THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

Therapeutic Potential of Pioglitazone in a Propionic Acid-Induced Rat Model of Autism Spectrum Disorder: The Role of the SIRT1/PPAR-γ Axis. ↗

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social communication deficits and repetitive behaviours. Emerging evidence highlights neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in its pathogenesis. Propionic acid (PPA), an enteric short-chain fatty acid, is frequently utilized to replicate ASD-like phenotypes in rodents. This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy of pioglitazone, a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) agonist known for its neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties, in a PPA-induc

Development of a New Bioadhesive Gel in the Prevention of Bacterial Biofilms on Dental Implants: An In Vitro Study. ↗

Objectives Peri-implantitis is a reality that clinicians face in their daily practice. Current evidence discusses the applicability of bacteriostatic or bactericidal methods in order to minimize the colonization of bacteria, which entails controversy. In this scenario there arises a need to develop surfaces that minimize bacteria's appetite for them. Methods An in vitro microbiological study was conducted to assess the effect of a chlorhexidine-based bioadhesive gel on the growth and adhesion of a simplified peri-implantitis-associated microbial consortium. Grade IV titanium disks with three s

Quinoa and Peanut Extracts as Alternatives to Animal-Derived Extracellular Matrix Proteins in Cultured Meat Production. ↗

Cultured meat, produced through the cultivation of animal cells, represents a sustainable and ethical alternative to traditional livestock farming. The cultivation and expansion of animal cells for cultured meat production rely heavily on extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, which are needed for cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. However, common ECM components such as gelatin, collagen, vitronectin, and Matrigel are mainly derived from animal sources, raising ethical concerns and sustainability issues. In this study, we used in silico analysis to identify edible plant-derived p

SUN11602 Accelerates Early Peripheral Nerve Regeneration in an Experimental Median Nerve Transection Model. ↗

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is one of the common life-altering disabilities resulting in various degrees of impairment in movement and sensation alongside apraxia and long-lasting pain. The gold standard for restoring the transected nerves is bridging the distal and proximal ends of disrupted autologous nerve using neurosurgical sutures. This approach is helpful, however nerve bridging is valid in pay of consuming healthy nerves and scarring phenomena in damaged site besides difficult donor nerve accessibility and extra surgery is required. Many studies have demonstrated that bFGF plays a pi

Charting the Normal Development of Structural Brain Connectivity in Utero Using Diffusion MRI. ↗

Understanding the structural connectivity of the human brain during fetal life is critical for uncovering the early foundations of neural function and vulnerability to developmental disorders. Diffusion-weighted MRI (dMRI) enables non-invasive mapping of white matter pathways and construction of the brain's structural connectome, but its application to the fetal brain has been limited by data scarcity and technical difficulties in analyzing fetal dMRI data. Here, we present the largest study to date of in utero brain connectivity, analyzing high-quality dMRI data from 198 fetuses between 22 an

Hepatocyte Growth Hormone Receptor Ablation Is Associated With Aging Phenotypes and Hepatic Mitochondrial Dysfunction. ↗

Aging drives physiological decline and predisposes individuals to multiple age-related pathologies, constituting a major global health challenge. Growth hormone receptor (GHR), a critical regulator of growth, development, and metabolism, has emerged as a potential therapeutic target. However, its precise role in aging and age-related diseases remains incompletely defined. Here, we demonstrate that hepatocyte-specific GHR knockout mice display accelerated aging-related phenotypes, characterized by shortened lifespan, enhanced cellular senescence, reduced metabolic stress resilience, cognitive d
