THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1618 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Mass and functionality based exergy analysis of different rapeseed protein production routes ↗
Rapeseed proteins are among the outstanding plant-based proteins due to their favorable interfacial functionality. This study evaluates the resource use of the most common rapeseed protein production routes – acidic precipitation, ultrafiltration and wet mild fractionation – using an exergy-based approach. The exergy consumption is normalized based on both product mass and protein functionality. Mass-based assessment indicates that the routes producing dry rapeseed protein concentrate exhibit relatively low exergy efficiencies (12.3 – 20.7%), mainly due to production of a single useful stream…

A Pilot Head-to-Head Comparison of Two Bisulfite Conversion Kits for NGS-Based DNA Methylation Analysis of Liquid Biopsy Samples from Colorectal Cancer ↗
Given the important role of early detection in improving cancer outcomes, epigenetic alterations, particularly DNA methylation, have emerged as powerful biomarkers for cancer screening and diagnosis. However, methylation profiling of cfDNA (circulating free DNA) presents particular technical challenges because cfDNA is typically present at very low concentrations and is highly fragmented. Bisulfite conversion, although essential for distinguishing methylated from unmethylated cytosines, can further compromise DNA integrity through chemical-induced loss of DNA during purification steps. Inadequ…

NetSyn: prokaryotic genomic context exploration of protein families ↗
Background . The growing availability of large prokaryotic genomic datasets presents an opportunity to discover new metabolic pathways and enzymatic reactions useful for industrial or synthetic biological applications. Efforts to identify new enzyme functions in this vast number of sequences cannot be achieved without bioinformatics tools and the development of new strategies. Standard methods for assigning a biological function to a gene are based on sequence similarity. However, complementary approaches rely on mining databases to identify conserved gene clusters (e.g., syntenies). In prokar…

DONSON-Associated MISSLA with Co-Occurring p.Arg442Ter and p.Lys489Thr Variants: Longitudinal Clinical and Genomic Characterization ↗
Background: Microcephaly, short stature, and limb abnormalities syndrome (MISSLA) is an ultra-rare developmental disorder associated with biallelic DONSON variation and characterized by prenatal-onset growth restriction, congenital microcephaly, variable skeletal abnormalities, and neurodevelopmental impairment. We describe the longitudinal clinical and genomic features of an Ecuadorian child with a phenotype highly compatible with DONSON-associated MISSLA. Methods: This retrospective longitudinal case report included clinical information from the prenatal period through February 2026. Serial…

Knowledge-grounded multimodal cognitive decision-making for aerospace machining: A physics-aware reasoning framework for generative process planning of special-shaped features ↗
Complex aerospace products encompass numerous special-shaped features (SSFs), whose machining processes rely on highly customized process planning. Traditional data-driven discriminative models predominantly operate as physics-agnostic "black boxes." Moreover, applying general-purpose Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) to manufacturing often causes "physical hallucinations", generating linguistically plausible but mechanically infeasible process plans. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a Knowledge-Grounded Multimodal Cognitive Framework (KGMCF), which extends discriminative feature…

Adipose tissue dysfunction in obesity and type 2 diabetes: the role of DNA methylation linking adipogenesis to metabolic disease ↗
Abstract Adipose tissue plasticity, sustained by the recruitment and differentiation of adipocyte precursor cells (APCs), is a key determinant of metabolic health. Failure of this adaptive program, rather than fat mass per se, represents an early contributing factor in the progression toward insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Increasing evidence identifies impaired APC function and premature cellular senescence as central mechanistic drivers of adipose tissue dysfunction. In this context, the interplay between DNA methylation and cellular senescence emerges as a central axis li…

Building an ‘epigenetic clock’: utilizing whole genome DNA methylation patterns to predict age in haddock, Melanogrammus aeglefinus ↗
Age-based population models are a gold standard approach to estimate stock size and sustainable catch recommendations for effective fisheries management. Traditional ageing by counting annuli on their ear stones (otoliths), is labor-intensive, lethal, and can be inaccurate for long-lived fishes. In this study, we present an accurate, non-lethal epigenetic clock method for predicting age in haddock, Melanogrammus aeglefinus , one of the most valuable commercial fisheries in the north Atlantic Ocean. Pectoral fin tissue ( n = 140 individuals) was collected during Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 bottom…

Whole-genome resequencing reveals genetic diversity, population structure, and selection signatures in tibetan yak ↗
The Tibetan yak is a keystone species in the Tibetan Plateau ecosystem. It serves as a vital source of livelihood for local herders and also represents a distinctive model for studying biological adaptation mechanisms to extreme high-altitude environments. The Xizang region harbors abundant genetic resources of yak. In recent years, superior genetic resources such as the Chawula yak (CWL), Jila yak (JL), and Niangya yak (NY) have been identified, showing unique germplasm characteristics. However, the genomic basis of their distinct genetic features and the differences among these populations h…

A novel transient zero-dimensional physics-based model of vanadium redox flow batteries with electrolyte crossover-induced capacity fade ↗
Conventional lumped models of vanadium redox flow batteries (VRBs) typically neglect bulk electrolyte transfer because its effects are often insignificant over short time scales. This simplification, however, prevents accurate representation of electrolyte crossover-induced volume imbalance and the associated capacity fade, limiting their applicability to performance prediction and control. This paper presents a novel transient zero-dimensional (0-D) physics-based VRB model that explicitly considers electrolyte migration mechanisms derived from first principles. The model corrects the convecti…

Genome-wide genetic overlap analysis of the genetic contribution shared between stroke and trouble falling asleep, with cross-ethnic validation ↗
Stroke is among the leading causes of death and disability. Trouble falling asleep is a common sleep-related problem. Epidemiological studies show a correlation, but the genetic mechanisms remain unclear. We combined large-scale GWAS summary statistics with clinical cohort data from an Asian population for validation, and used the MiXeR model to assess the polygenic overlap between the two traits. CondFDR/conjFDR analyses were used to identify novel loci, and then these were validated by multivariable logistic regression and TWAS. The results indicated that there was substantial overlap in pol…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
