Physics-Guided Graph Safe Reinforcement Learning for High-Fidelity and Scalable Alternating Current Optimal Power Flow ↗
The alternating current (AC) optimal power flow (AC-OPF) problem is crucial for efficient power system operation, yet it remains challenging due to its nonlinear, nonconvex structure and numerous operational constraints. This paper introduces a Physics-guided Graph Safe Reinforcement Learning (PGSRL) framework that provides accurate, scalable, and physically consistent solutions to AC-OPF. The proposed PGSRL framework first models the power system as a weighted graph, encoding voltage magnitudes, load demands, and transmission line impedances to capture existing spatiotemporal correlations amo…

Artificial Intelligence in Virus Detection: From Metagenomic Discovery to Clinical Decision Support and Population Surveillance ↗
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly central to modern virus detection, particularly as metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) expands diagnostic and surveillance capabilities beyond targeted assays. This paper reviews how AI supports virus detection across three interconnected levels. The metagenomic layer forms the technical core of the review, while the clinical and population sections examine how sequence-level AI outputs are translated into patient-level and public-health decision support. At the metagenomic level, AI addresses key bottlenecks caused by fragmented assemblie…

Elevated Adenosine Kinase and Decreased ENTPD1 mRNA Levels in Peripheral Blood Leukocytes of Patients with MASLD Differentiate Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis from Hepatic Steatosis ↗
Background: Adenosine kinase (ADK) and the ectonucleotidases CD39 and CD73 regulate adenosine metabolism and play important roles in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. Their involvement in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) remains insufficiently characterized, particularly in humans. This study aimed to comparatively analyze ADK levels, the mRNA levels of the long and short ADK isoforms and the ENTPD1, NT5E, and ADORA2A genes in peripheral blood leukocytes (PBLs), and the proportion of CD39- and CD73-expressing cells in the blood of healthy individuals and patie…

The complete mitochondrial genome of Neoporphyra hollenbergii (E. Y. Dawson) L.-E. Yang & J. Brodie, an endemic species from the Gulf of California, Mexico ↗
Neoporphyra hollenbergii is an endemic red alga from the Gulf of California, a region with notable cryptic diversity. We report its first complete mitochondrial genome and the first Bangiales mitogenome from the region. The circular mitogenome measures 31,565 bp (30.6% GC) and contains 50 genes, including 22 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, 24 tRNA genes, tatC, and orf813. The cox1 and rnl genes contain introns, reflecting red algal mitogenome complexity, while gene organization is conserved across Neoporphyra. Phylogenetic analyses place N. hollenbergii sister to N. perforata, clarifying…

Clinical characteristics, antimicrobial susceptibility, and diagnostic performance of the LRINEC score for necrotizing fasciitis in Vibrio vulnificus infection: a 19-case retrospective study in Putian, China ↗
Vibrio vulnificus infection is a life-threatening marine-associated disease that can progress rapidly. Regional differences have been reported in its clinical manifestations and antimicrobial resistance patterns. However, baseline epidemiological and microbiological data on this infection remain lacking in Putian, a coastal city in southeastern China. This study aimed to summarize the clinical characteristics, antimicrobial susceptibility profiles, and factors associated with prognosis in V. vulnificus infection and to assess the diagnostic performance of the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necr…

Draft Genome and Phenotypic Characterization of an Adherent, Biofilm-Forming Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Strain (HU5) Isolated from Urinary Tract Infection in Mexico ↗
Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the main cause of urinary tract infections (UTIs), and its clinical success depends on adherence and colonization of the urothelium. Most publicly deposited UPEC genomes lack accompanying phenotypic validation of adherence or biofilm capacity, limiting genotype–phenotype linkage. Here, we report the draft genome sequence and phenotypic characterization of HU5, a clinical UPEC isolate that displayed a strong adherent phenotype, with rugose, dry colonies, strong biofilm formation (crystal violet OD570 = 0.675 ± 0.132), and marked aggregative adherence to…

Switch from canonical to recombination-dependent DNA synthesis by M-CDK phosphorylation of DNA Polα ↗
Abstract Cells preserve genome stability while occasionally generating genetic diversity through mutations and chromosomal rearrangements, but how these opposing outcomes are balanced remains unclear. Because late-replicating regions evolve more rapidly, we investigated the consequences of reduced origin licensing and lengthened S phase in yeast. Under these conditions, cells progress slowly through S phase without checkpoint activation, and enter mitosis with under-replicated DNA. We show that mitotic cyclin-dependent kinase (M-CDK) phosphorylates DNA polymerase α (Pol α), displacing it from…

CRISPR/Cas12a-Based Aptasensor for Cas9 Protein Detection in Spiked Food Matrices ↗
Residual gene editors are a concern associated with the widespread application of CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Here, we developed a CRISPR/Cas12a-based fluorescent aptasensor for the qualitative and quantitative detection of Cas9 protein. Secondary structure prediction and molecular docking were combined to identify potential binding sites of the Cas9-specific aptamer. A fluorescence aptasensor was constructed based on competitive binding: in the presence of Cas9, the aptamer binds to the target and releases complementary DNA (cDNA), which activates the trans-cleavage activity of Cas12a. Cas12a sub…

RNA Organelles in DNA‐Based Artificial Cells Provide Spatial Aptamer Functions and Enhanced Signal Processing ↗
ABSTRACT Naturally occurring biomolecular condensates orchestrate key cellular processes by creating spatially distinct reaction environments, yet engineering synthetic condensates that combine structural programmability with spatioselectively encoded function remains challenging. Here, we report multiphase DNA–RNA artificial cells (ACs) that embed functional RNA condensates as organelle‐like compartments within programmable DNA core–shell ACs. A single thermal assembly protocol yields three‐phase ACs comprising a glassy RNA core organelle embedded in a liquid‐like DNA compartment, surrounded…
