Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Microbial-mediated biodegradation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by marine bacterial isolates: A sustainable approach to bioprocess development. ↗
The current research focuses on the biodegradation of PET plastic by marine bacteria isolated from Arabian Sea. Each purified strain was subjected to PET biodegradation profiling in order to select most potent PET degrading bacteria. On the basis of weight loss method (%), two efficient marine strains were chosen and subjected to ribotyping and optimization studies via OFAT approach. For further evaluation of PET degradation, FTIR and SEM analysis were carried out. The two efficient PET bio-degraders were identified as Bacillus subtilis MPW7 and Priestia endopytica MPW8. The optimum temperatur

The last breath of the aerosol-generating procedure? Implications for anaesthesia of Scotland's new infection control guidance. ↗
In August 2026, Scotland fundamentally changed its infection control guidance regarding how respiratory disease transmission risk is managed, by replacing the droplet-airborne dichotomy with the simpler concept of air transmission and entirely removing the aerosol-generating procedure (AGP) list. This evidence-informed approach is based largely on the findings of clinical aerosol studies undertaken during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, which demonstrated that many procedures on the existing AGP lists, such as tracheal intubation, generate little or no respiratory aerosol (substantially

Infant dermatitis induces long-lasting innate immune imprinting associated with the exacerbated adult atopic dermatitis-like skin inflammation. ↗
Atopic dermatitis (AD) frequently begins during infancy, and AD arising in early infancy represents a predictor of persistent AD. However, the mechanisms by which infantile skin inflammation programs future inflammatory susceptibility remain poorly understood. Two-week-old mice were treated with MC903 (vitamin D analogue) for 2 weeks and allowed to recover until adulthood. Topical corticosteroids were administered to a subset of mice after the induction of dermatitis during infancy. At 8 weeks of age, mice were rechallenged with MC903. Skin inflammation was evaluated by ear thickness, histolog

Caregiver's perspectives toward genome sequencing in children with neurodevelopmental disorders: Integrating genomic information into pediatric care. ↗
The increasing integration of clinical genome sequencing (GS) into pediatric care has the potential to improve diagnostic understanding for children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), yet questions remain regarding how families interpret and experience genomic information. This study examined caregivers' decision-making regarding GS, their understanding and emotional responses to genetic results, and the perceived significance and utility of GS among families of children with NDDs. Participants (N = 12) were self-identified Black or Hispanic/Latino(a) caregivers of children with NDDs (a

Efficient production of recombinant human serum albumin in Escherichia coli via oxidative folding mediated by the a domain of protein disulfide isomerase. ↗
Efficient production of properly folded, disulfide-rich proteins in the cytosol of Escherichia coli remains challenging because the cytosol is highly reducing. Here, we developed an expression system for recombinant human serum albumin (rHSA) by fusing the a domain of human protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) to the N-terminus of HSA. PDI(a)-mediated cis-fusion enabled high-level production of soluble rHSA in oxidizing E. coli strains under low-temperature conditions. Purified E. coli-rHSA was predominantly monomeric and had the molecular mass expected for HSA containing 17 intramolecular disulf

Identification and characterization of a high-affinity antigen-binding fragment against intestinal bacteria from non-immunized rabbit single B cells using Ecobody technology. ↗
Antibodies play essential roles in mediating interactions between the host and microbiota. Despite their importance, the specificity and functional properties of naturally occurring antibodies reactive to gut microbiota remain poorly characterized, particularly at the monoclonal level. Here, we employed Ecobody technology, a single-B-cell-based antibody screening platform, to identify intestinal bacteria-reactive antigen-binding fragments (Fabs) from a non-immunized rabbit. Using Bacteroides cellulosilyticus as a model antigen, we identified and expressed Fabs using cell-free protein synthesis

Genome-Wide Characterization of the DUF966 Gene Family in Rice and Functional Analysis of OsDSR6 via Overexpression. ↗
We previously identified seven members of the domain of unknown function 966 (DUF966) family in rice and showed that OsDSR2 and OsDSR3 regulate tolerance to drought, salinity and alkali stresses. However, bioinformatic characterization of this family remains limited, and the biological functions of the remaining members are largely unexplored. In this study, we performed a systematic bioinformatic analysis of the structure and potential function of the rice DUF966 family and focused on the unidentified member OsDSR6 in salinity tolerance. Phylogenetic and collinearity analyses showed that DUF9

Increased CCR2-immunopositive myeloid cells in the putamen and cerebellar white matter with blood-brain barrier disruption in multiple system atrophy. ↗
Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by parkinsonism, cerebellar ataxia, and autonomic dysfunction. Recently, a close relationship of neuroinflammation to MSA pathogenesis was identified. Studies in mouse models of MSA have indicated that peripheral-type myeloid cells and endogenous microglia promote neuroinflammation in MSA. However, their distinct roles in MSA pathogenesis remain unknown. We performed immunohistochemical analyses of brain tissues obtained at autopsy from patients with MSA and age-matched controls to examine the putamen and ce

Characterization of MdDOX-Co homologs revealed a novel gibberellin metabolic clade and a single-residue switch dictating the catalytic site. ↗
The metabolism of gibberellin (GA) is generally mediated by GA 2-oxidase (GA2ox) through 2β-hydroxylation. These enzymes belong to the 2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase (2ODD, DOX) superfamily. However, MdDOX-Co, another 2ODD, was recently found to catalyze atypical GA 12α-hydroxylation. MdDOX-Co belongs to the DOXC41 clade, which is phylogenetically distant from the canonical GA2ox. The evolutionary and structural bases of this unique catalytic site remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the functional divergence of the DOXC41 clade. Through phylogenetic analyses, biochemical exper

Mismetallation reveals metal tolerance and enhanced stability of human deoxyhypusine hydroxylase. ↗
Hypusination is a unique post-translational modification found exclusively in eukaryotic translation factor 5A (eIF5A). In this reaction, a specific lysine residue in eIF5A is converted into hypusine residue. The modification comprises two enzymatic steps: a NAD-dependent deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS) transfers the 4-aminobutyl moiety from spermidine to form a deoxyhypusine residue, and an iron-dependent deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (DOHH) hydroxylates this intermediate to generate a hypusine residue and fully functional eIF5A. Although DOHH is a key enzyme concluding the hypusination pathway, obt
