Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1636 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Paired tumor-normal targeted sequencing supports clonal independence of multiple primary malignancies in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors. ↗

The association between gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and multiple primary malignancies (MPM) is recognized, but its molecular basis has not been investigated. The institutional registry recorded 26,783 patients diagnosed between October 2006 and December 2020, of whom 69 had GIST. Of these, 33 consented to genetic analysis under a prospective biospecimen-collection program. We compared clinicopathological characteristics between patients with and those without MPM. We performed paired tumor-normal targeted sequencing using an amplicon-based panel on GIST and MPM tissue from 18 patien

Comparative mitogenomics of six Thrips species reveals conserved architecture, repeat variation, and nucleotide composition bias. ↗

Thrips are widely distributed insects with economic importance, but their evolutionary dynamics of the mitochondrial genome remain poorly understood. This study presented a computational mitogenomic analysis of six Thrips species obtained from a public repository. An analysis was performed to investigate patterns of genomic architecture and evolutionary variations. Mitochondrial genomes were analyzed using bioinformatic approaches, including annotation, syntenic comparison, gene content analysis, and SSR identification. Codon usage bias was measured using RSCU and CAI metrics, while skewness i

Timing of Deep Brain Stimulation and Cognitive Trajectories in GBA1-Associated Parkinson's Disease. ↗

Background Individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) carrying GBA1 variants often develop advanced motor complications that prompt evaluation for deep brain stimulation (DBS). However, concerns about accelerated cognitive decline after DBS in GBA1 carriers complicate clinical decision making. A critical aspect that is increasingly gaining attention is the time at which DBS is performed. Objective The objective is to determine how the timing of DBS in relation to PD onset impacts cognitive trajectories across different GBA1 variant classes and in individuals without GBA1 variants. Metagenomic Characterisation of Antibiotic Resistance in Anaerobic Digesters and Their Implications for Environmental Health. ↗

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in environmental systems represents an emerging One Health challenge, with anaerobic digesters potentially serving as reservoirs of resistance-associated genetic features. This study analysed four publicly available anaerobic digester shotgun metagenomic datasets (M2, M3, M12 and M17) retrieved from the NCBI Sequence Read Archive to characterise microbial functions, resistance-associated annotations and antibiotic target loci. The datasets were generated using Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing and analysed through quality assessment, assembly, functional annotation

Graphene-Enabled Breathomics: A Translational Roadmap from Fundamental Physics to Non-Invasive Point-of-Care Diagnostics. ↗

Selective molecular recognition of trace volatile biomarkers in humid breath remains a fundamental coordination challenge at graphene interfaces. While exhaled breath contains a complex matrix of more than 3500 volatile organic compounds, clinical transition has been largely challenged by the selectivity-humidity paradox. This review traces the evolution of graphene transduction platforms from fundamental quantum phenomena to coordination-governed interfacial engineering strategies enabling selective molecular recognition. It critically analyzes the atomic-level interactions governing the inte

Updated Meta-Analysis of Left Atrial Appendage Closure Versus Oral Anticoagulation to Prevent Stroke in Atrial Fibrillation. ↗

Background Ninety percent of left atrial thrombi in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation arise in the left atrial appendage, which can be occluded percutaneously (left atrial appendage closure [LAAC]). Two 2026 trials (CHAMPION-AF and CLOSURE-AF) more than doubled the available randomized evidence comparing LAAC with oral anticoagulation. We evaluated pooled effects of LAAC on stroke, bleeding, and mortality by bleeding risk, anticoagulation eligibility, and comparator. Methods In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Scopus, and Embase from inception to April 15, 2026, for

Beyond the Threshold: Continuous Creatinine Change and Outcomes After Endovascular Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke. ↗

Background Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) worsens outcomes in acute ischemic stroke, but threshold-based definitions do not capture prognostic information from subthreshold changes. We tested whether early creatinine change within 48 hours of EVT conveys graded prognostic information beyond dichotomous CA-AKI. Methods We performed a secondary analysis of the CAN-REST (Contrast-Associated Nephropathy After Endovascular Stroke Treatment; REGISTRATION: URL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov; Unique identifier: NCT06596603) registry, a retrospec

A protocol for sequential isolation, purification, and collection of Luticola nematophagus eggs to obtain high-quality genomic DNA. ↗

Conventional strategies for obtaining planarian tissue for genomic DNA extraction rely on diet-based rearing or amputation-induced regeneration. These approaches are inapplicable to soil-dwelling flatworms that predominantly reproduce by egg-laying and lack regenerative capacity, such as the recently discovered nematode predator Luticola nematophagus. Here, we developed a protocol for the sequential isolation, purification, and collection of L. nematophagus eggs, comprising three steps: (1) physical sieving through sintered meshes of graded pore sizes under recirculating water flow to exclude

Population genetics of active transposable elements: overdispersion arises naturally from transposition-deletion-selection balance. ↗

Active transposable element (TE) families often show overdispersion (variance greater than the mean), which is in contrast to the predictions of classical Poisson-based models and related theories built on the same approximation. To address this gap, we develop a diploid stochastic model of TE dynamics under free recombination, based on a biparental Moran model with transposition, excision, purifying selection, and derive mean and variance dynamics of TE copy numbers at two stages of the life cycle: before and after transposition and excision. %which accounts for higher-order moments; the righ

Age-Associated Antimicrobial Resistance in Escherichia coli Isolates From Companion Dogs and Cats Linked to CTX-M Gene Carriage. ↗

As companion animals live in close contact with humans, the presence of antimicrobial-resistant organisms in these animals is an important issue in veterinary medicine from a One Health perspective. In this study, we isolated a total of 385 Escherichia coli strains from fecal samples collected from 218 companion dogs and 167 companion cats that visited veterinary clinics in Tokyo, Japan, from 2021 to 2024. Antimicrobial resistance to third-generation cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones increased significantly with host age, even though fecal abnormalities were low relevance. A total of 60 isol

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
