Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1330 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Exact Catalysis Cannot Overcome the Gaussian-Steering Barrier for Remote Wigner Negativity ↗
Gaussian steering sets a sharp threshold for creating Wigner negativity at a distance. A measurement by Bob can make Alice's part of a shared Gaussian state Wigner negative only if Alice can steer him with Gaussian measurements. We ask whether multiple copies, ancillas, or catalysts can lift this requirement when Alice is restricted to Gaussian operations. We introduce the steered negativity, a multiplicative monotone whose logarithm equals the Gaussian steerability for Gaussian states. It bounds the negativity that Bob can herald and rules out activation by copies, by ancillas of Bob, and by…

Quantum algorithms for four problems in density peak clustering ↗
Clustering is a fundamental task in unsupervised learning. The goal is to partition unlabeled data into clusters such that similar elements are assigned to the same cluster, while elements in different clusters are dissimilar. We propose a quantum Monte Carlo approach to density estimation, a key routine in density peak clustering. Building on this approach, we develop quantum algorithms for the full clustering problem and three related tasks: decision clustering, cluster counting, and heavy cluster counting. For each one, we establish a polynomial quantum query speedup under assumptions on th…

Information-Dense Synthesis for Molecular Discovery ↗
Machine learning can accelerate molecular discovery by designing molecules and planning experiments. However, many scientific challenges demand molecules with very rare properties, and in this sparse setting, existing algorithms offer little gain over random guessing. We propose a method to efficiently search large regions of molecular space using algorithmically controlled stochastic synthesis. Rather than design, make and test individual molecules, we design and make complex mixtures, test them as a pool, then deconvolute the molecule-activity map. We optimize synthesis to encode maximal inf…

Reflex instabilities II: The reflex motion of the central object drives at least seven instabilities in accretion discs ↗
This series of papers studies the stability of accretion discs to the reflex motion of the central object under the gravitational pull of the disc itself. In this second paper, we use linear analysis to reproduce or discover seven distinct instabilities. We outline their defining characteristics and propose a classification. Of the four instabilities that had already been discovered, three are artificial: one does not survive the transition to modern surface density profiles such as power-laws, one is due to the location of the domain's boundaries, and one is due to the use of damping layers n…

Reflex instabilities I: Boundaries makes grid-based disc simulations frame-dependent ↗
If the mass distribution within an accretion disc is asymmetric, it will exert a gravitational pull on its central object. The central object must then move away from the origin of the reference frame, resulting in atypical gravitational pulls on the disc. The goal of the present series of papers is to investigate the stability of this feedback loop. In this first paper, we report a surprising finding: the choice of reference frame affects the number and nature of the waves and instabilities contained in the analytical equations. To show this, we use a simple example: the modes discovered by S…

Quantifying the fidelity of a quantum memory ↗
Quantum memories are key ingredients for future quantum networks. Developing methods for their certification is therefore an important, yet challenging, problem. In this work, we present a general framework for certifying quantum memories and quantifying their performance in an operational and efficient manner, taking advantage of developments in the theory of quantum channels. We start by giving a pedagogical introduction to these concepts and tools and illustrate their natural application to quantum memories. Specifically, we quantify the fidelity of a quantum memory via the notion of averag…

Harnessing Post-selected von Neumann Measurements to Strengthen Entanglement and Quantum Signatures in Coherent States ↗
We investigate how post-selected von Neumann measurements modify the nonclassical properties of two-mode entangled coherent states (ECSs). From the conditional pointer state, we characterize squeezing, photon statistics, intermode correlations, entanglement, fidelity, and post-selection probability. Anomalous weak values with moderate coupling enhance squeezing, antibunching, sub-Poissonian statistics, intermode correlations, and bipartite entanglement, while fidelity captures the crossover from weak perturbation to strong distinguishability. These results demonstrate post-selection as a tunab…

An unified approach for the (inverted) quantum harmonic oscillator and the Berry-Keating hamiltonian ↗
We propose an unified view to three well known quadratic Hamiltonians widely considered in quantum mechanics, i.e. those of the harmonic oscillator, of the inverted harmonic oscillator, and the Berry-Keating Hamiltonian. We describe an unified approach to determine the discrete spectrum of these operators, and to deduce their (generalized) eigenstates. We also look at these Hamiltonians as the generators of $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)$, and of a generalized version of it relevant in presence of non Hermitian generators.

A 3D-Printed GHz Microwave-Resonator Paul Trap for Electron Confinement and Millisecond Spin-Qubit Coherence ↗
We report a 3D-printed microwave-resonator Paul trap that operates at the GHz frequencies required for electron confinement while preserving an open geometry suitable for laser access and imaging ion Coulomb crystals. The resonator exhibits moderate quality factors of approximately 1000, enabling large confining electric-field amplitudes at low input power, and is in good agreement with finite-element-method (FEM) predictions despite manufacturing imperfections, which we experimentally characterize. The validated FEM model is then used to calculate the electromagnetic fields in the trapping re…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
