THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1545 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Cannabinoid modulation of central amygdala population dynamics during threat investigation. ↗
Cannabinoids precipitate anxiety and panic reactions in humans and can increase threat-related defensive responses in rodents in a dose- and context-dependent manner. Despite these well-established findings, how cannabinoids affect in vivo neural dynamics associated with threat-related behavior has not been examined. Here, we show that cannabinoids dose-dependently augment threat-induced defensive responses and the activity of central amygdala (CeA) somatostatin neurons (SOM) in mice, which are required for cannabinoid augmentation of threat avoidance, but not freezing. Moreover, enhanced anta

Integrated morphological and transcriptomic analysis of bone disorders in aldosterone-salt hypertension. ↗
Although excessive dietary sodium intake is a well-recognized risk factor for hypertension, accumulating evidence indicates that it leads to broader metabolic consequences. Here, we investigated the renal and skeletal consequences of high salt loading and the protective effects of esaxerenone, a selective nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) antagonist. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were infused with aldosterone and fed an 8% sodium chloride diet for 4 weeks (Aldo-HS), with or without esaxerenone. Trabecular bone architecture was assessed by micro-computed tomography, three-dimensional morp

DUSP4 activates adipocyte thermogenesis via CRTC3 dephosphorylation-dependent UCP1 expression. ↗
Obesity arises when a chronic energy surplus overwhelms the storage capacity of adipocytes and subsequently causes systemic metabolic dysfunction. Adaptive thermogenesis, primarily mediated by uncoupling protein 1 (Ucp1) in adipocytes, serves to counteract obesity by dissipating excess energy as heat. Despite extensive studies on thermogenic regulation, the phosphatases that regulate this protective metabolic pathway remain poorly understood. Here we identify dual-specificity phosphatase 4 (Dusp4) as a critical modulator of adipocyte thermogenesis via direct modulation of CREB-regulated transc

Population-genetic and evolutionary context of a CRIP3 variant associated with age-related hearing loss. ↗
Age-related hearing loss is a widespread sensory impairment affecting one third of the elderly population, yet the genetic underpinnings of this condition remain incompletely understood. In this study, we investigate the evolutionary context of a non-synonymous variant (rs2242416) in the CRIP3 gene, which is expressed in auditory hair cells, and previously associated with hearing loss. We first confirm that rs2242416 shows strong and consistent association with hearing loss across multiple genome-wide association studies. Notably, rs2242416 is also associated with reduced risk of heart related

Choroid plexus enlargement in Post-COVID-19 syndrome is linked to Serum-Induced cytokine secretion in human hippocampal progenitors. ↗
Post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) is characterised by persistent cognitive, affective, and somatic symptoms that extend months beyond acute SARS-CoV-2 infection, frequently in the absence of overt systemic inflammation. While immune dysregulation is increasingly implicated, the mechanisms linking peripheral immune alterations to enduring brain-related symptoms remain poorly understood. The choroid plexus (CP), a specialised blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier and neuroimmune interface, is well positioned to mediate such immune-brain communication. In this pilot case-control study, we combined high-re

Integrative genomics decoding DNA methylation-mediated genetic control of complex traits in pigs. ↗
DNA methylation is an important epigenetic feature associated with genetic regulation, gene expression, and phenotypic variation. However, the genetic architecture, regulatory organization, and trait relevance of the porcine skeletal muscle methylome remain poorly characterized. This study aimed to characterize the genetic regulation of DNA methylation in porcine skeletal muscle and identify genetically supported relationships among genotype, methylation, gene expression, and complex traits. We integrated 185 whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) datasets, alongside integrated RNA-seq, Hi-C

Chronic manganese exposure disrupts dopamine biosynthesis and amphetamine response in a mouse model of altered dopamine transport. ↗
The capacity for excess manganese to alter dopaminergic systems resulting in neurobehavioral deficits is clear, yet far less is known the impact of chronic, lower, sub-toxic manganese exposures. Manganese exposure may affect dopamine synthesis and metabolism, and as such impact drug efficacy. These may also occur to a greater extent in populations with genetic variants that render them more vulnerable to intellectual developmental disabilities. DATT356M/+ mice were used as a model of altered dopamine transport via an autism-linked single nuclear polymorphism in the dopamine transporter. Follow

Effects of regularization on the stability and behavioral relevance of VAR-based functional connectivity. ↗
Vector autoregressive modeling (VAR) is a powerful method for estimating dynamic functional connectivity (dFC) from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. However, VAR-based dFC can become unstable when only limited data are available. We compared multiple regularization approaches (PLS, PCA, Ridge, and Lasso) to examine whether they can stabilize VAR-based dFC without substantially compromising behaviorally relevant information. All regularization methods improved stability. Behavioral measure prediction improved and reached a level comparable to Pearson correlation-

USP36-mediated stabilization of NAT10 promotes osteosarcoma progression via ac4C-dependent KIF23 mRNA stabilization. ↗
Osteosarcoma is an aggressive bone malignancy with a propensity for pulmonary metastasis, yet the molecular mechanisms linking protein homeostasis to epitranscriptomic regulation remain incompletely understood. Here, integrated transcriptomic, survival, protein-interaction, and CRISPR dependency analyses identified the deubiquitinase USP36 as a driver of osteosarcoma progression. USP36 was elevated in osteosarcoma datasets, and higher expression was associated with poorer survival in univariable analysis. Functional studies showed that USP36 depletion suppressed osteosarcoma-cell proliferation

Establishment of a human pluripotent stem cell-derived sensory neuron platform for studying diabetes-associated metabolic and oxidative stress-induced neuronal injury. ↗
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) lacks effective disease-modifying therapies, partly due to the limited availability of standardized human-relevant in vitro models. Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived sensory neurons provide a potential platform for investigating human neuronal vulnerability under diabetes-associated stress conditions and evaluating neuroprotective strategies. In this study, we established an hPSC-derived sensory neuron-enriched platform to model diabetes-associated neuronal stress. Human PSCs were differentiated into sensory neuron-enriched cultures characterized b

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
