}$ can provide this additional optical depth. Adopting a Gompertzian model for astrophysical reionization, which provides an asymmetric, simulation-calibrated description…

The Cosmological Correlation Dimension Beyond the Linear Regime: Analytical Approximation and Parameter Sensitivity ↗
The correlation dimension ($D_2$) provides a scale-dependent characterization of the transition towards homogeneity and a complementary perspective on the clustering of large-scale structure. In this work, we study its full dependence on scales and redshift connecting $D_2$ directly to the matter power spectrum of a given cosmological model, and derive an approximate analytical relation based on an effective cut-off representation of the filtering kernel. We further perform two complementary local (derivative-based) and global (variance-based) sensitivity analyses within the $w_0w_a$CDM model.…

An improved standardization framework for Type II-P supernovae using a hierarchical Bayesian approach ↗
We use Type II-P supernovae (SNe II-P) observed as part of the Nearby Supernova Factory (SNfactory) experiment as standardizable candles to develop an improved standardization framework. The data consist of accurately flux-calibrated, host-subtracted spectrophotometry of low-redshift SNe II-P in the wavelength range $3200 < λ< 10000$ ${\unicode{xC5}}$. We develop an improved method to determine the expansion velocities of SNe II-P based on Gaussian Process regression. We extend the conventional standardized candle method (SCM) by an additional correction term containing the H$_α$ absorption-to…

Effects of a central dark matter core on time-delay cosmography with galaxy clusters ↗
The central dark matter distribution probes the nature of dark matter and baryon physics, yet its impact on time-delay cosmography is not fully explored. We update previous analyses of the cluster-lensed quasar SDSS J1004+4112 and the supernova Refsdal in MACS J1149.5+2223 by replacing the main halo density profile from an elliptical Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) profile to a cored elliptical NFW profile and investigating the impact of the central dark matter core on the Hubble constant $H_0$. We jointly infer $H_0$ and the dimensionless core size parameter $β=r_{\rm c}/r_{\rm s}$, while the Brigh…

Early Planet Formation in Embedded Disks (eDisk). XXV. Inclination-Induced Minor-Axis Brightness Asymmetries Reveal Limited Dust Settling in Embedded Protostellar Disks ↗
How and when dust settles in young protostellar disks is a key open question for the dust concentration needed to form planetesimals and, ultimately, planets. However, directly measuring the vertical dust distribution in embedded (Class 0/I) systems remains challenging. We show that brightness asymmetry along the minor axis of highly inclined disks provides a simple, powerful geometric diagnostic of vertical dust structure. Using radiative transfer modeling with RADMC-3D, we generate synthetic continuum images showing that the observed asymmetry arises naturally from disk inclination, optical…

A Missing Latent, Not a Missing Simulator: Radius-Augmented Inference for Real JWST Retrieval ↗
Amortized simulation-based inference (SBI), which is trained on radiative-transfer simulators, recovers exoplanet atmospheres accurately on synthetic James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) spectra but collapses when it comes to real reduced spectra. The flow posterior collapsed on real WASP-39b (importance-sampling effective sample size (ESS) = 1, best-fit \c{hi}2/N = 301), and such a failure is usually blamed on missing the forward-model physics, but ruling these levers out with nested sampling first (a temperature gradient, SO2 opacity, and a high-fidelity opacity set) leaves the fit unchanged, m…

Planetesimal Formation under Realistic Gas Dynamics: Dust Concentration in Turbulent and Windy Protoplanetary Disks ↗
Planetesimals are a key intermediate stage of planet formation and originate from dust concentration in protoplanetary disks, which is strongly regulated by gas dynamics. In this study, we use the multifluid dust module of Athena++ to investigate dust concentration in 2D axisymmetric global non-ideal MHD (ambipolar diffusion, AD) simulations of outer disks. Our simulations simultaneously launch large-scale MHD disk winds and resolve both streaming instability (SI) and vertical shear instability (VSI). We systematically explore the effects of magnetic field strength, cooling timescale, ambipola…

Inverse-Power-Law Scalar-Field Cosmology in (n+2) Dimensions: Slow-Roll Evolution and de Sitter-Like Asymptotics ↗
This study investigates a homogeneous canonical scalar field with an inverse-power-law potential in an (n+2)-dimensional spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker/Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson Walker (FRW/FLRW) spacetime. The approximately 5% baryonic-matter, 25% dark-matter, and 70% dark-energy fractions are used only as present-day observational motivation and are not imposed as fixed weights in the scalar-field dynamics. Using the metric signature (+,-,...,-), the scalar-field definition and the higher-dimensional Friedmann, acceleration, Klein-Gordon, and conservation equations are formulat…

A Probabilistic Trajectory and Dispersion Study of Martian Tumbleweed Rover Swarms in Global Dust Storm Conditions ↗
Global Dust Storms (GDSs) dominate the Martian climate, yet the mechanisms of dust lifting, transport, and deposition remain poorly constrained because in situ observations are limited: landers are stationary, and their Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTGs) contaminate local measurements. Our solution is a swarm of lightweight, wind-propelled spherical rovers -- Dust Rovers (DRs) -- that follow natural wind patterns to collect high-spatial-resolution in situ dust data during storms. Here, we quantify the dispersion and communication connectivity of this robotic architecture. Using 625…

How to assess evidence about Astronomy
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
