THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1335 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Precise templated editing using endogenous DNA polymerases ↗
Abstract Expanding the templated-editing toolbox, here we describe THOR (Template Homology Oriented Repair). THOR is a CRISPR-Cas9-based technology that engages endogenous DNA-dependent polymerases through DNA-tailed guides to enable precise editing without an exogenous polymerase, which can simplify editor synthesis and delivery. We demonstrated that THOR enables the installation of a variety of genome edits within multiple genomic targets, cell models, and delivery modalities.

Trypanosoma congolense Variant Surface Glycoprotein gene expression occurs in the absence of monoallelic transcription control ↗
Abstract Antigenic variation is a very widespread process for pathogen evasion of mammalian adaptive immunity, involving the continuous change of exposed antigens. In many single-celled pathogens, antigen expression during antigenic variation is monoallelic: just a single gene from a large family is expressed in one cell at a time. In African trypanosomes, antigenic variation relies on expression of Variant Surface Glycoprotein (VSG), and in Trypanosoma brucei there is detailed understanding of the machinery that dictates that only one of approximately 15 VSG expression sites is actively trans

Culturomic recovery of the banana (Musa spp.) core microbiome creates a biobank for functional microbiome engineering ↗
Abstract Persistent core microbiome members are attractive targets for microbiome engineering because they are more likely than transient taxa to colonise hosts consistently across environments. However, most crop core microbiomes remain defined only by sequence data, limiting mechanistic understanding and practical deployment. Here, we used targeted high-throughput culturomics to recover the previously defined Australian banana ( Musa spp.) core bacteriome from field-grown plants. Across five isolation experiments, we obtained cultured representatives of 24 of the 36 core bacterial taxa, incl

GWIscan: an automated pipeline for genome-wide identification and in silico characterization of gene families ↗
Abstract Background Gene families defined by a conserved domain are surveyed genome-wide as a first step toward functional characterization. Such surveys typically identify candidates using BLAST or profile HMM searches, often complemented by InterPro domain analysis, and then characterize them further using computational approaches. These approaches can be used independently or in combination, and the choice of method and parameters varies between studies. Existing pipelines automate parts of this workflow, but they do not fully support combining multiple search strategies, detailed character

Integrative analyses of flowering-associated variation in wild Saccharum spontaneum ↗
Abstract Flowering time is a key agronomic trait influencing environmental adaptation, reproductive success, and breeding efficiency in plants. However, the genetic basis of flowering variation in Saccharum spontaneum , a wild progenitor of cultivated sugarcane with rich natural diversity, remains poorly understood. Here, a core germplasm population comprising 147 accessions was characterized by integrating phenotypic evaluation, population genetics, genome-wide association study (GWAS), and transcriptomic profiling. The results revealed abundant natural variation in flowering-related traits a

Lectin gene families in Medicago truncatula: genome-wide identification, in silico characterization, and expression under rhizobial symbiosis and drought stress ↗
Abstract Background Lectins have established roles in plant development, host-pathogen interactions, and stress responses. Medicago truncatula (Mt) is a model plant used to study legume biology, including rhizobial and mycorrhizal endosymbioses and stress responses, yet no genome-wide identification of lectin gene families has been reported. The recent NCBI RefSeq annotation of the Mt genome provides a non-redundant gene set suited to this analysis. Results A total of 302 lectin genes were identified across 8 of the 12 established plant lectin families, with GNA the most abundant family follow

Low-rank tensor structure of precipitation and its application to satellite-reference merging ↗
The intermittent and variable nature of precipitation makes its accurate estimation over extended domains difficult, yet its spatiotemporal structure suggests that a low-rank representation may be possible. This work represents daily precipitation over the contiguous United States (CONUS) as spatiotemporal tensors and applies CANDECOMP/PARAFAC factorization, showing that preserving the native spatial and temporal modes yields more accurate reconstruction than factorizing independent daily fields or unfolded space--time matrices. Building on this finding, this work presents TMerge, a tensor-bas…

Efficient Estimation of Logical Sensitivities Through Fault-Counting ↗
Quantum error-correcting circuits are affected by multiple physical noise mechanisms, whose contributions to logical failure must be understood to evaluate code performance and guide improvements in hardware. The individual error budget contributions for an error type $i$ can be characterized by its logical sensitivity $ν_i = \frac{\partial p_L}{\partial p_i}$, which measures the response of the logical error rate $p_L$ to each physical noise parameter $p_i$. Normally, $ν_i$ is measured using linear fits such as finite differences, where $p_L$ is measured at two or more values of $p_i$ to calc…

SciExam for ENSO: Can AI Agents Build Climate Models? ↗
Language-model agents are increasingly asked to carry out open-ended scientific research, yet their results are usually graded against a known answer, a rubric, or a language-model reviewer, none of which can tell whether a new scientific model is valid. The AI Science Exam for El Nino-Southern Oscillation (SciExam for ENSO) is a benchmark in which agents build low-order stochastic models of ENSO, the dominant mode of interannual climate variability, from real observations. Within a six-hour budget, agents process the observations, write their own diagnostics, which are then frozen, and develo…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
