THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1536 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Altered neural prioritization of auditory information during cross-modal attention in children with ADHD. ↗

Efficient auditory attention requires prioritizing target over nontarget information. Although attentional deficits are a core feature of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the neural mechanisms underlying auditory prioritization during cross-modal attention remain unclear. We examined neural differentiation between target and nontarget auditory information in children with ADHD. Ninety-five school-aged children (mean age = 10.81 years), including 46 children with ADHD and 49 typically developing (TD) children, performed a visually cued auditory spatial attention task during elec

Computational framework for analyzing inhibitory gas access in carbon monoxide dehydrogenases for industrial biocatalysis. ↗

Carbon monoxide dehydrogenases (CODHs) are emerging as promising biocatalysts for industrial gas fermentation and sustainable C1 bioconversion. However, their practical application is frequently limited by inhibitory gases present in complex industrial gas streams. Here, we used computational analysis to characterize molecular transport pathways in four ChCODH isoforms from Carboxydothermus hydrogenoformans (Ch) and compare ligand transport profiles across the identified pathways. Comparison of the substrate carbon monoxide (CO) and representative inhibitor-associated species, including hydrog

Large-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels regulate respiratory, metabolic and behavioural responses to CO 2 /pH in mice. ↗

Large-conductance Ca 2+ -activated K + (BK) channels regulate excitability across physiological systems, and BK channelopathies cause neurodevelopmental delay, cognitive disability and structural brain malformations. The firing rate response of CO 2 /pH chemosensitive neurones has been suggested to be modulated by the BK channels' activity, which would function as a 'brake' on the chemosensitive response. Thus, our study examined the role of BK channels in ventilatory, metabolic and behavioural responses under normocapnic and hypercapnic conditions in wild-type (Slo1 +/+ ) and BK channel knock

From "neural activity" to "neural activities": a metabolic framework cultivates an integrative neuroscience by forcing a reexamination of foundational assumptions. ↗

Haueis and Colaço avoid referencing "neural activity," instead of speaking "neural activities". This subtlety speaks to a strength of their framework: Their metabolically oriented account helps bypass abstractions and stimulus-response assumptions endemic to traditional neuroscience paradigms. We highlight two advantages of this pivot to "neural activities," and how they pave the way for a unified, metabolically grounded, systems neuroscience.

Rationality is metabolically bounded, not cognitively biased. ↗

Haueis and Colaço's framework can be inscribed into a positive theory of metabolic rationality where cognitive strategy selection is governed by allostatic energy management across sequential decisions under uncertainty. Heuristics emerge as solutions to a metabolic opportunity cost problem with distinct empirical predictions.

Genomic characterization of carbapenem-resistant organisms from pediatric patients with hematological malignancies and genomic comparison of infection versus intestinal colonizing strains. ↗

This study aimed to characterize the species distribution, sequence types, and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms of carbapenem-resistant organisms (CROs) in pediatric patients with hematological malignancies, and to clarify the genomic relationship between clinical infectious CROs and intestinal colonizing CROs. Non-duplicate infectious CRO strains and paired intestinal colonizing CROs were collected from 2020 to 2024. Whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were performed to identify bacterial species, multilocus sequence types, resistance genes, mobile genetic elements, and gen

A wspA mutation in a clinical isolate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa results in rugose small colonies and enhances biofilm formation. ↗

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major multidrug-resistant pathogen whose biofilm formation complicates treatment. R ugose s mall c olony v ariants (RSCVs) exhibit enhanced biofilm production and resistance, posing significant clinical challenges; however, their formation mechanisms in clinical strains remain incompletely understood. Paired clinical isolates AR8023-1 (wild type) and AR8023-2 (RSCV) were chronologically collected from urine samples of a neurosurgery inpatient. Genome comparison via Breseq and plasmid complementation constructed the complemented strain AR8023-2 RifR :: wspA AR8023-1

Cross-regulation of iron and phosphate homeostasis by Fep1 and Pho7 in fission yeast. ↗

Iron and phosphate are essential micronutrients with partially interconnected homeostatic control; however, the underlying transcriptional mechanisms that integrate these signals in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe remain unclear. Fep1 (GATA-type repressor) is a key regulator of iron-uptake genes, whereas Pho7 (Zn 2 Cys 6 -family transcription factor) drives phosphate starvation response. However, whether each of the two factors influences the target regulon controlled by the other remains unclear. We combined genome-wide chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing, RNA sequencing, and

Lamellodiscus louiseuzeti n. sp. (Monopisthocotyla: Diplectanidae: Lamellodiscinae): a parasite of Chaetodon hoefleri (Teleostei, Chaetodontidae) with distinct attachment organ morphology. ↗

During a study on representatives of Diplectanidae (Monopisthocotyla) infecting Chaetodon hoefleri, a marine teleost from Senegal, we collected individuals belonging to a species of Lamellodiscinae, which showed a unique arrangement of the haptoral lamellodiscs, so far unreported in the literature, with the first lamella of the ventral lamellodisc open anteriorly, unlike the dorsal lamellodisc, which is closed. Due to this arrangement, we describe the species Lamellodiscus louiseuzeti n. sp.. Apart from the morphology of the lamellodiscs, the new species differs from its congeners by having a

Targeting Distinct Cell Cycle Nodes Overcomes RAS Inhibitor Resistance. ↗

Activating mutations in KRAS drive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although mutant-selective KRAS inhibitors and pan-RAS inhibitors provide clinical benefits, the development of resistance limits durable responses. Here, transcriptomic and proteomic analyses revealed that, despite effective suppression of mutant KRAS signaling, resistant cells sustain cell cycle progression. Distinct orthogonal mitogenic pathways were engaged in a context-dependent manner to bypass KRAS inhibition. While these pathways could be broadly inhibited using the pan-RAS

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
