Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

High-fidelity long-read metagenomics reveals the metabolic functions of dominant termite gut bacteria ↗
Many termites digest lignocellulosic wood using diverse gut microbiota, yet functions are rarely linked to specific symbionts because complete genomes are scarce. We used PacBio HiFi long reads to reconstruct circular single-contig bacterial metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from the gut microbiota of the wood-feeding termite Nasutitermes takasagoensis . From 13.9 Gb of HiFi data, we obtained highly contiguous assemblies, including 11 Breznakiellaceae (Spirochaetota), two Candidatus Fibrimonas (Fibrobacterota), and one Chitinispirillaceae genome, three dominant lineages in this gut ecosystem

Self-Exciting Population Event Models Reveal Abnormal Temporal Amplification in MAPT-Mutant Human Brain Assembloids ↗
Human brain assembloids provide a tractable platform for studying mutation-specific network dysfunction, but most studies do not distinguish whether abnormal activity arises from increased spontaneous initiation or stronger history-dependent amplification. We introduce a low-dimensional discrete-time self-exciting population model for calcium-imaging event sequences that separates baseline initiation (%[mu]), integrated history-dependent gain (%[eta]), and memory decay (%[tau]). Across 175 recordings from 13 MAPT p.R406W or CRISPR-corrected isogenic assembloids, biological-unit inference ident

Selecting for lysis in a temperate phage population ↗
Temperate phages represent an abundant source of phage diversity, but their capacity for lysogeny limits their therapeutic potential. Here, we asked whether repeated selection for lytic replication could drive a temperate phage toward an obligately lytic lifestyle. We serially propagated a cocktail of three temperate coliphages using a modified Appelmans’ protocol in which phage populations were independently passaged on eight E. coli hosts. Whole-genome sequencing revealed substantial changes in population composition and mutation frequencies. The Uetakevirus phage 1362 was undetectable after

Characterization of two Martinezella spp. species: M. legmii sp. nov. and M. ivanii sp. nov., from tropical legume trees in Costa Rica ↗
Four rhizobial strains isolated from root nodules of tropical leguminous plants in Costa Rica were characterized. Strain LEGMi-135b was isolated from Lonchocarpus felipei root nodules, LEGMi-12c from Cojoba arborea, LEGMi-198b from Calliandra haematocephala and Rhizobium altiplani LEGMi-166a from Mimosa pigra. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene and four concatenated housekeeping genes (recA, atpD, GATase and gyrB) placed these strains within the genera Martinezella (LEGMi-12c, LEGMi-135b, and LEGMi-198b) and Rhizobium (LEGMi-166a). Genome-based analyses showed that strain LEGMi-1

Development of a CRISPR-Cas12a Assay for Detection of the P nimB G Mutation Associated with Heme-Dependent Metronidazole Resistance in Clostridioides difficile ↗
Objective Heme-dependent metronidazole (MTZ) resistance has emerged in Clostridioides difficile and is primarily mediated by a T-to-G single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the promoter of nimB (P nimB G ). We aimed to develop a CRISPR-Cas12a-based assay for rapid detection of the P nimB G mutation associated with MTZ resistance. Methods A series of primers and CRISPR RNAs (crRNAs) were designed and optimized to identify the most effective combination for discriminating between P nimB G (MTZ-resistant) and P nimB T (MTZ-susceptible) alleles. Detection was evaluated by visual fluorescence usin

Testing Bidirectional Genetic Links Between ADHD and the Big Five Personality Traits ↗
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) frequently co-occurs with distinct personality profiles, but whether ADHD shapes personality (scar model) or personality influences the development of ADHD (vulnerability model) remains unclear. Leveraging genome-wide association study (GWAS) data, we examined directional associations between ADHD and the Big Five personality traits (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness). We estimated genetic correlations and conducted bidirectional two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) analyses between ADHD and the Big Five

PpHDT1, a plant-specific histone deacetylase, regulates senescence and salt tolerance in the moss Physcomitrium Patens ↗
Abstract The moss Physcomitrium patens is an ideal model system for investigating plant growth, development and stress tolerance. The histone deacetylases play important roles in regulating plant development and responses to environmental stresses. However, their functions in P. patens remain largely unknown. In this study, we identified a plant-specific histone deacetylase, designated PpHDT1, in P. patens through phylogenetic analysis and sequence alignment. PpHDT1 was localized in the nucleus, and its expression was induced during development and under salt stress. Loss-of-function pphdt1 mu

Identification and Validation of Major Pre-Harvest Sprouting Resistance Loci in Nordic and Exotic Spring Wheat ↗
Abstract Pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) is a significant concern for global wheat production, which calls the need to identify Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) and enhance PHS resistance through plant breeding. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) followed by multivariate analyses and allelic stacking were performed on a spring wheat panel from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, MASBASIS, a collection of 301 spring wheat genotypes of adapted and exotic (non-adapted) genotypes, grown in 15 field trials over seven years at two locations in Norway and one location in China, characterised by f

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
