THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1406 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Physics-informed Kolmogorov–Arnold networks (PIKANs) for noise-robust reconstruction of boiling heat flux from infrared measurements ↗

Recovering a noise-amplified inverse quantity from corrupted boundary data is a recurring problem in physics-informed learning for real-world applications. Specifically, small perturbations in the measured field are magnified through the spatial derivatives needed to reconstruct the target, and hence conventional discretization solvers turn them into large unphysical oscillations. We study this problem through the reconstruction of local time-resolved nucleate-boiling heat flux, which cannot be measured directly and must be inferred from infrared surface temperatures by solving an unsteady thr…

Trade-off between flux efficiency and metabolic control shapes enzyme allocation ↗

Efficient use of limited cellular resources is fundamental to metabolism. Although flux optimization is widely recognized as a central objective of metabolic networks, how flux efficiency influences the allocation of the metabolic proteome remains unclear and lacks direct validation. Here, we derive a simple analytical relationship linking the equilibrium constant (K) and the catalytic-abundance quotient (CAQ) of reactions within a pathway that defines the condition for maximal efficiency. By integrating reaction thermodynamics, enzyme kinetics, transcriptomic, and proteomic data, we compared…

Information‐Theoretic Framework for Allosteric Communication Pathway Prediction From Protein Structure ↗

Allosteric communication is fundamental to the function of proteins, but identifying the residue-level pathways through which signals travel and their directionality is still a major challenge. Here we present a multi-metric information-theoretic framework that identifies candidate allosteric communication pathways from a single protein crystal structure in seconds. The method combines Transfer Entropy (TE) from the Gaussian Network Model to assign a model-based directional asymmetry to residue-residue coupling, Mutual Information (MI) to quantify coupling strength, and Conditional Mutual Info…

The Everything-is-a-Quantum-Wave Interpretation of Quantum Physics ↗

I outline what I think is the most natural interpretation of quantum mechanics. By natural, I simply mean that it requires the least amount of excess baggage and that it is universal in the sense that it can be consistently applied to all the observed phenomena including the universe as a whole. I call it the Everything-is-a-Quantum-Wave Interpretation because I think this is a more appropriate name than the Many Worlds Interpretation. Here, I explain why this is so. Quanta 2026; 15: 19–23.

Statistical inference of virus evolution using ancestral recombination graphs ↗

Ancestral recombination graphs (ARGs) represent the coalescent history at every locus in the genome, subject to mutation and recombination. Modelling viruses using the coalescent with recombination remains less explored, due to the potential for complex, multi-scale dynamics. Using perturbative methods, we establish mathematical bounds that describe the balance between inter-host and within-host coalescence, and demonstrate that the highly-recombinant Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) coalesces predominantly at the inter-host level. We then modify SINGER, a tool from diploid genetics, for haploid ARG i

G4SCOPE identifies sequence features and epigenetic contexts of chromatin G-quadruplexes ↗

Cancer-associated epigenetic remodeling involves a complex interplay between DNA secondary structures and covalent cytosine modifications, yet predicting endogenously folded, chromatin-constrained G-quadruplex (G4) dynamics remains challenging. Here, we develop G4SCOPE, a multi-task deep learning framework that models chromatin-associated G4 occupancy and reconstructs quantitative high-resolution CUT&Tag profiles directly from primary DNA sequence alone. We initially trained G4SCOPE on genotype-stratified G4 enriched cut&tag landscapes generated across an isogenic series of human breast epithe

Genome-Wide Association Mapping of Sudden Death Syndrome Resistance in Germplasm from the USDA Soybean Collection ↗

Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS), caused by Fusarium virguliforme , can significantly impact soybean yields. To advance the understanding of SDS resistance in plant introductions, we conducted genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on a set of 351 accessions from the USDA Soybean Germplasm Collection. The analysis revealed seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly associated with foliar SDS resistance; three significant QTL (on chromosomes 3, 9 and 11) were detected with Fixed and Random Model Circulating Probability Unification (FarmCPU) and four (on chromosomes 5, 6 and two on ch

Pangenome and transcriptome analyses reveal extensive diversity and breeding signatures in the oat GDSL-esterase/lipase gene family ↗

Lipolytic enzymes play critical roles in plant development, growth, and stress responses. In oat ( Avena sativa ), they are of particular interest because lipid hydrolysis contributes to rancidity and reduced grain quality, yet little is known about genomic variation in oat lipolytic enzymes. Here, we investigated genomic and expression diversity of the GDSL-esterase/lipase gene family using pangenome, transcriptome, and genome-wide association analyses. Across 22 A. sativa and two A. sterilis genome assemblies, we identified 7,775 GDSL genes (~324 per assembly), revealing wide conservation of

DNA polymerase kappa supports repair-associated DNA synthesis and neuronal genome resilience ↗

Postmitotic neurons must preserve genome integrity for decades despite continuous oxidative, transcription-associated, and environmental DNA damage. Although recent studies have established ongoing repair-associated DNA synthesis in mature neurons, the polymerases that execute this synthesis remain incompletely defined. DNA polymerase kappa (POLK), a Y-family translesion synthesis polymerase, is highly expressed in neurons and undergoes an age-associated redistribution from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, suggesting that loss of nuclear POLK may compromise neuronal genome maintenance. Here, we i

Theories of Symbolic Number Learning ↗

Understanding numerical symbols (e.g., the verbal number word ‘six’ or the Arabic digit ‘6’) is fundamental to the development of mathematical knowledge, yet how humans acquire meaningful representations of numerical symbols remains an ongoing theoretical question. In this review, we examine major theoretical accounts of symbolic number learning and consider how these perspectives explain the emergence and development of symbolic numerical knowledge. We focus particularly on the processes through which children establish meaningful connections between numerical symbols and their referents, add

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
