THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1620 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Quantum Diffusion Models for Medical Image Analysis ↗

Quantum Machine Learning is a novel field of research aimed at devising machine learning approaches exploiting principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition, entanglement and interference. In this context, we present a scalable hybrid Quantum Diffusion Model, and evaluate its use for medical image analysis. Specifically, our method is based on a Discrete-Time Quantum Walk algorithm, executed on a real quantum device, to model the forward dynamics of the diffusion model. For the backward step of the diffusion model, we devise and evaluate a classical learning model, which is used to re…

Mechanism-Aware Ensemble Conditioning for Data-Limited Emulation of Extreme Events ↗

Extreme events in chaotic systems are difficult to learn from short trajectories because they are controlled by transient finite-time instability rather than by frequently observed bulk dynamics. We propose a mechanism-aware conditioning plug-in framework that turns a nudged coarse ensemble into a non-intrusive sensor of local instability geometry. In the small-noise regime, the ensemble covariance aggregates the same finite-time deformation kernels that govern local instability, providing a Jacobian-free proxy for the local amplification structure around a synchronized coarse trajectory. A sm…

On the Limits of Univariate Deep Learning for Significant Wave Height Forecasting ↗

This study conducts a systematic hyperparameter search across five deep learning architectures, DLinear, LSTM, PatchTST, ResAttLstm, and Mamba2, and nine context lengths (1-168 h) for single-station significant wave height (Hs) forecasting on NDBC buoy 41009, followed by re-evaluation of the best configurations on a 47-buoy, 37-year corpus. The five families converge to a common performance level on the multi-buoy evaluation (between-family SD = 0.0014 m^2, 0.8% of the grand mean), a spread dwarfed by the 4.83x cross-dataset MSE shift between buoy corpora. All multi-buoy trials beat persistenc…

Mutations in SUMO conjugating enzyme reveal contributions of sumoylation to plant stress resilience and yield ↗

Small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO) conjugation is a fundamental process in all metazoa, with multiple roles in development and stress responses. In Arabidopsis thaliana and many other dicots, the SUMO conjugating enzyme (SCE) is a single-copy gene, making it a linchpin in all transcriptional and posttranscriptional processes influenced by sumoylation. Loss of function of Arabidopsis SCE1 is lethal, but we were able to generate a hypomorphic (decrease-of-function; sce1-100) and a hypermorphic (increase-of-function; SCE1 K28R) allele of this gene. The hypomorphic allele has traits in common…

Clinical and toxicological trends in mad honey research ↗

BACKGROUND: Honey derived from the nectar of Rhododendron species, known as "mad honey," possesses unique pharmacological and toxicological properties due to its grayanotoxin content. Prior investigations have largely comprised case reports and experimental studies, lacking a comprehensive overview of broader scientific trends. The present study addresses this gap by providing the first bibliometric analysis of the historical development, thematic directions, and scientific structure of the "mad honey" literature published between 1954 and 2025. METHODS: Data for this retrospective bibliometri…

Stem cell-derived brain repair for Parkinson’s disease: a review of strategies to improve engraftment ↗

Abstract Induced pluripotent stem cell-derived dopaminergic progenitor transplantation has received conditional approval in Japan for Parkinson’s disease following the Kyoto Phase I/II trial. Early clinical studies demonstrate favourable safety and preliminary efficacy, but interpretation is limited by open-label designs. Preclinical evidence reveals variable graft survival and low differentiation efficiency, highlighting opportunities for optimisation. This review examines strategies to improve survival, differentiation, and functional integration of transplanted dopaminergic progenitors.

Clinical characteristics of microbiologically inappropriate empiric antibiotics in emergency department patients with bacteremia ↗

Septic patients frequently receive empiric antibiotics before microbiological results are available, and some regimens fail to cover the eventual causative pathogen. Such microbiologically inappropriate empiric therapy has been associated with worse clinical outcomes; however, the patterns and contributing circumstances leading to these mismatches in real-world emergency care remain insufficiently described. We conducted a single-center retrospective study of adult patients with bacteremia who received empiric intravenous antibiotics in a Japanese emergency department from January to December…

Rapid genome-wide purging following tsunami-induced hybridization in a stickleback population ↗

Speciation is the process by which barriers to gene flow evolve between populations. As speciation approaches completion, genome-wide divergence can be maintained in the face of hybridization. Because real-time observations of genomic changes following hybridization in natural populations remain rare, little is known about the processes and mechanisms by which introgressed genomes are purged in nature. Here we report a 9-year genomic monitoring of a tsunami-induced hybrid stickleback population, revealing rapid genome-wide purging within only a few generations. On 11 March 2011, a devastating…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
