THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1348 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A universal twist-slide coupling mechanism governs deformations of DNA, RNA, and RNA-DNA hybrid duplexes ↗

Nucleic acid duplexes, including DNA, RNA, and RNA–DNA hybrid (RDH), undergo structural deformations that are essential for genome replication, transcription, and RNA-mediated regulation. However, quantitative measurements and mechanistic understanding of these deformations remain limited. Here, we probe nucleic acid deformations by measuring helical twist changes using single-molecule magnetic tweezers, where minute twist variations ( ~ 0.01° per base pair) accumulate over kilobase-length duplexes and become experimentally detectable. Unexpectedly, we find that RDHs do not behave as a simple…

The chromosomal genome sequence of Pione sp. (Clionaida: Clionaidae) and its associated microbial metagenome sequences ↗

We present a genome assembly from a specimen of Pione sp. (Porifera; Demospongiae; Clionaida; Clionaidae). The genome sequence has a total length of 149.53 megabases. Most of the assembly (92.8%) is scaffolded into 19 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 19.5 kilobases. From the metagenome data, we recovered seven bins, of which one was a high-quality metagenome-assembled genome (MAG) affiliated with uncultured “ Candidatus Puniceispirillum” sp. (SAR116 clade, Alphaproteobacteria).

Physics-Informed Simulated-Annealing Path-Planning for Mitigating Thermal Accumulation During Nanosecond Laser Drilling of PMMA Micro-Hole Arrays ↗

The high-precision laser micromachining of thermally sensitive PMMA polymers is severely limited by thermal accumulation, which deteriorates the surface quality of micro-hole arrays. Current laser drilling path optimization strategies predominantly prioritize geometric efficiency by minimizing travel distance, whereas quantitative thermal-constrained path optimization for PMMA micro-hole drilling remains underexplored. This work proposes a constrained simulated-annealing (SAA) path-planning strategy that embeds physical thermal constraints (critical thermal radius R and spacing threshold M) in…

Draft genome sequence of Exiguobacterium sp. strain HSB13, a thermophilic bacterium isolated from a terrestrial hot spring in Algeria ↗

ABSTRACT Exiguobacterium sp. HSB13 is a moderately thermophilic bacterium isolated from an Algerian hot spring. Its genome comprises 3,238,983 bp assembled into 62 contigs and encodes 3,284 protein-coding genes, with a GC content of 47.06%. Genome analysis suggests a genomic potential for exopolysaccharide biosynthesis and biofilm formation.

The Thermodynamic Origin of Quantum Uncertainty and Particle Localization ↗

Quantum uncertainty and wavefunction collapse remain among the most conceptually unresolved aspects of microscopic physics. Here, we investigate whether uncertainty and collapse-like electron localization may admit a complementary thermodynamic interpretation through recursive entropy-field dynamics. The electron is modeled as a dynamically evolving entropy field geometry composed of structural, electromagnetic, and thermal entropy components maintained through continuous recursive interaction with the surrounding vacuum entropy field. Within this framework, uncertainty emerges from incomplete…

Protein–Protein Interface Residue Prediction by Integrating Protein Language Representations and Structural Graph Attention ↗

Abstract Accurate residue-level prediction of protein–protein interaction interfaces is important for elucidating molecular recognition mechanisms and guiding targeted drug design. However, interface residues are relatively sparse and governed by complex spatial dependencies, making their accurate identification challenging. In this study, we developed EvoStruct-GAT, a multimodal graph attention model based on the PDBbind v2020.R1 data set. To reduce information leakage arising from sequence homology, receptor and ligand sequences were clustered independently, and the resulting clusters were u…

Artificial intelligence in veterinary diagnostic histopathology: Concepts, applications, and clinical implementation ↗

Artificial intelligence (AI) in human diagnostic histopathology has advanced rapidly, but clinical adoption has lagged behind research. Veterinary diagnostic pathology, being less regulated, could adopt AI faster, but the extent of its integration into diagnostic laboratories is unknown. This article combines a narrative introduction to key concepts, a scoping review of published applications, and an exploratory survey of diagnostic laboratories to provide an overview of AI in veterinary diagnostic histopathology. The narrative review highlights emerging approaches, including vision transforme…

Beyond gene ends: The expanding roles of transcription termination in genome stability and cellular homeostasis ↗

Gene expression is determined by the right region and at the right time to shape a cellular function. To understand the landscape of gene expression, large-scale transcriptomic analyses for transcription start sites (where to start) have been employed. However, transcription termination sites (where to stop) and the regulatory mechanisms involved remain largely unclear. Recent studies with state-of-the-art technologies have revealed that RNA polymerase II (Pol II) termination sites are not exact gene ends, but rather within broad downstream-of-gene (DoG) regions. Restriction of DoG transcripti…

Stable isotopes from Earth science to bedside medicine: beyond tracers and toward mechanistic biomarkers in medical oncology ↗

Abstract Stable isotopes are non-radioactive variants of the same element whose small mass differences produce predictable effects in chemical and biological systems. While medicine has mainly used the administration of enriched stable isotopes as tracers of physiological function, the natural sciences developed stable-isotope ratios into robust measures of source, transformation, and underlying mechanism across Earth and life history. This analytical power – that often goes beyond conventional concentration-based assays – emerged through advances in isotope theory, mass spectrometry, but perh…

PNBind : Prediction of Nucleic Acid‐Binding Sites Using Protein Structure and Protein Language Models ↗

Accurate prediction of nucleic acid-binding sites is essential for understanding protein function and facilitating drug discovery. However, current computational methods are limited by single-layer language model representations, Cα point clouds that discard local-frame geometry, and feature fusion in which high-dimensional sequence embeddings overshadow weaker evolutionary and structural signals. Here, we present PNBind, a multimodal deep learning framework that leverages protein language models, evolutionary information, and three-dimensional structural features via a geometric vector percep…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
