Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1633 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Glucocorticoids Do Not Enhance BK Polyomavirus Replication in Human Renal Proximal Tubular Epithelial Cells In Vitro. ↗
BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) infection may lead to BKPyV-associated nephropathy (BKPyVAN) and subsequent graft loss in kidney transplant recipients. Experimental studies have suggested that glucocorticoids (GCs) may enhance BKPyV replication through a steroid-responsive element within the viral genome. However, clinical observations have not consistently supported this association, prompting re-investigation of the effect of GCs on BKPyV replication in primary human renal epithelial cells (PTECs). PTECs were infected with BKPyV and subsequently exposed to increasing concentrations of methylpredniso

An Analytical Approach for Human Health Risk Assessment of Dietary Exposure to Pesticide Residues in Potatoes Among Adults and Children/Adolescents. ↗
This study proposes an integrated human health risk assessment framework combining analytical verification, regulatory compliance, deterministic dietary exposure assessment, and probabilistic modeling. Pesticide residues were determined in 100 potato samples using the quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, targeting 130 active substances according to SANTE/11312/2021. Fifteen pesticides were quantified (≥LOQ [limit of quantification]) and included in the risk assessment. Quantifiable resid

Explore the Mechanism of Xiaoyaosan for Treatment of Bipolar Disorder Based on Network Pharmacology, Experimental Validation and Molecular Docking. ↗
Aim of the study Xiaoyaosan (XYS) has significant anti-inflammatory effects and is widely used for treating depression. However, the multitarget mechanism of XYS in the treatment of bipolar disorder (BD) remains unexplored. In this study, network pharmacology, molecular docking, and experimental validation were integrated to elucidate the mechanisms of XYS and its therapeutic efficacy in BD. Methods First, network pharmacology was employed to elucidate the anti-BD mechanism of XYS. Second, the therapeutic effects of XYS against BD were investigated in a BD mouse model induced by Ank3 gene knoc

Integrating Multimodal MRI Habitat and Transformer-Based Pathomics to Predict High-Risk Molecular Subtypes and Explore Biological Mechanisms in Adult Diffuse Gliomas. ↗
Background This study aims to achieve accurate prediction of high-risk molecular subtypes of gliomas through a cross-scale Combined model, matching the model's classification metrics with patient risk stratification and exploring the underlying biological mechanisms. Methods This study retrospectively collected preoperative MRI, postoperative whole-slide pathological images, molecular markers, and clinical data from 456 adult diffuse glioma patients. We separately constructed an MRI habitat prediction model, a WSI Transformer-based deep learning pathomics (PDL) model, and a Combined model. A d

Synergistic Antitumor Effects and Reduced Systemic Toxicity of Berberine Chloride Combined With Cisplatin in a Female BALB/c Mouse Xenograft Model. ↗
Breast cancer, especially triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), remains a significant clinical challenge due to limited treatment options, chemoresistance, and the toxic side effects of standard chemotherapy. Cisplatin (Cis) is commonly used but faces limitations from resistance and dose-related toxicity. Berberine chloride (BRB), a natural alkaloid derived from Berberis vulgaris, shows promising anticancer effects. This study examined the antitumor activity and chemosensitizing potential of BRB combined with Cis. We initially examined the effects of BRB and Cis on murine 4T1 breast cancer cel

Runs of Homozygosity and Signatures of Positive Selection in Colombian Native American Populations: Genetic Architecture and Demographic History. ↗
Objectives Runs of homozygosity (ROHs) are suitable for studying population demographic history. This study analyzed whole-genome patterns of homozygosity and natural selection in Colombian indigenous populations to identify their role in population structure and demographic history. Materials and methods Individuals from four indigenous groups (Nasa, Pijao, Wayuu, and Emberá) were genotyped using an array of 758,740 SNPs. ROH distribution across the genome and signatures of selection were characterized and compared with reference populations. Results Colombian Native Americans showed a popula

Genomic Detection of Multidrug-Resistant H58 ST1 Salmonella Typhi in a South African Urban Waterway Reveals Epidemiological Links With Clinical Isolates. ↗
Typhoid fever remains a major public health concern in South Africa. However, the role of urban waterways as environmental reservoirs and contributors to the spread of resistant Salmonella Typhi remains poorly understood. This study characterized four S. Typhi isolates recovered from the Jukskei River in Johannesburg, South Africa, using whole-genome sequencing. Genomic DNA was extracted and sequenced on the Illumina NextSeq. 2000 platform, and assembled genomes were analyzed for sequence types (STs), AMR determinants, plasmids, virulence factors, and phylogenetic relatedness using 124 clinica

Water Table and Vegetation Shape Peatland CO 2 and CH 4 Fluxes With Water Table Modulating Temperature Sensitivity. ↗
Peatland rewetting can reduce CO 2 loss but increase CH 4 emissions. How vegetation shapes this trade-off and how the water table modifies temperature sensitivity remain unclear. We analysed 14,643 observations from 285 peatland sites. CH 4 emissions increased more steeply with rising water-table level (WTL) under graminoid dominance, while the pattern of declining ecosystem respiration differed between vegetation classes. Combined CO 2 -equivalent emissions (GHGE; respiration + CH 4 at GWP 100 = 28) declined by 73.9% as WTL rose from 60 cm below to 15 cm above the peat surface and were still

Brain Penetrant Calcium Channel Blockers Were Not Associated With Reduced Alcohol Consumption: Converging Results From Two Large Independent Cohort Studies Using Electronic Health Records. ↗
Purpose Alcohol use disorder (AUD) remains a major public health problem, with few effective treatments. L-type calcium channel blockers (LTCCBs) have genetic and preclinical support as potential treatments for AUD. Methods We evaluated whether brain penetrant (BP)-LTCCBs are associated with reduced alcohol consumption in two preregistered observational cohort studies using electronic health records from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC). New users of BP-LTCCBs (nifedipine or felodipine) were compared with new users of a non-BP-LTCCB (a

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
