Materials

This science thread follows materials through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

4 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Recent sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Metal Compound‐Based Non‐Enzymatic Electrochemical Cholesterol Sensors: Emerging Materials and Mechanistic Insights ↗

ABSTRACT Cholesterol plays a vital role in cellular function, yet abnormal cholesterol levels are strongly associated with cardiovascular disease, creating a need for accurate and rapid detection. Conventional enzymatic sensors, although sensitive, are limited by enzyme instability, high cost, and short operational lifetimes. This review highlights recent advances in metal compound‐based non‐enzymatic electrochemical cholesterol sensors, which offer improved stability, affordability, and potential suitability for point‐of‐care applications. We examine the electrocatalytic mechanisms and materi…

Rare-earth-free regenerator materials for enhanced 4-K cryocooler performance ↗

Abstract Cryogenic cooling, a vital technology in magnetic resonance imaging and quantum computing, depends on scarce helium and heavy rare-earth elements. The increasing demand for this technology highlights the urgent need for alternative materials to reduce this reliance. Although frustration-based delafossite CuFe 1– x Al x O 2 has recently been discovered to enable cryogenic-temperature refrigeration without rare-earth elements, its cooling capacity near 4 K remains inferior to that of the benchmark rare-earth material HoCu 2 . To address this limitation, this paper reports the design and…

Universal physics-informed machine learning framework for the prediction of porosity defects in high-power laser beam welding with different metallic materials ↗

High-power laser beam welding (LBW) is a widely used joining technique for metallic materials. However, porosity defects frequently arise during the process, leading to significant degradation of weld properties. Accurate prediction of porosity remains challenging due to the highly nonlinear and material-dependent underlying physics. In this study, a universal physics-informed machine learning framework is proposed to predict porosity levels in the LBW of aluminum and steel. Systematic LBW experiments were conducted to quantify porosity ratios across a broad parametric space. In parallel, a we…

Hygroscopic behaviour and colour stability of 3D-printed and thermoformed aligner materials: an in vitro study ↗

Abstract Background Directly 3D-printed aligner materials have recently emerged as an alternative to established thermoformed clear aligners. The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the colour stability, water sorption, and water solubility of directly 3D-printed aligner materials in comparison with an established thermoformed reference, as these properties are essential for clinical performance but currently insufficiently investigated for directly 3D-printed aligners. Methods Tera Harz TC-85DAC, Freeprint Aligner, Freeprint Aligner with digital polishing, Dental LT Clear V2 and one…

A simulator-based quantum framework for molecular dynamics and multiscale materials modeling ↗

Introduction: Quantum computing has the potential to transform scientific computing by providing efficient algorithms for solving large-scale numerical problems that arise in engineering and materials science. However, integrating quantum algorithms into multiscale mechanics remains largely unexplored due to the complexity of coupling atomistic and continuum models and the nonlinear nature of molecular dynamics. In this work, we develop a unified hybrid classical–quantum framework for molecular dynamics and multiscale materials modeling based on the Variational Quantum Linear Solver (VQLS). Ma…

Bounding Retraining Equivalence and the Deletion Floor in Materials Machine Unlearning ↗

In materials machine learning, closely related retained structures can sustain accurate property predictions even after removing a specific record, rendering post-deletion prediction error an ambiguous metric for machine unlearning. To resolve this ambiguity, we define the deletion floor as the expected target loss under a specified retraining procedure at the deleted request. Standard indistinguishability constraints yield a sharp interval bounding an update's target loss around this baseline reference. Theoretically, a conditional neighbor bound links a low deletion floor directly to retaine…

Carbon-based materials coupled with metal oxide semiconductors for hydrogen sensors: linking mechanisms and dimensions ↗

Reliable H 2 detection is essential for hydrogen energy systems, industrial processing, battery safety, and clinical monitoring. Chemiresistive sensors based on metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) are widely used because of their low fabrication cost and facile integration. However, they still suffer from high operating temperatures, limited selectivity, poor humidity tolerance, and insufficient long-term stability. Incorporating carbonaceous materials with large specific surface areas, high carrier mobility, and tunable surface chemistry provides an effective route to address these limitations. T…

Plasma-Based Atom-Selective Etching: Advancing Atomic-Scale Smooth Surface Manufacturing for Semiconductor Materials ↗

The development of human manufacturing technologies has entered the phase of atomic and close-to-atomic scale manufacturing (ACSM). The fabrication of semiconductor materials with atomic-scale smooth and damage-free surfaces is one of the core elements of ACSM and is pivotal to the rapid advancement of high-technology fields, such as integrated circuits and quantum computing. However, the simultaneous achievement of both high quality and high efficiency has consistently posed a substantial challenge for contemporary atomic-scale polishing processes. As a chemical-etching-based method, the nove…

How to assess evidence about Materials

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
