THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1633 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Dual-Function Cosubstrates Enable Threonine Dehydrogenase-Driven Chemoenzymatic Pyrrole Synthesis. ↗

Preparative biocatalytic synthesis of substituted pyrroles remains challenging despite recent advances in enzymatic α-aminoketone generation. In this study, we report a concurrent chemoenzymatic cascade to disubstituted pyrroles based on threonine dehydrogenase (ThrDH)-catalyzed generation of aminoacetone from l-threonine that is intercepted in situ by Knorr pyrrole condensation with β-dicarbonyl compounds. To overcome cofactor limitations at high substrate concentrations, Escherichia coli ThrDH was coupled to an alcohol dehydrogenase from Rhodococcus ruber DSM 44541 (ADH-A), enabling dual-fun

Response to Letter to the Editor on "Unveiling 'Idiopathic' Nocturia: The Central Role of Sleep-Induced Hypogonadism and ANP-Mediated Hemodynamics". ↗

Background We respond to the comments of Lin et al. on our Think Tank review of potential therapeutic avenues for idiopathic nocturia. Methods Evidence was synthesized from relevant literature on OSA-associated nocturia, testosterone decline with sleep-induced hypogonadism, and natriuresis-mediated impairment of aquaporin (AQP)-dependent water reabsorption. Result We first clarify that our review was confined to idiopathic nocturia. We also note that "occult OSA" should more accurately be termed undiagnosed OSA, and that the associated nocturia should be classified as secondary rather than idi

Causal Associations Between Plasma Metabolites and Stroke Risk Identified by Mendelian Randomization. ↗

Stroke is a leading cause of global mortality and morbidity, yet its underlying metabolic mechanisms remain largely undefined. Elucidating the causal role of blood metabolites in stroke pathogenesis is crucial for developing effective interventions. This study employed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) framework to investigate the causal relationships between 1400 plasma metabolites and the risk of stroke and its subtypes. We integrated genome-wide association study (GWAS) data on metabolites from 3441 to 8299 European-ancestry individuals in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (C

Transfer-Aided Deep Learning for Life Cycle Assessment Prediction of Precursor Molecules. ↗

To date the environmental impacts of production of most chemicals are unknown, hindering sustainable process evaluation and design. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the most comprehensive method for estimating these environmental impacts but existing LCA databases cover a small fraction of the industrial chemicals. Environmental impact prediction models promise to bridge this gap; several models were published, with the apparent limitations of limited accuracy and applicability. The very small number of available LCA datasets for industrial chemicals is the major issue for developing environment

Traumatic brain injury induces cell-type-specific remodelling of the proteostasis network. ↗

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) triggers competing damage and repair processes that can result in chronic neurodegenerative protein conformational disorders. Acute alterations in proteostasis have been reported after injury, but a comprehensive understanding of changes to the proteostasis network (PN) has been limited by the complex cellular pathology of TBI. The recent enumeration of the human PN and advances in single-cell transcriptomics make it possible to delineate PN dynamics in multifactorial diseases such as TBI. Here, we leverage archival mouse and human transcriptomic data to identify c

Multi-molecular adaptations of long-term opioid use in chronic pain. ↗

Millions of chronic pain patients are managed with opioids, yet the neuropsychological implications of stable long-term daily opioid consumption remain unknown. Here, we contrasted the psychosocial profiles and brain structure and function of 70 chronic back pain patients prescribed opioids (CBP+O, average current daily opioid exposure of 7.8 years) with tightly matched 70 opioid-naïve patients (CBP-O) and 30 healthy subjects. Despite CBP+O exhibiting only modestly worse psychosocial profiles and small differences in brain morphology relative to CBP-O, CBP+O showed stark differences in brain a

Exploring the Cosmeceutical Potential of Six Malaysian Indigenous Tropical Fruit Trees: Radical Scavenging, Anti-Tyrosinase, and Photoprotective Activities Evaluation. ↗

Malaysian indigenous tropical fruit trees have been reported to possess various biological activities, but remain largely underutilized. This study aims to investigate the skin-lightening cosmeceutical potential of six Malaysian indigenous tropical fruit trees, namely Averrhoa bilimbi, Baccaurea motleyana, Bouea macrophylla, Cynometra cauliflora, Garcinia celebica, and Syzygium malaccense. Herein, crude ethanol and its fractionated extracts (hexane, chloroform, and ethyl acetate) from the leaves and twigs were evaluated for total phenolic content (TPC), radical scavenging, tyrosinase inhibitor

Cookware abrasion-derived particulates from non-stick cookware induce sublethal ecotoxicological disturbances in Physalaemus cuvieri tadpoles and Allium cepa roots. ↗

Although nonstick cookware is widely used in everyday life, the mechanical wear of its coatings has been proposed as a potential source of particulate release to aquatic environments, but it remains poorly investigated. In this study, we evaluated the composition, heterogeneity, and ecotoxicological effects of cookware abrasion-derived particulates (CADPs) generated under a controlled dry-abrasion protocol using nonstick cookware and a stainless steel scourer, using Physalaemus cuvieri and Allium cepa as complementary model systems. CADPs were characterized by optical microscopy, UV epifluores

Structural and Functional Characterisation of a Metagenome-Derived CYP108D18 Reveals an Unusual Dioxygen-Bound State and Selective Hydrocarbon Hydroxylation. ↗

Cytochrome P450 enzymes form a large superfamily of monooxygenases capable of oxidising diverse substrates. Among them, members of the CYP108 family are recognised for their role in monoterpenoid oxidation. In this study, we report the identification and characterisation of a new CYP108 family member, CYP108D18, from a metagenome-assembled genome derived from microbial communities in a geothermal hot spring located in northern Queensland, Australia. Taxonomic binning associated CYP108D18 with a Novosphingobium species, a genus well-known for its bioremediation potential. CYP108D18 was heterolo

C3 photosynthetic activity in ephemeral leaflets of the constitutive CAM species Opuntia ficus-indica. ↗

Ephemeral leaflets are produced on emerging daughter cladodes of Opuntia ficus-indica, a constitutive crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) species of major agronomic and ecological importance. Despite their ubiquity across Cactaceae, these transient organs have never been characterized as discrete photosynthetic units. Here we investigate whether leaflets operate via C3 or CAM photosynthesis and quantify their contribution to early cladode carbon (C) economy. Gas-exchange measurements, stomatal aperture analysis, titratable acidity assays, C isotope discrimination (δ13C), and 13CO2 pulse-labelli

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
