Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1259 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Radiation limits on amino acid preservation and chiral measurement at Oxia Planum ↗

Amino acid enantiomeric excess (EE) is a potential biosignature, but its measurement requires sufficient surviving material as well as preserved chirality. We derive a criterion that separates abundance-limited from racemization-limited preservation and apply it to the Mars Organic Molecule Analyzer (MOMA) on the ExoMars Rosalind Franklin rover. The model combines cosmic-ray and radiogenic doses with laboratory destruction kinetics and assumed ratios of interconversion to destruction rates. For an initially homochiral population of 1000~ppmw, the surviving EE is 58\% or 25\% when the total abu…

Cumulus parameterization controls simulated rainfall more than microphysics, but not at heavy thresholds: a 3 * 2 factorial WRF study over the Western Himalaya ↗

Rainfall forecasts over the Western Himalaya remain poor, and the relative contributions of the cumulus and microphysics parameterizations to that error are not well constrained.

Extreme events and statistics in an AI emulator of a global storm-resolving model ↗

We present HiRO-ACEv2 (High Resolution Output Ai2 Climate Emulator), a two-stage framework for AI emulation of the 3~km resolution X-SHiELD global storm-resolving model (GSRM), and highlight its ability to generate large ensembles of data for studying the characteristics of tropical cyclones and extreme events in high-resolution simulations at an inference computational cost over 300 times lower than that of traditional numerical GSRMs. HiRO-ACEv2 expands upon the precipitation-only HiRO-ACEv1 model to generate coherent precipitation, 10~m winds, and sea level pressure outputs, enabling a broa…

The hypervariational method: a general, automated technique based on innovations to tune the parameters of the Hybrid covariance matrix ↗

The Hybrid forecast covariance model is an operationally successful way to build a background error covariance matrix. It is constructed as a weighted sum, with scalar weights, of the climatological covariance matrix and a localized ensemble covariance matrix, with a localization matrix typically depending on a localization length. For best performance, the Hybrid needs to be optimized by tuning those weights and, possibly, other parameters, such as the localization length. Here, a systematic and automated method for this tuning operation is introduced. This technique is referred to as hyperva…

Twenty-Four Month Clinical and Laboratory Follow-Up of Children Infected During a Shiga toxin-Producing Escherichia coli Outbreak ↗

Abstract Background Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) infections can cause significant long-term renal sequelae. Intermediate-term outcomes for patients who do not develop hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) remain unclear. We evaluated clinical and laboratory outcomes in children with laboratory-confirmed STEC O157 infection in a large childcare outbreak. Methods This prospective longitudinal cohort study enrolled children aged 9 months to <6 years attending childcare centers in Calgary, Alberta, Canada during an STEC outbreak in September 2023. Among cases, clinical presentation was…

Clinical manifestations, genetic characteristics and laboratory markers of patients with epidermolysis bullosa: a single tertiary referral center experience ↗

Background Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a group of genetically and clinically heterogeneous diseases that presents as blisters, erosions, crusts, and scars.Materials and Method In this retrospective study, we report the clinical manifestations, genetic characteristics, and laboratory markers of patients with EB.Results Fifteen patients with EB were included in the study. The most common type was dystrophic EB (DEB) (n = 10), followed by EB simplex (EBS) (n = 3), junctional EB (JEB) (n = 1), and Kindler EB (n = 1). The disease onset was from birth in 13 patients. The most common cutaneous mani…

Chromogenic and FRET peptide substrates, quantum‐dot peptide conjugates and electrochemical peptide interfaces: A 25‐year journey from combinatorial chemistry to clinical readouts—A viewpoint ↗

This Viewpoint synthesises 25 years of work from a single laboratory on activity-based protease sensing and offers a critical appraisal of where each of the three resulting platforms stands today. The activity of proteolytic enzymes-rather than their abundance-determines the outcome of inflammation, tumour progression, viral entry and barrier dysfunction. Measuring it in clinical samples is demanding: closely related proteases share substrate preferences, and biological matrices are crowded with endogenous inhibitors and competing hydrolases. Over the past 25 years, our group at the University…

Protein distribution, quantity and quality is optimized by protein intervention in frail community-dwelling older adults during resistance training: a randomized controlled trial ↗

Protein interventions are widely implemented alongside resistance training in older adults. However, research has mainly focused on increasing protein intake, while changes in protein distribution and protein quality remain insufficiently explored. Therefore, this randomized controlled trial investigated the effect of a protein intervention consisting of dietary counselling and protein supplementation during resistance training on protein distribution, quantity and quality in frail community-dwelling older adults. This secondary analysis included 295 frail community-dwelling older adults (mean…

Integrating Quantum Machine Learning and Ontology Matching for Efficient Semantic Web Services discovery ↗

Existing Semantic Web Service (SWS) discovery approaches based on classical machine learning suffer from limited representational capacity in high-dimensional semantic feature spaces and fail to fully exploit structured ontological knowledge for semantic alignment. This paper addresses these gaps by proposing a hybrid framework that integrates Quantum Machine Learning (QML) models with multi-type Ontology Matching to improve both the accuracy and semantic coverage of SWS discovery. In this paper, we discuss the use of quantum machine learning models and ontological matching techniques for the…

A multiscale physics-informed neural network with RVE homogenization using isogeometric analysis for hygrothermal-electro-mechanical coupled analysis of piezoelectric composites ↗

Physics-informed neural networks have shown potential for coupled field analysis, but their application to heterogeneous piezoelectric composites under combined thermal and moisture effects remains limited because the effective properties depend on the microstructure and the residuals of the coupled governing equations may differ substantially in scale. This paper develops a multiscale method for hygrothermal-electro-mechanical coupled analysis of piezoelectric composites. At the microscale, a representative volume element of a 1–3 piezoelectric composite is constructed, in which the cylindric…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
