THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1271 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

AI Consilium: a Benchmark of LLM Clinical Multidisciplinary Second Opinions ↗

Large language models (LLMs) can generate differential diagnoses for complex cases, but a useful second opinion must also be factually grounded, clinically coherent, actionable, and safe. We developed a multidimensional benchmark using 300 diagnostically resolved NEJM--MedQA cases: 110 for physician reference ratings and Judge calibration and 190 for held-out evaluation. Eight single-model pipelines generated independent role-specific opinions and interactive-consilium reports under free-form and structured clinical-reasoning conditions. A physician-calibrated LLM Judge evaluated 3,040 final r…

Causal Fingerprints Reveal Hidden Mechanisms in Partially-Observed Dynamical Systems ↗

In partially-observed dynamical systems, distinct hidden mechanisms can produce similar observable summary statistics while explaining individual events differently. We introduce causal fingerprints: realization-dependent patterns that track how information about a hidden state is revealed through subsequent evolution. Within a prescribed dynamical model, we compare the filtering posterior, based on observations up to a given time, with the smoothing posterior, obtained after adding an expanding window of future observations. We quantify this retrospective information gain using Kullback-Leibl…

Adding Temperature to the Adiabatic Connection: Hybrid Functionals for Static and Dynamic Correlation ↗

Capturing static and dynamic electron correlation simultaneously at manageable computational cost remains a key challenge in electronic structure theory. Motivated by the recurring role of effective temperature in self-consistent field methods we extend the adiabatic connection mechanism from density functional theory to include a temperature dimension. This gives rise to thermally enhanced hybrid functionals, in which static correlation is captured via fractional occupations generated by an effective "correlation temperature" within thermal Hartree-Fock, while dynamic correlation is described…

SynDebug: A Framework to Debug Logic Bugs in Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing Programs ↗

Fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC) introduces substantial systems-level complexity through quantum error correction (QEC), making debugging FTQC programs challenging. Existing quantum debugging approaches primarily target logical-level circuits and do not naturally support debugging within realistic FTQC execution flows. We present SynDebug, the first systems-level debugging framework for FTQC programs. SynDebug introduces lightweight assertion-based debugging primitives that operate directly within encoded FTQC infrastructures while avoiding additional logical surface area and minimizing…

ALMA2040: Mapping the Spatially Resolved Dust and Star Formation Physics Driving High-z Galaxy Assembly ↗

Interstellar dust reprocesses approximately half of the starlight emitted across cosmic history. However, dust temperature, which is essential to convert continuum flux into dust mass, molecular gas mass, and obscured star-formation rates, remains largely unconstrained on sub-galactic scales at high redshift. While single-band ALMA imaging has characterized continuum sizes for hundreds of z>1 galaxies, single-frequency measurements cannot separate the dust mass column from the local dust heating. To date, spatially resolved ( 1, with ongoing programs within a few years adding at most a few doz…

Constrained dissipation and the lifetime of quantum many-body scars ↗

We investigate the fate of quantum many-body scars in the PXP model subject to Markovian dissipation. We show that when local jump operators respect the same symmetries of the Hamiltonian the full Liouvillian spectrum displays a tower of states with properties analogous to standard quantum scars: large overlaps with Néel states and equally spaced gaps in the imaginary part of the eigenvalues, set by a single frequency. Whether the long-time dynamics is dominated by scars is determined by the real parts of the eigenvalues, which are set by the ratio between the two relaxation rates $γ_{\pm}$ de…

Programmable all-to-all entangling gates for cavity-coupled atoms ↗

Fault tolerant quantum computers greatly benefit from having both high fidelity entangling gates and a non-local qubit connectivity. However, most entangling gates for neutral atoms are local, requiring separated atoms to be moved using optical tweezers to yield entanglement between them. Here, we design a high fidelity Mølmer Sørensen-like entangling gate between neutral atoms coupled to a photonic cavity, enabling a programmable all-to-all connectivity through the shared cavity coupling. The gate is both robust to changes in cavity photon number, and enables selective entanglement between an…

Efficient quantum simulation of unitary gates based on atomic ensembles ↗

We develop a technique to perform efficient unitary time evolution of a general spin Hamiltonian based on the system with identical qubits, as naturally realized by permutation symmetric atomic ensembles. We employ Cartan decomposition method to the associated Hamiltonian Lie algebra and construct the symmetry adapted generators to implement unitary operator of the ensemble Hamiltonian. This enables the compact circuit representations of the system dynamics in terms of experimentally accessible collective spin operations and exploits the Dicke basis structure of the ensembles as an effective q…

Classification of bipartite observables III: simplicity, mixtures and quantum error correction ↗

The paradigm of a simple unstable theory in the sense of Shelah is the theory of the random graph, the Fraïssé limit of the finite graphs. Quantum error correction has a paradigm of its own, and we show that it is the counterpart of the random graph: the Pauli group on countably many qubits, taken modulo phases and with commutation as its relation, is the Fraïssé limit of the finite alternating spaces over the two-element field, and its form computes the syndromes of stabilizer codes. Seen through this correspondence, simplicity theory turns out to be a theory of error correction. Clifford enc…

    Energetics of Fault-Tolerant Spin-Qubit Quantum Computation ↗

Semiconductor spin qubits offer a promising route to compact and scalable quantum computers, combining long coherence times in isotopically purified silicon with compatibility with semiconductor manufacturing. Beyond computational speedup, their energy efficiency is an important consideration for future large-scale systems. We evaluate the power and energy requirements of a Loss-DiVincenzo spin-qubit quantum computer by analyzing the Quantum Fourier Transform (QFT) and benchmarking it against the classical Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). We develop a detailed energy budget, identifying cryogenic…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
