THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1444 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Trustworthy and physics-informed artificial intelligence for food processing operations: validation, control relevance, and industrial readiness ↗

ABSTRACT Background Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in food processing are mostly limited to data-driven prediction models, while industry needs AI for trustworthy operational use. Much of the evidence still rests on dataset-level performance, whereas validation quality, physical credibility, uncertainty, interpretability, control relevance, and industrial readiness of AI models are examined less consistently. Scope and approach This critical review uses structured evidence mapping strategy to appraise recent reviews, methodological papers, and direct evidence studies across drying,…

A curated genome-scale nucleotide diversity panel of non-human primates ↗

Primates constitute one of the most phylogenetically and ecologically diverse eutherian mammalian orders and have a central role in advancing our knowledge of human evolution, speciation processes, and conservation biology. Although thousands of whole-genome sequences are available across many primate taxa, discrepancies in data processing—particularly the lack of ploidy-aware variant calling in sex-linked regions—have limited the utility of existing datasets for large-scale comparative analyses. Here, we use publicly available short-read sequencing data from non-human primates, recently publi…

GroScore: Automated Scoring of Protein–Protein Interactions Using Bidirectional Steered Molecular Dynamics ↗

Abstract GroScore is an open-source Python toolkit that automates the scoring of protein–protein structures using bidirectional steered molecular dynamics (SMD) simulations with explicit solvent. Building on a previously published unidirectional pulling approach, the current version introduces bidirectional pulling (unbinding and rebinding), interface cutout for reduced computational cost, support for three force fields (AMBER19SB, CHARMM36m, GROMOS 54A8), and automated handling of small molecules and noncanonical amino acids (using OpenFF), structural ions, and crystal waters. GroScore integr…

Fundamental dynamical units for physics-informed structural inference from perturbation time-series in networked systems ↗

Abstract In networked dynamical systems, the parameter of primary mechanistic interest is signed interaction structure. Recovering this structure from perturbation time-series data is a fundamental identification problem, compounded by three coupled obstacles: the combinatorial complexity of interaction architectures, ambiguity of causal attribution under limited interventions, and state-dependent dynamics that confound structural inference. Each obstacle is structural in origin and calls for a structural solution. We address these challenges by adopting a reductionist approach, introducing Fu…

The equivalence of quantum deletion and insertion errors on permutation-invariant codes ↗

Abstract Quantum synchronisation errors are a class of errors that change the number of qubits in a quantum system. The classical error correction of synchronisation errors has been well-studied, including an insertion-deletion equivalence more than a half-century ago, but little progress has been made towards the quantum counterpart since the birth of quantum error correction. We address the longstanding problem of a quantum insertion-deletion equivalence on permutation-invariant codes, detailing the conditions under which such codes are t -insertion error-correctable. We extend these conditi…

Resource-access breadth marks protective strains against toxigenic Clostridioides difficile ↗

Antibiotic disruption of gut microbiota creates opportunities for toxigenic Clostridioides difficile. One strategy is to occupy this niche with a non-toxigenic or weakly virulent strain, but even strains that cause little disease may fail to compete during pathogen challenge. We screened 21 sequence type 1 (ST1) isolates for their ability to protect mice co-colonized with toxigenic VPI10463, separating disease potential from protection. Some strains, such as ST1-75, caused little disease and protected, whereas others, such as ST1-68, caused little disease but failed to protect. Metabolomics sh

Codon usage bias maps ocean microbiome adaptation to temperature-nutrients regimes ↗

Microbial communities underpin ocean productivity and biogeochemistry, but their functional adaptation to environmental gradients remains poorly understood. Codon usage bias (CUB), a marker of translational efficiency, constrains growth rate potential, yet its role in functional adaptation across natural communities is underexplored. By analysing 589 metagenome-derived microbial communities from the global ocean, we demonstrate that CUB in 320 metabolism-related gene groups capture genomic adaptation to distinct temperature and nutrient concentrations. We identified four adaptation signatures

Agent-optimized GPU polygenic scoring at cohort scale ↗

A polygenic score (PGS) is a unitless weighted sum of allele dosages, interpretable only as a percentile within a reference distribution. Evaluating risk across models requires scoring each individual against a whole reference panel, but current CPU pipelines process targets or models sequentially, making full cross-product calculations prohibitively expensive. We reformulated PGS calculation as a cohort-wide sparse matrix product on a GPU and optimized it via an autonomous coding agent under read-only inputs, cold starts, and strict numerical validation against pgsc_calc. The scorer was "trai

Hiding in plain sight: rare Bacillus cereus group species are present among unassembled metagenomic samples in public databases ↗

Abstract The Bacillus cereus group is a complex of closely related species, which vary in terms of their geographic spread, industrial utility, and pathogenic potential. In addition to encompassing well-known species represented by thousands of genomes (e.g., bioterrorism agent B. anthracis , foodborne pathogen B. cereus , biopesticide B. thuringiensis ), the B. cereus group houses "rare" species discovered/first sequenced over a decade ago. Until recently, four rare species ( B. manliponensis , B. bingmayongensis , B. gaemokensis , " B. clarus ") were each represented by a single unique genom

A streamlined and abundant Nitrosopumilus population retains vitamin biosynthesis under high purifying selection in the Baltic Sea ↗

Genome streamlining is expected to favor the loss of costly biosynthetic functions, raising the question of what benefit justifies the continued maintenance of complex pathways in small genomes. Here, we investigated this question in an abundant Nitrosopumilus population from the Baltic Sea that combined a streamlined genome (1.4 Mbp) with substantial biosynthetic capacity for vitamins B1, B7, and B12. We found three lines of evidence that support the biological significance of this retention. First, phylogenomic analysis of 1,077 archaeal species representatives showed that B-vitamin biosynth

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
