Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1403 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Identification of genes encoding GRF transcription factors in Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin and their potential role in response to salt stress. ↗

GRF transcription factors (GRF) are pivotal regulators of plant development and stress tolerance, but their functional repertoire in the rubber crop Taraxacum kok-saghyz (Russian dandelion) remains entirely uncharacterized. Genome-wide analysis of the T. kok-saghyz genome identified 10 TkGRF members, unevenly distributed across eight chromosomes and phylogenetically resolved into five clades. All TkGRFs contained the canonical QLQ and WRC domains, confirming their identity as bona fide GRF transcription factors. Synteny analysis further established close evolutionary conservation of these 10 T

Revealing the modulating role of germinated brown foxtail millet flour in potato starch gels: a cross-over application from dough ingredient to gel matrix. ↗

Germinated grains have been widely incorporated into baked goods as functional ingredients, whereas their regulatory effects on the texture of gel-based foods remain unexplored. This study systematically investigated the effects of germination time (GT, 0-48 h) and the addition level of germinated brown foxtail millet flour (GBMF, 0-8%, w/w) on the multiscale structural and functional properties of potato starch (PS) gels. The results revealed that prolonging GT or increasing GBMF progressively transformed the gel microstructure from dense and continuous to loose and porous. Meanwhile, peak vi

Caprine astrovirus detected in conjunction with necrotizing enterocolitis in goat kids in Indiana. ↗

An outbreak of enteric disease occurred in a herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats in Indiana, USA, in March 2024. Kids 2-5-wk-old had severe diarrhea that did not respond to treatment. Two kids that underwent postmortem examination had gross and histologic evidence of fibrinonecrotizing typhlocolitis. Ancillary testing for known causes of enterocolitis in goats did not yield any potential causes. High-throughput sequencing (HTS) was performed to identify possible novel viral pathogens. Total nucleic acids were extracted from fresh intestine for HTS analysis, and a subset of astrovirus reads was obtain

Semaglutide, independent of weight loss, attenuates cardiac and hepatic remodelling in experimental heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. ↗

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains a significant therapeutic challenge. While GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) show clinical promise, it remains unknown if their benefits are driven solely by weight loss or involve weight loss-independent mechanisms. We investigated the weight loss-independent effects of semaglutide in two preclinical models of cardiometabolic HFpEF: the ZSF1 Obese rat and the Göttingen HFpEF minipig. Male ZSF1 Obese rats (n = 12/group) and female Göttingen minipigs with 'two-hit' induced HFpEF (early intervention: n = 5/group; delayed interventio

A catechol-reactive Bacillus velezensis cell-free supernatant promotes Lentinula edodes mycelial growth and elicits an iron-homeostasis-related transcriptional response. ↗

Microbial metabolites offer a potential means of improving edible-fungus cultivation, but the response of Lentinula edodes to catechol-reactive bacterial secretions is poorly defined. We quantified species- and concentration-dependent effects of Bacillus velezensis BAC81712 cell-free supernatant, normalized as 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid (2,3-DHBA) equivalents, and characterized the L. edodes response using growth, biomass, biochemical, RNA-seq, and qRT-PCR measurements. Among three edible fungi, L. edodes showed the largest response; at 3 µmol/L, its colony-growth AUC was 32.54% above the steri

Tartaric acid and barium chloride pretreatment of distillery spent wash enhances biomethanation efficiency and methanogenic diversity: insights from mcrA amplicon sequencing. ↗

The distillery sector discharges approximately 40 billion litres of distillery spent wash (DSW) annually, a recalcitrant pollutant characterised by high organic loading, excessive potassium concentration (> 8000 ppm), elevated sulphate levels (> 600 ppm), heavy metals, high electrical conductivity (EC), and acidic pH. The indiscriminate discharge of untreated distillery spent wash presents a profound hazard to ecosystems and environmental integrity. Despite its considerable potential as an efficient feedstock for biogas production, the effluent's inhibitory components, mainly potassium and sul

Oncolytic virus encoding decorin and the CD40 ligand boosts T-cell response and achieves a durable antitumor response during breast cancer treatment. ↗

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains an aggressive disease with limited treatment options. Oncolytic adenoviruses represent a promising platform, but their efficacy as single agents is often insufficient. This study examined whether an oncolytic adenovirus co-delivering decorin (DCN) and CD40 ligand (CD40L), designated rAd.DCN.CD40L, could enhance antitumor activity and immune activation against TNBC. Recombinant adenoviruses expressing DCN (rAd.DCN), CD40L (rAd.CD40L), or both proteins were constructed and evaluated in breast cancer cells using cell viability, apoptosis, migration, in

A nationwide prospective randomized trial for diagnosing developmental disorders demonstrates genome sequencing outperforms standard of care. ↗

Exome (ES) or genome (GS) sequencing are recommended as first- or second-tier molecular tests for patients with developmental disorders (DD), but the clinical utility of GS continues to be debated. This prospective randomized trial involving all Belgian human genetics centers compared the standard of care (SoC) - combining ES and chromosomal microarray analysis or shallow GS - with GS for 567 individuals with unexplained DD. The study was retrospectively registered. The diagnostic yield of GS was 39.8% (113/284) vs. 30% for SoC (85/283) (p = 0.015), mainly due to an increased detection of sing

ZBED6 deletion activates FNDC1-mediated PI3K/AKT and MAPK/ERK1/2 signaling pathways to promote myogenesis in pigs. ↗

Myogenesis is a tightly regulated biological process that is essential for skeletal muscle growth, regeneration, and livestock production. Although the transcription factor ZBED6 is a key regulator of skeletal muscle development, the downstream molecular mechanisms through which it controls myogenesis remain incompletely understood. Here, using ZBED6-deficient pigs and primary porcine skeletal muscle satellite cells, we sought to identify novel downstream targets of ZBED6 and elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying ZBED6-mediated regulation of myogenesis. By integrating transcriptomic, q

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
