THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1586 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Structural basis of stepwise G protein activation by the viral chemokine receptor US28 ↗
Abstract G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) govern diverse cellular responses and are crucial drug targets. However, the sequence of structural events from G protein recognition to GDP release has remained elusive. Here, we leveraged the viral chemokine GPCR US28 to capture multiple activation states of the US28-G q complex. Using cryo-electron microscopy and an engineered chemokine superagonist, we determined three distinct complex structures, capturing a GDP-bound Encounter state, the nucleotide-free Canonical state, and a putative intermediate bridging the two states, the Transition-to-Can…

mRNA lipid nanoparticle vaccines: current status, challenges and future prospects ↗
Abstract mRNA vaccines have become a clinically validated vaccine platform, as demonstrated by the success of COVID-19 vaccines such as Comirnaty and Spikevax, owing to their rapid design, manufacturing scalability, and capacity to induce in situ antigen expression. A key factor underlying this success is the lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system, which protects mRNA from degradation and promotes efficient cellular uptake and cytoplasmic delivery, thereby enabling the full potential of mRNA technology. The continued advancement of mRNA-LNP vaccines requires integrated optimization of mRNA d…

Targeting a miRNA–mRNA regulatory network to overcome radioresistance in head and neck cancer: identification of I-OMe-AG-538 via transcriptome-guided drug repurposing ↗
Abstract Radioresistance is a major obstacle to successful radiotherapy in head and neck cancer (HNC), leading to treatment failure, recurrence, and poor patient outcomes. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are key post-transcriptional regulators implicated in radiosensitivity, but comprehensive miRNA–mRNA networks driving radioresistance in HNC remain poorly defined. Here, we established isogenic radioresistant (RR) sublines from OECM1 and Detroit HNC cells through long-term fractionated irradiation and performed global miRNA profiling to identify a consistent 25-miRNA signature (12 upregulated oncogenic miR…

Automating clinical information retrieval from Finnish electronic health records using large language models ↗
Abstract Clinicians often need to search for patient-specific information within electronic health records (EHRs) containing years of heterogeneous longitudinal documentation, a task that can be time-consuming, cognitively demanding, and prone to oversight. We evaluated 14 locally deployable open-source large language models for structured patient-specific clinical information retrieval using a dataset comprising 1664 expert-annotated question–answer pairs from EHR-derived records of 183 Finnish patients undergoing breast cancer screening, diagnosis, or treatment under fully offline conditions…

Recent Updates in Chromatographic Techniques for Development of Drugs and Clinical Biomarkers ↗
Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) have attracted attention as versatile nanomaterials because of their unique physical, chemical and therapeutic properties quite different to those of bulk copper. Copper at the nanoscale possesses improved surface reactivity, redox activity and tunable optical and electrical properties that enable various technological and biomedical applications. This review includes a comprehensive summary of the physical aspects of CuNPs: size- and shape-dependent properties, crystallinity, optical response and thermal/electrical conductivities. Furthermore, the chemical propert…

On the physics of higher condensation defects ↗
A bstract We study the structure of topological defects for finite Abelian symmetries in quantum field theories, and argue on physical grounds that they satisfy the definition of a higher fusion category proposed by Johnson-Freyd. Our primary focus is on the requirement of Karoubi completeness, i.e. the factorization conditions on higher condensation defects. We demonstrate this on a tree of such defects, constructed by successive higher gauging, explicitly using Lagrangian techniques in a concrete four-dimensional example, before turning to more general field theories. Along the way we also c…

Improving entanglement resilience in quantum memories with error-detection-based distillation ↗
The degradation of entanglement in quantum memories due to decoherence is a critical challenge for scalable quantum networks. We present an entanglement distillation protocol based on the [[4, 2, 2]] quantum error-detecting code, deriving analytical expressions for its output fidelity and yield, and benchmarking it against the BBPSSW protocol. In addition to single-round performance, we further examine the iterative behavior of both protocols through multi-round fidelity and cumulative yield analysis. We then investigate a storage-stage recovery strategy in which the retained logical entangled…

Regional climate risk assessment from climate models using probabilistic machine learning ↗
Abstract Effective climate risk assessment is hindered by the resolution gap between coarse global climate models and the fine-scale information needed for regional decision making. Existing downscaling methods struggle to bridge this gap: physics-based methods are too computationally expensive for large ensemble sampling of extreme events, while traditional statistical methods fail to capture multivariate spatiotemporal dependencies crucial to compound risk estimation. Furthermore, current machine learning approaches rely on temporally aligned training pairs, which are unavailable for free-ru…

Banana pseudostem-derived hydrochar mitigates aluminum oxide nanoparticle toxicity to microalgae: implications for sustainable phosphate binder application in contaminated waters. ↗
Aluminum oxide nanoparticles (Al 2 O 3 ) are used as a phosphate binder for controlling harmful cyanobacterial blooms in waters; however, concerns related to their toxic effects on non-target microalgae limit their long-term field application. In the present study, banana pseudostem-derived hydrochar was combined with Al 2 O 3 to form a composite (HCAL). The hydrochar and Al 2 O 3 concentrations in HCAL (0.5:2) were selected based on preliminary dosage-optimization trials. Then, toxicity assessment was done by exposing pre-grown microalgae Graesiella emersonii MN877773 at three concentrations

Children's Oral Narrative Skills Through the Lens of Internal State Terms: A Large-Scale Study of Fictional Stories Elicited With the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives. ↗
Purpose This article investigates the development of oral narrative skills in children through the lens of internal states in a large cross-linguistic data set of comparable fictional stories. Method In a joint effort of research groups around the world, 5,507 picture-based stories were elicited from 2,763 monolingual and bilingual typically developing (TD) children aged 3-13 years in 32 countries across 44 languages with the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives (MAIN; Gagarina et al., 2019). These were transcribed and coded for internal state terms (ISTs) that express story chara

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
