THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1342 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Exponential advantage in continuous-variable quantum state learning ↗
We consider the task of learning quantum states in bosonic continuous-variable (CV) systems. We present an experimentally feasible protocol that uses entangled measurements and reflected states to efficiently learn, up to sign, the characteristic function of CV quantum states, with sample complexity independent of the number of modes $n$. We prove that any adaptive scheme without entangled measurements requires exponentially many samples in $n$ for this learning task, thereby demonstrating an exponential advantage from entangled measurements. Remarkably, we also prove that any entanglement-ass…

Climate Sensitivity Derived from First-Principles Temperature Feedback Circuits ↗
A long-standing challenge in climate science since the Charney Report in 1979 is to determine how much the Earth's climate warms in response to a unit external energy input at the top of the atmosphere (TOA). In this study, we show from first principles that temperature feedback within an atmosphere-surface column operates as a set of feedback circuits, each governed by an intrinsic gain less than unity, leading to geometric amplification of energy through successive feedback cycles. In particular, the surface-centered temperature feedback circuit determines the amplification of surface energy…

Sensitivity Fidelity Reveals Physical Dependencies Beyond Forecast Accuracy in Deep-Learning Earth-System Models ↗
Deep-learning models increasingly rival numerical simulation in Earth-system forecasting, yet forecast error alone cannot determine whether their learned input-output dependencies are physically consistent. Here we introduce sensitivity fidelity as an additional criterion: alongside prediction error, model responses to input perturbations should be examined against a trusted reference or established physical knowledge. In an idealized Rayleigh-Bénard convection benchmark, four surrogate architectures achieved low forecast errors yet encoded markedly different sensitivities. Quantitative compar…

Hybrid Quantum–Classical Convolutional Neural Networks for Medical Image Classification: A Review of Architectures, Applications, and NISQ Challenges ↗
Deep learning techniques have significantly enhanced medical image classification for disease diagnosis. However, traditional deep learning models face several challenges, such as dependence on large annotated datasets, complex architectural layers, and millions of trainable parameters, which can increase computational load and cause overfitting. Although quantum computing offers potential for parallel processing and improved feature representation, its practical use is limited by the current capabilities of Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) hardware. To overcome these issues, Hybrid Qua…

Clinical Course and Predictors of Biologic Therapy, Hospitalisation and Surgery: A Five‐Year Prospective Study in Newly Diagnosed Inflammatory Bowel Disease ↗
AIMS: This study aimed to describe the characteristics of newly diagnosed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and to analyse their clinical course within the first 5 years after diagnosis, including the need for surgery, hospitalisations and treatments. METHODS: This prospective and large multicentre incident cohort registry in Spain enrolled adults diagnosed with Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC) or unclassified IBD (IBD-U) in 2017 and followed them for 5 years. RESULTS: A total of 3301 patients were enrolled: 1526 with CD, 1633 with UC and 142 with IBD-U. Their median age a…

Large Language Models for Information Extraction from Neurosurgical Clinical Notes: A Benchmark Against Human Auditors ↗
Retrospective clinical research depends on reliable extraction of structured variables from unstructured medical documentation, but manual chart abstraction is slow and vulnerable to inter-rater variability. We compared zero-shot extraction of clinically relevant variables from German neurosurgical records by large language models (LLMs) with extraction by two human auditors. We analyzed 881 de-identified clinical notes from 211 patients undergoing microvascular decompression and extracted 15 predefined binary variables across three domains: preoperative symptoms, postoperative complications,…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
