THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1278 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

The trade-off between fractal morphology and function of Drosophila neurons ↗
Studying correlation between structure and function in brain networks has long been a central and compelling topic in neuroscience. Using the FlyWire project's fully digitized Drosophila melanogaster brain map, we analyzed a total number of 125330 3D skeletons of neurons from various functional super-classes and classes. By separating axonal and dendritic arbors of individual neurons we compare several morphological and topological properties, including cable length, fractal dimension, number of nodes, maximum width, and tree height. The fractal dimensions of neurons can reach up to 2.4, with

Tobacco Carcinogen Induces Persistent DNA Damage and Homologous Recombination Dysregulation in Pancreatic Ductal Carcinogenesis ↗
Cigarette smoking is a well-established risk factor for the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), yet the mechanisms by which tobacco carcinogens, such as Nicotine-Derived Nitrosamine Ketone (NNK), drive pancreatic carcinogenesis remain incompletely understood. We investigated the impact of NNK on pancreatic epithelium by treating human pancreatic ductal epithelial cells (HPDE6-E6E7; H6c7) with NNK for 5 or 50 days followed by genome-wide RNA sequencing, qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence, comet assay, and γH2AX ELISA. We assessed γH2AX by immunohistochemistry in human PDAC tissue m

Convergent and Distinct Transcriptional Signatures in Suicide, Bipolar Disorder, and Major Depressive Disorder ↗
Globally, a person dies by suicide every 40 seconds, underscoring a major global public health concern. In the United States, suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-34 years. Suicide is a complex, multifactorial phenomenon influenced by genetic and epigenetic factors and is strongly associated with mood disorders, particularly major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). However, the extent to which their molecular signatures converge or diverge across disorders and brain regions remains incompletely understood. To address this gap, we conducted a

THE GENETIC LANDSCAPE OF HEREDITARY SPASTIC PARAPLEGIA IN CANADA ↗
Background: Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) comprises a heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive lower-extremity weakness and spasticity, with or without additional neurological symptoms. Objectives: To characterize the molecular genetic spectrum, inheritance patterns, molecular finding rate, and clinical characteristics of HSP within a multicenter Canadian cohort. Methods: We investigated 671 patients from 423 families who met clinical criteria for HSP identified through the Canadian HSP (CanHSP) registry from 7 medical centers across Canada. Patient

Cholesterol constrains pore formation by mammalian gasdermins ↗
Pyroptosis is a lytic form of cell death executed by gasdermin pores. Through a CRISPR screen to uncover macrophage genes required for gasdermin D (GSDMD) pore activity, we identify the endosome adaptor Rabgef1 as a positive regulator of pore formation. Rabgef1 deficiency preserves NT-GSDMD membrane binding but prevents NT-GSDMD oligomerization and lytic death. Mechanistic analyses revealed that Rabgef1 deficiency is associated with an overabundance of cholesterol in the plasma membrane. Cholesterol depletion or redistribution through multiple approaches restores GSDMD oligomerization and pyro

The Structural Genome Shapes the Chronic Wound Microbiome ↗
Recent studies report associations between the patient genome and the chronic wound microbiome, suggesting a causal relationship. Guided by the expectation that larger genomic perturbations are less likely to be neutral, here we study the association of genomic copy number variants (CNVs) with abundances of wound species. Genomic and metagenomic data were collected from 597 patients with chronic wounds at initial clinical visit. Association studies included 831 CNVs and 68 species, implementing a two-cohort design and study-wide significance threshold. There were 47 CNVs (5.7%) associated with

Optimization, Validation, and Application of the Chinese Barcelona Musical Reward Questionnaire (C-BMRQ) ↗
The present study optimized, validated, and refined the Chinese version of the Barcelona Music Reward Questionnaire (C-BMRQ) to address key limitations of the existing culturally adapted iteration. We aimed to deliver a psychometrically robust, culturally tailored tool for assessing music reward sensitivity—a core component of musical aesthetic experience and creative engagement—among Chinese populations. Two sequential validation studies were conducted: Study 1 completed preliminary optimization and validation with two Beijing samples (Ns = 387, 391); Study 2 comprehensively verified the scal

Endogenous Gdf15 activation limits adiposity and increases fecal energy excretion in mice ↗
Abstract Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) is an emerging target for obesity, but the effects of sustained physiological increases in endogenous GDF15 remain unclear. Here we use muscle-targeted CRISPR activation to elevate endogenous Gdf15 expression in mice. High-physiological circulating GDF15 prevents diet-induced obesity by limiting fat accumulation while preserving lean mass. This protection requires the endogenous Gdf15 locus and GFRAL signaling, without a detectable increase in energy expenditure. Alongside modest, inconsistent reductions in food intake, Gdf15 activation increas

A Bibliometric Perspective on Stable Bacterial Lipases: Research Trends, Scientific Collaboration, and Emerging Directions (2010– 2026) ↗
Abstract Background Stable bacterial lipases have become indispensable biocatalysts owing to their exceptional thermostability, catalytic efficiency, and tolerance to harsh industrial environments. Their expanding applications in biocatalysis, biodiesel production, bioremediation, enzyme engineering, and sustainable biotechnology have stimulated substantial scientific interest. However, a comprehensive bibliometric assessment of the intellectual structure, research evolution, and emerging trends in this field remains limited. Methods This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of

Integrative single-cell and bulk transcriptome analyses reveal a carnitine-related prognostic signature and fibroblast plasticity in HNSCC ↗
Abstract Background Dysregulated carnitine metabolism contributes to tumor metabolic reprogramming, but the prognostic value of carnitine-related genes (CRGs) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains unclear. Methods Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-HNSCC cohort and intersected with CRGs to obtain candidate genes. Prognostic genes were screened by univariate and multivariate Cox regression to construct a risk model, evaluated by time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Kaplan-Meier (KM) analysis, an

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
