Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1636 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Identification of Bacitracin Resistance Mechanisms in Streptococcus sobrinus. ↗

Streptococcus sobrinus is a member of the Streptococcus mutans group and is a cariogenic bacterium similar to S. mutans. One of the characteristics of these bacteria is bacitracin resistance, and BceAB (MbrAB), an ABC transporter of S. mutans, has been reported to be involved in bacitracin resistance. However, the factors responsible for bacitracin resistance in S. sobrinus are unknown. In this study, 11 S. sobrinus strains were isolated from the oral cavity, and their bacitracin susceptibility was assessed. The results showed that 9 strains were low-susceptible to bacitracin (MIC = 128-512 µg

A genetic screen for suppressors of neuron degeneration in a C. elegans sod-1G85R model of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. ↗

Genetic variants in superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) cause the progressive neurodegenerative disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Treatments for this disease are limited, and the unique vulnerability of cholinergic and glutamatergic motor neurons to degeneration seen in ALS patients is not clearly understood. Identifying genetic modifiers of neurodegeneration can provide insight into the selective vulnerability of motor neurons in ALS and may accelerate identification of novel therapeutic targets. Here, we describe a forward genetic screen for suppressors of the stress-induced glutamaterg

Synthetic approaches as empirical tools for testing evolutionary theory. ↗

Evolutionary biology has traditionally inferred process from patterns in extant organisms and the fossil record, leaving many foundational questions constrained by their historical nature. Over the past two decades, a growing family of synthetic approaches-high-throughput mapping such as deep mutational scanning, reconstructive experiments such as ancestral sequence reconstruction, controlled evolution, and synthetic biology in the narrower sense-have made it possible to test these questions directly by systematically exploring sequence space, reconstructing historical states, replaying evolut

Comparative pangenomics unveils distinct host adaptation trends and conserved biosynthetic potential in microbiome Clostridia. ↗

To thrive in diverse ecological niches, bacteria adopt various lifestyles that range from living freely in the soil to forming close associations with human and animal hosts. However, the impact of these adaptation processes on their genomes and metabolisms remains largely unexplored beyond the genus level. Investigating these evolutionary dynamics at higher taxonomic levels can enhance our understanding of the relationship between host adaptation and functional capabilities. Here, we examine the evolutionary trajectories and metabolic capabilities of the Clostridia class, which displays a wid

The Role of Glymphatic Clearance in Affective Decision-Making in Adolescents with Non-Suicidal Self-Injury. ↗

Background Adolescents with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) frequently exhibit severe sleep disturbances and heterogeneous cognitive impairments, yet the underlying neurophysiological basis remains unclear. The glymphatic system, a sleep-dependent macroscopic clearance network, is critical for metabolic waste removal and neurocognitive homeostasis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the physiological role of glymphatic function in linking sleep burden to distinct cognitive performances in adolescents with NSSI. Methods We assessed 44 NSSI adolescents and 33 healthy controls (HCs). Usin

Identifying adaptive variation in spatially structured populations using low-coverage whole-genome sequencing data. ↗

Successful implementation of evolutionary programs to rescue climatically threatened species requires identification of adaptive variation. Although many genotype-environment association methods have been successful in identifying adaptive variation, current approaches can be improved in two important aspects. First, most existing methods do not account for genotype uncertainty in widely available low-coverage whole-genome sequencing data. Researchers often restrict analysis to loci for which genotypes can be inferred reliably or call the most probable genotype, allowing the use of genotype-ba

METTL3 Increases Temozolomide Resistance in MGMT-Negative Glioblastoma by Enhancing CBX5 mRNA Stability in an m 6 A-IGF2BP2-Dependent Manner. ↗

Aims We examined whether chromobox protein 5 (CBX5) contributes to temozolomide (TMZ) resistance in O 6 -methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT)-negative glioblastoma (GBM) and whether it is regulated by methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3)-dependent N 6 -methyladenosine (m 6 A) and insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2). Methods Public datasets, clinical specimens, MGMT-negative cells, and subcutaneous xenografts were examined using functional, mechanistic, and rescue assays. Results In the CGGA693 cohort of the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas, higher CBX5 expression remain

Multi-Taxa Genome-Environment Associations With Contemporary and Historical Climate in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. ↗

Multi-taxa genomic data offer valuable opportunities to assess the extent to which co-distributed taxa exhibit parallel responses to shared environmental regimes and climatic history. In this study, we use genome-environment associations (GEA) to examine how present and past climate may have shaped spatial patterns of adaptive genomic variation across 27 taxa in the Atlantic Forest biodiversity hotspot. Our sampling repurposes existing data from a wide array of taxonomic groups, including frogs, lizards, birds, butterflies, flowering plants, and a conifer, spanning multiple bioclimatic domains

From ice age to present: Clonal expansion and genetic variation in the world's oldest conifer stand. ↗

Premise Clonality is widespread among plants, yet the processes governing genetic diversity within the most ancient clones remains understudied. We investigated these dynamics using a reputed 10,500-year-old clonal stand of one of the world's longest-lived tree species, the paleoendemic conifer Lagarostrobos franklinii at Mt Read in Western Tasmania. Methods To quantify the clone's spatial extent and map its underlying genetic structure and gain insights into its origin, we used unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry and two complementary genetic data sets including nuclear simple sequen

Neurotrauma During Military Training: Results of the INVestigating traIning assoCiated blasT pAthology (INVICTA) Study. ↗

Concern is growing that subconcussive blast exposure during military exercises such as heavy weapons training (HWT) may adversely affect brain function. HWT involves firing shoulder-mounted weapons that can expose the gunner, assistant gunner, and instructors (range safety officers [RSOs]) to blast overpressure >4.0 psi. Every HWT participant sustains repeated blast exposure: gunner and assistant alternate firing within an event, and instructors supervise multiple firings at approximately 12 HWTs over two years. This five-year study was designed to quantify blast exposure and serially assess a

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
