THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1374 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

An extragenic fix for a broken enzyme ↗
In this work, we show how exploration of genomic sequence space yields an unexpected evolutionary ‘fix’ that allows the cell to bypass the phenotypic defects associated with a dysfunctional enzyme. We identified a transposon (Tn) insertion in the gene ( argA ) encoding N -acetylglutamate synthase (NAGS) that leads to arginine auxotrophy in Pseudomonas aeruginosa . This Tn insertion generates a truncated version of the ArgA protein (ArgA 188-432 ) that retains NAGS activity but, unlike the wild-type protein, is unrestrained by arginine feedback inhibition. However, the Tn:: argA mutant readily…

Ancient DNA challenges to admixture narratives: Insights from Notre-Dame Cemetery (1683–1796) in Colonial Montreal, Canada ↗
Historical narratives of early colonization in Quebec frequently portray French-Indigenous relations as cooperative and characterized by admixture; which are often mobilized in modern debates on false-indigeneity. These narratives have been studied through genealogical, genetic, and bioarchaeological analyses, yet individuals of African descent remain mostly absent from them, while Indigenous peoples are framed largely in relation to colonists. Notre-Dame Cemetery (1683-1796) in Tiohtià:ke-Montréal offers a unique window onto one of the earliest urban colonial populations in Nouvelle France, b…

Iron-dependent metabolic rewiring drives tryptophan-associated melanin production in a clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain ↗
ABSTRACT Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a human opportunistic pathogen, capable of producing a wide range of metabolites, including pyomelanin, which results from alterations in tyrosine catabolism. In contrast, melanin synthesis from tryptophan has never been reported in Pseudomonas . In this study, we applied an integrated multi-omics approach to characterize physiological adaptations associated with the emergence of a tryptophan-associated melanin-like pigment in P. aeruginosa PAH, a persistently re-isolated strain from a cystic fibrosis patient. Structural analysis revealed the production of a…

Physics-Informed Photovoltaic Fault Diagnosis Using Hard-Clamped Feature Engineering and Progressive Fine-Tuning ↗
Limited labeled fault data and discrepancies between simulated and measured signals complicate photovoltaic (PV) fault diagnosis. This study develops a transfer learning framework that combines hard-clamped electrical features with progressive fine-tuning. Four measured channels are expanded into a ten-dimensional (10D) representation containing power, an equivalent-resistance indicator, and consecutive-sample differences. A multi-scale convolutional neural network (MSCNN), bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM), and self-attention form the sequence classifier. The model is pretrained o…

Pan-Cancer APOBEC Mutagenesis, Immune Microenvironment, and Clinical Outcome: A Comprehensive Multi-Omics Analysis of All Ten Family Members Across 9653 TCGA Tumors ↗
The apolipoprotein B mRNA-editing catalytic polypeptide-like (APOBEC) family comprises ten cytidine deaminases implicated in cancer mutagenesis, yet their broader biological significance remains incompletely understood. We performed an integrated pan-cancer analysis of all ten APOBEC family members across 9653 tumors from 33 cancer types in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), combining mutational signatures, sequence-context enrichment, transcriptomics, immune microenvironment profiling, stemness, clinical outcomes, and somatic mutation analyses. APOBEC enrichment was detected in 17.6% of tumors a…

Physics-informed explainable machine learning and thermodynamic optimisation of CNT-based nanolubricants for enhanced vapour compression refrigeration system performance ↗
The significance of refrigeration lies in decreasing electricity consumption. However, carbon nanotube (CNT) nanolubricants have nonlinear effects that are challenging to predict through traditional analysis. This research develops a comprehensive experimental, thermodynamic, explainable machine learning (ML), and physics-based optimisation framework for the refrigeration system with R134a working fluid and CNT/polyolester (POE) nanolubricant. Experimental data for different concentrations of CNT ranging from 0 to 1 wt% are analysed without data pre-processing, whereas states, refrigeration ef…

Multi-omics and bioinformatics pipelines for personalized neoantigen discovery: current frameworks, challenges, and clinical translation ↗
Personalized neoantigen vaccines promise precise cancer immunotherapy, yet identifying immunogenic epitopes remains challenging. This review evaluates bioinformatics and multi-omics pipelines across a four-tier framework: variant-to-candidate prediction, HLA binding and presentation, immunopeptidomics, and proteogenomic integration. We examine MHC-II modeling, long-read sequencing, and TCR-aware architectures while addressing biological bottlenecks, such as tumor heterogeneity and immune evasion, to accelerate the development and clinical translation of robust, personalized cancer immunotherap…

Genetic Diversity and DNA Fingerprinting of Prunus davidiana Germplasm in Gansu Province Using SSR Markers ↗
Prunus davidiana Franch. is an important wild relative of cultivated peach and a source of stress-resistance germplasm. The genetic resources of this species in Gansu Province, which spans complex topography and climatic transition zones, have long lacked systematic evaluation. Here, 110 P. davidiana accessions from Gansu Province were genotyped with 20 highly polymorphic SSR markers to assess genetic diversity and population structure and to construct DNA fingerprints. The analyzed collection showed high diversity (mean number of alleles, Na = 22.1; expected heterozygosity, He = 0.945; and po…

Proteomic identification of secreted protein candidates mediating anti-colorectal cancer activity in a human-derived non-enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis ↗
The contribution of gut microbiota-derived factors to colorectal cancer (CRC) progression has attracted increasing attention; however, the specific bioactive components and their underlying mechanisms remain poorly defined. In this study, an activity-guided fractionation approach combined with proteomic analysis was employed to identify NTBF-derived components associated with anti-proliferative activity in colorectal cancer cells. Bacterial conditioned supernatant was sequentially fractionated by ultrafiltration, solvent extraction, and chromatography, and the antiproliferative activity of eac…

A noise-aware physics-informed neural network method for nonlinear consolidation with non-Darcian flow and continuous drainage boundary ↗
Accurate characterization of soft soil nonlinear consolidation with non-Darcian flow and complex boundary conditions is fundamental to assessing foundation stability. This study presents a Noise-Aware Physics-Informed Neural Network (NA-PINN) framework for one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation problems involving a continuous drainage boundary and non-Darcian flow. Multiple nonlinear couplings can cause gradient imbalance in standard PINNs. Furthermore, when measurement noise and sparse data are present, the inversion of the flow index is susceptible to ill-posedness. To address this problem,…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
