Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1450 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Valorization of Citrus limetta peel powder for probiotic encapsulation: enhanced gastrointestinal and storage stability of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum RAD1 isolated from fermented radish (Raphanus sativus L.). ↗

Probiotics offer significant health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts; however, their viability is often compromised during processing, storage, and transit through the gastrointestinal tract, which limits their effectiveness in functional food applications. In the present study, seventeen indigenous LAB strains were isolated from fermented radish, among which six strains showed potential probiotic characteristics. The strain revealed to have the most desirable probiotic attributes was identified as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, as confirmed by 16 S rRNA gene sequencing. Further, we

Valorization of tofu-processing wastewater for sustainable nattokinase production: insights from integrated multi-omics analysis. ↗

Nattokinase (NK) is a fibrinolytic enzyme with considerable potential for applications in functional foods and biomedicine; however, its economical and efficient production remains challenging. In this study, tofu-processing wastewater (TPW) was employed as a low-cost nitrogen source for NK production, and integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses were performed to characterize cellular responses and potential regulatory processes under different nitrogen sources. To evaluate the effects of different nitrogen sources on NK production, fermentation was conducted using tryptone (T), soy

A microRNA Catalogue for Red Abalone Larvae Reveals Developmental and Acidification-Associated Abundance Patterns. ↗

Larval development in marine mollusks requires coordinated gene regulation and is particularly sensitive to ocean acidification, yet post-transcriptional regulation remains poorly characterized in non-model gastropods. We characterized the microRNA (miRNA) repertoire and respiratory response of red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) larvae reared at pH 8.0 and 7.6. Small-RNA sequencing was performed at the trochophore (24 h post-fertilization, hpf) and competent veliger (110 hpf) stages, with three biological replicates per stage and pH treatment, while oxygen consumption was measured at 24, 48, 60,

Multi-environment genome-wide association study reveals genetic loci associated with drought tolerance during wheat germination. ↗

This study used multi-index evaluation and GWAS to identify QTLs and candidate genes for wheat germination drought tolerance, notably a 5D pleiotropic hotspot associated with multiple traits, offering breeding targets. Drought tolerance during wheat germination is critical for uniform seedling establishment in arid and semi-arid regions, ultimately affecting final yield. However, the genetic basis of drought tolerance at this stage remains less understood compared to later growth phases. In this study, a natural population of 389 wheat varieties was evaluated under three independent annual env

Complete assembly of Onobrychis viciifolia mitochondrial genome reveals evolutionary dynamics. ↗

This study presents the mitogenome characteristics analysis of Onobrychis viciifolia, including anatomization of repeat sequences, RNA editing site prediction, substitution rate estimation, and phylogenetic and collinearity analyses. Onobrychis viciifolia is a perennial forage legume with high crude protein content. Although its chloroplast genome has been characterized, the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) had not previously been annotated. In this study, we assembled the first complete mitogenome of O. viciifolia using a hybrid approach, integrating Illumina NovaSeq short-read and Nanopore

Engineering IL-4 resistant proinflammatory human myeloid cells for cancer immunotherapy. ↗

Adoptive transfer of proinflammatory myeloid cells enhances antitumor T-cell responses and limits tumor growth in murine models. Previous work identified transcription factors NF-κB p50 and STAT6 as key regulators whose inactivation enhances the inflammatory potential of murine myeloid cells. Herein, we translate murine findings to human cells and establish methods to generate proinflammatory myeloid cells from human marrow-derived CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). Using CRISPR-Cas9, we disrupted NFKB1, STAT6, both NFKB1 and STAT6, or NFKB1 and NFKB2 (encoding NF-κB p52),

Scn1a-mediated developmental regulation of prefrontal cortex plasticity and cognition. ↗

The voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.1, encoded by Scn1a, is essential for γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic function, and its alteration is associated with neurological disorders such as Dravet syndrome and Alzheimer's disease. We previously demonstrated that local Nav1.1 dysfunction in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) during adolescence causes epilepsy, cognitive deficits, and depressive-like behaviors. Here, to investigate putative developmental differences, we analyzed whether Nav1.1 dysfunction in the adult mPFC produces comparable phenotypic outcomes. Nav1.1 dysfunction was selectively

Localization and anticipation of seizure onset and propagation using network architecture of pathological high-frequency oscillations. ↗

In focal epilepsies, seizures originate from a presumed seizure onset zone (SOZ) and propagate through a network of dynamically interconnected brain regions. Accurate identification of the SOZ and propagation pathways is critical for surgical planning in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. We tested the hypothesis that pathological high-frequency oscillation (pHFO) network properties can characterize seizure propagation at the individual-patient level. We measured pHFOs (80-500 Hz) in >9000 channel-hours of intracranial electroencephalographic data recorded during early epilepsy monitoring

Genomic evidence for facultative selfing in the cichlid fish Cyphotilapia frontosa. ↗

Organisms have evolved a remarkable diversity of reproductive strategies in response to environmental variations and selective pressures. Although most vertebrates do reproduce biparentally, rare alternative modes such as selfing (self-fertilization) and different forms of parthenogenesis exist, but remain poorly characterized. Here, we investigated an unusual reproductive event in the normally biparental cichlid fish Cyphotilapia frontosa, in which a female produced offspring in the absence of a male. Using whole-genome sequencing data, we analyzed whether reproduction occurred via selfing or

A network perspective on the evolution of hybrid incompatibilities. ↗

Theory predicts that hybrid incompatibilities accumulate faster than linearly with genetic divergence, a phenomenon known as the snowball effect. While this prediction is mathematically robust under simplifying assumptions, accumulating evidence suggests that the structure of gene interaction networks can alter both the rate and organization of incompatibility evolution. Here, we extend classic DMI models with a network approach, where the assumptions of the Orr model correspond to the special case of a complete network of gene interactions (in which each gene interacts with every other gene).

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
