THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1350 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

MRI-guided physics-constrained deep generative modelling for personalized osteochondral scaffold design ↗
Abstract Osteochondral defects affecting the bone-cartilage interface present a persistent clinical challenge because current scaffold-based repair methods rely on geometrically generic, uniformly porous implants that do not adapt to patient anatomy, defect morphology, or the zonal mechanical gradient of native osteochondral tissue. Existing Deep Learning (DL) methods either produce anatomy labels without generating scaffold designs (SD) or generate scaffold geometries (SGs) from abstract scalar property inputs without incorporating patient imaging, leaving no computational pathway from clinic…

Reflections on the early days of the DNA damage response pathway in eukaryotes ↗
Abstract The DNA damage response (DDR) pathway has emerged as the central signaling network that preserves genome stability by using sensors to monitor the genome for aberrant structures and establishing signaling centers that promote organismal homeostasis. This review revisits the formative years of DDR research, focusing on the genetic dissection of the pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and its evolution into a broadly conserved eukaryotic signaling system. Early studies of ribonucleotide reductase regulation, replication stress–induced transcription, and cell cycle control identified key…

Metal Compound‐Based Non‐Enzymatic Electrochemical Cholesterol Sensors: Emerging Materials and Mechanistic Insights ↗
ABSTRACT Cholesterol plays a vital role in cellular function, yet abnormal cholesterol levels are strongly associated with cardiovascular disease, creating a need for accurate and rapid detection. Conventional enzymatic sensors, although sensitive, are limited by enzyme instability, high cost, and short operational lifetimes. This review highlights recent advances in metal compound‐based non‐enzymatic electrochemical cholesterol sensors, which offer improved stability, affordability, and potential suitability for point‐of‐care applications. We examine the electrocatalytic mechanisms and materi…

A Hybrid Ligand- and Structure-Based Drug Design Invoked through Square Attention in Protein–Ligand Transformer ↗
Abstract Computer-aided molecular design based on evaluation of protein–ligand (PL) binding affinity is important for accelerating drug discovery. A deep-learning model for natural language processing (NLP) involving an attention mechanism (i.e., Transformer) is expected to improve the PL-affinity evaluation along with clarifying amino acid residues and ligand atoms that are responsible for molecular interactions. However, the original attention (i.e., a scaled dot-product with row-wise Softmax normalization) is an adapted method for relationships between homogeneous inputs (e.g., two sentence…

Clinical Practice Guidelines for Pleural Effusion and Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid-Based Circulating Tumor DNA Testing in Lung Cancer ↗
Background: Pleural effusion (PE) and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) are increasingly investigated as alternative sources of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) for lung cancer molecular testing. As specimen-collection sites are close to thoracic tumors, specimens may contain clinically informative concentrations of tumor-derived DNA. However, standardized recommendations for PE/BALF-based ctDNA testing remain limited; practical, consensus-based recommendations for this testing in lung cancer were developed. Methods: The guidelines were developed using a structured multistep process modeled on…

Genome instability goes mobile: damaged DNA transfer between human cells ↗
In a recent study published in Cell , Maurais and colleagues 1 identify a new dimension of genome instability heritability between human cells. The paper’s central message is striking: genomic instability generates cytoplasmic micronuclei and chromosome fragments, direct cell-cell contact enables their transfer, and transferred DNA can persist, function, and confer heritable phenotypic traits, including drug resistance.

CRISPR dependency profiles distinguish pediatric from adult cancer cell lines via explainable machine learning: Identification of GPX4 and proliferative genes as therapeutic targets ↗
Abstract Pediatric and adult cancers diverge profoundly in their molecular architecture, yet whether these differences extend to genome-scale genetic dependencies remains poorly characterized, with prior studies examining single subtypes or individual algorithms rather than a systematic, interpretable comparison. To address this gap, we tested whether Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas9 loss-of-function dependency profiles can discriminate pediatric from adult cancer cell lines, and applied explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to identify the genes driv…

Three-dimensional genome organisation reveals spatially insulated outlier chromosomes in Ostreococcus tauri ↗
Abstract Marine picoeukaryotes of the order Mamiellales possess some of the most compact genomes among free-living eukaryotes, yet each species maintains two “outlier chromosomes” containing regions of markedly lower GC content. These regions have been recognised since the first Mamiellales genome was sequenced nearly two decades ago, but whether they occupy a distinct spatial compartment within the nucleus has remained unknown. Here, we report the first chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) analysis of Ostreococcus tauri , the smallest known free-living eukaryote, and show that its outlier r…

The PairInteraction toolkit for modeling Rydberg physics in alkali and alkaline-earth-like atoms ↗
Abstract Rydberg atoms provide a powerful platform for exploring strongly interacting quantum systems, both in free space and in structured electromagnetic environments, with growing applications in quantum technology. Accurately modeling their single-atom properties and mutual interactions is essential for interpreting experiments and designing new architectures. We present a unified theoretical framework for Rydberg atoms and their interactions based on multi-channel quantum defect theory (MQDT) and static electromagnetic Green’s tensors. MQDT provides a precise description of Rydberg states…

Targeting YAP/TEAD signaling disturbs RNA Pol II activity and enhances immunotherapy response via activated cytosolic DNA sensing pathway in gastroesophageal cancer ↗
Abstract Gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (GEAC) is a significant global cancer burden. Our previous studies demonstrated that YAP/TEAD are highly expressed in GEAC, and play a critical role in tumor progression, therapy resistance, and metastasis. Thus, targeting YAP/TEAD signaling presents a promising therapeutic strategy. Here, we demonstrate that VT00278, a novel compound derived from YAP/TEAD inhibitor CA3, strongly downregulated YAP/TEAD transcriptional activity and potently suppressed tumor-promoting phenotypes including proliferation, invasion and tumor sphere formation. VT00278 induced…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
