Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1255 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Beyond Gaussian Entanglement: Practical Criteria for Polynomially Excited Quantum States ↗

Polynomial excitations consisting of creation and annihilation operators are studied. Subsystem entanglement is proven produced and preserved by such manipulations. NPT entanglement already present between any two subsystems of a general pure or mixed multipartite Gaussian state is preserved under all polynomial excitations. Nevertheless, these excitations can create NPT entanglement between initially separable subsystems, implying that the number of NPT entangled pairs cannot decrease. Polynomial excitations of a wide class of initially separable pure states are considered. For these states,…

    V-type Atomic Variance Squeezing ↗

Variance squeezing of a V-type atom interacting with a dissipative cavity is investigated. First, the influence of atomic initial state parameters on the variance squeezing is explored. The results show that the atomic variance squeezing switches alternately between Sx and Sy as the initial state parameter alpha sweeps from -pi to pi. The two squeezing intervals are symmetric about alpha = pi/4, each with a width of pi/2. For alpha = pi/14, only the Sx component can generate variance squeezing and will eventually disappear with time evolution due to unavoidable environmental noise. Then, the i…

Role of dissipation dilution in achieving high mechanical quality factors in van der Waals resonators ↗

Dissipation dilution has driven a revolution in the quality factors ($Q$) of top-down nanomechanical resonators. Yet it has not been leveraged for van der Waals (vdW) materials. Here we report quality factors up to $372{,}000\pm37{,}000$ in monolayer MoS$_2$ drums at 4 K, nearly an order of magnitude beyond the previous best for any vdW material at this temperature, enabled by a clean, polymer-free exfoliation technique. We develop a dissipation-dilution model for circular drums and analyze the contributing intrinsic and extrinsic dissipation mechanisms. The MoS$_2$ monolayer exhibits a diluti…

A complete quantum process model for physically realistic photo-detection in the joint photon-number and spectral degrees of freedom ↗

Photo-detection is a fundamental component of experimental photonics, yet theoretical models often treat detectors solely in the photon-number basis, neglecting other relevant degrees of freedom such as spectral characteristics. We present a complete quantum process model for physically realistic photodetection that incorporates both photon-number effects and frequency-dependent detector response, described through explicitly derived Kraus operators in the operator-sum representation. This formalism accommodates realistic inefficiencies, models detection within finite spectral windows, and can…

The influence of decay in dynamic models of gene regulatory networks ↗

We investigate the influence of decay rates on the dynamics of three-dimensional gene regulatory networks modeled by nonlinear differential equations with logistic sigmoidal regulatory functions. Particular attention is paid to the existence, location, and stability of equilibrium points in systems involving numerous interacting parameters. An explicit analytical representation of a central equilibrium is obtained under suitable relations between the regulatory weights, thresholds, and decay coefficients, allowing its location to be determined without solving the corresponding nonlinear algebr…

Preferential concentration of cloud droplets: Coupled effects of phase change and gravitational settling ↗

Cloud droplets respond to turbulent motion with finite inertia and settle under gravity, while condensation and evaporation change their sizes. The nonuniform accumulation of cloud droplets in turbulent flows, known as preferential concentration, has attracted sustained interest because it affects droplet collision and coalescence rates. We develop an analytical theory that quantifies the coupled effects of droplet inertia, gravitational settling, and phase change on concentration changes. Applying this theory to simulations of two-dimensional homogeneous thermal convection reveals that phase…

Experimental Benchmarking of a 256-Qubit Room-Temperature NV-Diamond Quantum Processor with an Optically Programmable Biomolecular Quantum Bus ↗

We report Zeus-256, a room-temperature nitrogen-vacancy (NV) diamond processor with 256 simultaneously active processor-level logical qubits arranged in a 16 x 16 array. Each logical qubit combines an NV electron-spin ensemble with nuclear-spin memory and ancillary resources. OpenQASM 2.0 circuits are transpiled into RFSoC-controlled microwave, radio-frequency, optical, timing, measurement and bus-configuration sequences. An optically programmable proprietary protein-chromophore layer with an internal metastable-triplet spin mediator provides a reconfigurable biomolecular quantum bus for local…

Controlling writhe in stellarator optimization ↗

The writhe of a closed curve measures its coiling, and for a ribbon along it, writhe is the contribution to the linking number not due to twist. In stellarators, large writhe implies large helical excursion and has previously been either an uncontrolled outcome in optimization, or fixed beforehand by the choice of the coordinate system. We present a simple method to target the underlying writhe of the plasma boundary during optimization. Our method calculates writhe and linking number directly from the underlying elliptical boundary of the stellarator. It therefore does not require any propert…

Linking Horizontal and Vertical Submesoscale Lagrangian Dynamics South of the Ibiza Channel ↗

Fronts, eddies, jets, and meanders populate the ocean surface and play a key role in organizing transport and mixing across a wide range of scales. From a Lagrangian perspective, frontal structures are conveniently detected as surface filaments that act as barriers to horizontal transport. However, the degree to which these structures maintain coherence below the surface and the relationship between horizontal and vertical motions in their vicinity remain poorly understood. Here we analyze two such filaments in the western Mediterranean Sea, south of the Ibiza Channel, using a high-resolution…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
