Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1608 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Passive polarization stabilization for robust entanglement distribution via cross-aligned polarization maintaining fiber pairs ↗

Maintaining stable entanglement distribution through perturbed fiber links is essential for practical quantum-optics experiments, yet it remains challenging because of polarization fluctuations and phase or temporal-delay variations. We demonstrate stable entangled-photon transmission using a cross-aligned polarization-maintaining fiber (CAPMF) structure composed of two polarization-maintaining fiber sections with mutually orthogonal principal axes. The CAPMF configuration passively compensates polarization fluctuations without real-time active polarization control. We theoretically analyze th…

Scoping review of methodology for aiding generalisability and transportability of clinical prediction models ↗

Abstract Background Generalisability and transportability of clinical prediction models (CPMs) refer to their ability to maintain predictive performance when applied to new populations. While CPMs may show good generalisability or transportability to a specific new population, it is rare for a CPM to be developed using methods that prioritise good generalisability or transportability. There is an emerging literature of such techniques; therefore, this scoping review aims to summarise the main methodological approaches, assumptions, advantages, disadvantages and future development of methodolog…

Physics-Informed Nonlinear Vector Autoregressive Models for the Prediction of Dynamical Systems ↗

Abstract. Machine learning techniques have recently been of great interest for solving differential equations. Training these models is classically a data-fitting task, but knowledge of the expression of the differential equation can be used to supplement the training objective, leading to the development of physics-informed scientific machine learning. In this article, we focus on one class of models called nonlinear vector autoregression (NVAR) to solve ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Motivated by connections to numerical integration and physics-informed neural networks, we explicitl…

From morphological modules to lineage-derived subindividuals: integrating phenotypic, epigenetic and genetic differentiation in plants. ↗

Harper's (1977) framing of the plant as a population of semi-autonomous modules remains foundational but predates genomic tools able to test the genetic identity of individual modules. Two further literatures address within-plant heterogeneity largely in parallel: a genetic-mosaicism literature (Gill et al., 1995; Reusch et al., 2021) showing that somatic mutations accumulate within plants, and a subindividual-variation literature (Herrera, 2009; Sobral and Sampedro, 2022) documenting functional consequences of within-plant phenotypic and epigenetic diversity. We bridge these bodies of work wi

    Transposon-Induced Paramutation in Maize. ↗

Paramutation is an interaction of alleles resulting in heritable gene silencing, but the molecular events that initiate paramutation are largely unknown. We observed unexpected silencing of the maize P1-rr gene by p1 alleles containing two nearby Ac/fAc transposable elements. A panel of derivative alleles containing these paired Ac/fAc elements with different Inter Transposon Segments (ITS) were tested for their silencing ability; two cases exhibit strong and frequent silencing. Both alleles retain small overlapping segments (3748 and 3815 bp) of the p1 5'regulatory region, including sequences

Doing the groundwork at home, working through it together: patient experiences of blended cognitive therapy for PTSD in routine care. ↗

There is limited access to evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in routine care. Therefore, scalable and resource-efficient treatment formats that are effective and acceptable are needed. We developed a blended format of cognitive therapy for PTSD, combining online modules with a limited number of therapy sessions, to improve resource efficiency, while maintaining the benefits of in-person therapy. This study aimed to explore patients' experiences of blended trauma-focused cognitive therapy (bTF-CT) in routine care. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11

Association of a Han Chinese urticaria-derived polygenic risk score with chronic spontaneous urticaria susceptibility and advanced systemic treatment use. ↗

Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is a heterogeneous mast cell-driven disease with variable treatment needs, but the clinical relevance of Han Chinese urticaria-derived polygenic risk scores (PRSs) remains unclear. To evaluate the associations between Han Chinese urticaria-derived PRSs, CSU susceptibility, and advanced systemic treatment use. We conducted a retrospective case-control study using Taiwan Precision Medicine Initiative participants at Taichung Veterans General Hospital. CSU cases and matched controls were identified using diagnostic codes and electronic medical records. Five urt

Artificial intelligence in orthopaedics should be built with surgeons, not just for them! ↗

Surgical artificial intelligence (AI) is typically validated on one patient population and then deployed unchanged into another, without surgeon input into its design. AI in orthopaedics should be built with surgeons, not simply for them: Surgeons should hold shared authority over the clinical question, data curation, validation, implementation, monitoring and retirement of any tool they use. Specialty-tuned models outperform general-purpose systems on some tasks, but the margin is modest and likely to narrow as generalist models improve. The more durable distinction is who controls the update

Lactobacillus reuteri ATG-F4 alleviates behavioral impairment induced by chronic stress. ↗

Chronic stress impairs quality of life by disturbing physical and psychological functioning, and increases susceptibility to a wide range of diseases. Lactobacillus reuteri ATG-F4 isolated from the fecal samples of a newborn baby alleviated chronic stress-induced anhedonia by altering the expression of neurometabolites and neurotransmitter receptors. In this study, we examined whether ATG-F4 can improve behavioral deterioration induced by chronic stress using the Laboratory Animal Behavioral Observation Registration and Analysis System (LABORAS). The continuous behavior of the mice was examine

Host Genetic Variation Is Associated with Root-Associated Microbiome Assembly and Resistance to Fusarium oxysporum in Tobacco. ↗

Plant-microbe interactions are essential for plant health, yet the genetic basis of host control over root-associated microbiome assembly in Nicotiana tabacum remains unclear. We integrated whole-genome resequencing, amplicon sequencing, and metabolomics across 50 tobacco cultivars, together with microbial genome-wide association and mediation analyses, to investigate host-microbiome covariation. Host genotype significantly influenced the diversity and composition of root-associated microbial communities, particularly in the rhizosphere. Several host loci were associated with heritable microbi

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
