Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1406 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

What Caused the Orbital Decay of the Twin Van Allen Probes to Diverge? ↗
The Van Allen Probes were launched into nearly identical orbits and experienced the same solar and geomagnetic environment, yet their post-mission lifetimes diverged dramatically. Probe A underwent rapidly accelerating orbital decay and reentered the atmosphere in March 2026, while Probe B remains in orbit. We investigate the cause of this divergence using reconstructed orbital trajectories, modeled thermospheric densities, and measures of low-altitude residence and atmospheric drag. We find that small differences in orbital evolution progressively increased Probe A residence time in the lower…

Astronomia Ova: Kepler's Laws, Ptolemy's Equant, and Legendre's Polynomials ↗
Motivated by Kepler's long battle with the orbit of Mars, we present a family of orbits that satisfy his second law, conserving angular momentum around a central mass, and also fulfill Ptolemy's belief in an equant --- a point around which the angular speed is constant. For specific values of the angular momentum, these orbits can be written in terms of Legendre polynomials and functions of the second kind. They are analytic except at perihelion where they are twice differentiable. They resemble the "ovoid" (egg-shaped) or "metopoid" (face-shaped) orbits that Kepler considered on his way to th…

A Net Flux-Weighted Analytical Generalization of the Greenhouse Effect Beyond the Gray Approximation ↗
Analytical greenhouse models traditionally rely on the gray approximation, simplifying radiative transfer but treating optical depth as an unconstrained parameter that yields unrealistic surface temperatures. We derive an exact, closed-form solution directly from Schwarzschild's equations for a non-gray atmosphere. While the gray approach is physically inadequate because it over-weights saturated bands that carry negligible net energy transport, we show that the non-gray formulation constrains column optical depth via the surface net radiative flux, naturally accounting for the atmospheric win…

Numerical Recovery of Pore-Air Pressure and Effective-Stress Reduction in Cover Soils Using a Two-Phase Inverse Physics-Informed Neural Network ↗
Transient pore-air pressure in gas-loaded cover soils is difficult to observe between monitoring depths. We develop a coupled water–air inverse physics-informed neural network as a numerical proof of concept. Under a pre-calibrated constitutive model, three numerically sampled depths supply pore-air pressure, pore-water pressure, and saturation targets. An independent air-pressure field represents overpressure; the coupled balances constrain the joint state. On a one-dimensional same-equation benchmark, the full-window gas-pressure error is 0.0463. The data-only ablation reaches 0.0043, while…

Impact of Sphingolipid Metabolizing Enzyme β-Galactosylceramidase on Mitochondrial Sphingolipid Profile and Energetic Metabolism in Human Melanoma Cells ↗
Background/Objectives: Mitochondrial plasticity, reflected by the capacity of cancer cells to shift between oxidative phosphorylation and glycolytic metabolism in response to genetic alterations and changes in the tumor microenvironment, represents a key feature of melanoma progression. Sphingolipids contribute to the metabolic adaptations that support tumor development. Previous studies have demonstrated that β-galactosylceramidase (GALC), a lysosomal enzyme involved in sphingolipid metabolism, alters lipid composition and promotes a pro-oncogenic phenotype in melanoma cells. Here, we investi…

Parameter Estimation and Physics-Structured Model Compression of Grid-Connected Inverter Systems ↗
The growing deployment of renewable energy systems calls for accurate parameter estimation and compact modeling of grid-connected inverter systems (GCISs). This paper presents a framework for parameter estimation and physics-structured model compression using Physics-Structured-Informed Neural Networks (Ψ-NNs). A teacher physics-informed neural network (PINN) estimates LC-filter parameters by combining measurements with governing equations. A regularized student learns the teacher mapping through physics-informed distillation. Hierarchical clustering identifies shared weight magnitudes, enabli…

Physics informed neural networks with self guided mutual distillation between Kolmogorov Arnold networks and multilayer perceptrons for multidimensional forward and inverse Biot consolidation analysis ↗
Many geotechnical and underground engineering problems involve coupled fluid solid interactions in saturated porous media. Drainage boundaries, material interfaces, nonmonotonic pressure responses, and long time dissipation remain challenging for conventional physics informed neural networks (PINNs). Existing studies on Kolmogorov-Arnold networks (KANs) mainly compare standalone architectures with multilayer perceptrons (MLPs), while their complementary representation characteristics are rarely coordinated for coupled multiphysics problems. This study proposes a novel SGMD-PINN, a physics info…

TRIM3 functions as a tumor suppressor and predicts prognosis in triple-negative breast cancer: a multi-omics study with clinical cohort validation ↗
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive breast cancer subtype with poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Tripartite motif-containing protein 3 (TRIM3), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, has been implicated as a tumor suppressor in several cancers; however, its biological role and clinical significance in TNBC remain unclear. TRIM3 expression was analyzed using TCGA, bc-GenExMiner, CPTAC, and GEO datasets, and survival associations were evaluated with Kaplan–Meier Plotter and bc-GenExMiner. Functional assays, including CCK-8, colony formation, Transwell migration, xenograft tumorige…

Dissecting the associations of cardiovascular health, biological aging, and blood DNA methylation signatures with chronic respiratory disease risk ↗
The interplay between cardiovascular health (CVH), biological aging, and underlying epigenetic mechanisms in relation to chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) remains unclear. We conducted a large-scale prospective cohort study including 181,955 participants from the UK Biobank. Cardiovascular health (CVH) was assessed using the Life’s Essential 8 (LE8) score, and biological aging was evaluated using phenotypic age acceleration (PhenoAgeAccel). Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine the associations of LE8 score and PhenoAgeAccel with the risk of overall chronic respiratory disease…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
