THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Science
Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗1647 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Fish Reproductive Biology and Embryogenesis ↗
Over millions of years of evolution, fish have developed a diverse array of reproductive strategies including many alternative physiological, morphological, and behavioral tactics, as well as distinct patterns of embryonic and larval development, which have allowed them to successfully reproduce and survive [...]

Molecular basis of DNA polymerase ζ’s reverse transcriptase activity ↗
DNA polymerase ζ (Polζ) has emerged as a key reverse transcriptase in RNA-templated double-strand break repair (RT-DSBR), beyond its canonical role in translesion DNA synthesis (TLS). We present here the cryo-EM structure of yeast Polζ (including Rev1) in the act of reverse transcription, wherein the polymerase molds the replicative end of the bound RNA:DNA hybrid into B-like conformation and retains most contacts seen with DNA:DNA. Critically, the polymerase adopts the same conformation as with DNA:DNA, indicating its inherent versatility in accommodating both DNA:DNA and RNA:DNA substrates t…

Polymerization degree-driven impact on digestive enzyme inhibition by proanthocyanidins: mechanistic insights ↗
This work aimed to investigate the inhibitory mechanisms of proanthocyanidins (PAs) with different polymerization degrees (DP) against pepsin, trypsin, lipase, and α -amylase, using enzyme inhibition and kinetic assays, turbidity, fluorescence, FTIR, CD, and SEM analyses. Results showed a significant positive correlation between mDP ranging from 1 to 12 and the inhibitory efficacy against the four enzymes, with the potency order being trypsin ≈ lipase ≈ α -amylase > pepsin. PA-enzyme interactions exhibited multi-site binding mediated by electrostatic interactions, with mixed-type inhibition fo…

Epidemiological, Genomic and In Vitro Insights into the Clinical Significance of Yersinia enterocolitica Biotype 1A ↗
Yersiniosis is a notifiable disease in Aotearoa|New Zealand, which includes Yersinia enterocolitica (YE) Biotype (BT) 1A, whose pathogenicity and clinical significance has been questioned. An analysis of yersiniosis cases with different YE biotypes (BTs) notified between 2018 and 2022 identified that YE BT 1A and YE BT 2/3 were more frequently observed among adults of European or Other ethnicity and young children of Asian ethnicity, respectively. A comparison of virulence-associated genes detected using whole-genome sequencing data from YE isolates confirmed that YE BT 1A lacked several recog…

Heat shock protein genes Hsp70 and DnaJA1 are key contributors to thermotolerance and development in predatory ladybeetle Propylaea japonica ↗
Global climate change has increased the frequency of extreme high-temperature events, underscoring the need to elucidate thermotolerance mechanisms in natural enemy insects for effective biological control. The ladybird Propylaea japonica is a predominant predator in South-East Asia and a successful biocontrol agent, yet the molecular basis of its heat resistance remains unknown. Here we cloned full-length cDNAs of three heat shock protein genes (pjhsp70, pjDnaJA1, and pjhsp21) from P. japonica using transcriptomic data. We characterized their sequences, inferred phylogenetic relationships, an…

A cross-species atlas platform for comparative neuroscience in teleost fish ↗
Abstract Uncovering general principles connecting neural circuits to behaviour requires comparative brain analyses across species. To advance these efforts, we developed a standardised workflow and a unified brain atlas platform for the quantitative comparison of neural structures between two teleost larvae, medaka ( Oryzias latipes ) and zebrafish ( Danio rerio ). Crucially, the platform seamlessly integrates user-generated image volumes, facilitating quantitative comparisons of anatomical, transcriptional, and functional data across species and laboratories. Utilising these integrated tools,…

Clinical value of artificial intelligence computer-aided diagnosis system in lymph node ultrasonography ↗
This article explores the clinical value of the artificial intelligence computer-aided diagnosis system in the diagnosis of superficial lymph nodes. In this study, characteristic ultrasonic parameters of 185 cases of lymph nodes (including 110 benign and 75 malignant) confirmed by pathology were quantified by the superficial lymphadenopathy computer-aided diagnosis system, including margin, appearance, medulla proportion, medulla distribution, echogenicity, echogeneity, vascular density, and vascular pattern. A nonparametric rank sum test was used between the parameters. The sensitivity, speci…

Alcohol and E-Cigarettes Activate P2X7R in Lung Epithelial Cells, Stimulating Release of Plasminogen Activator in Extracellular Vesicles, Injuring Blood-Brain Barrier ↗
Chronic alcohol and nicotine exposure can increase susceptibility to lung injury and promote the release of extracellular ATP (eATP). Elevated eATP activates the purinergic P2X7 receptor (P2X7R), a membrane ion channel that amplifies inflammatory signaling and promotes extracellular vesicle (EV) release. These EVs may serve as mediators of lung to systemic communications. Proteomic analysis of lung epithelial cell-derived EVs revealed enrichment of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), a key enzyme involved in extracellular matrix remodeling. Treatment of hPAEpiCs with ETH, acetaldehyde…

Predicting Angle Beam Ultrasonic Inspection Signals with a Physics-Informed Neural Network ↗
Simulation of angle beam ultrasonic inspection supports procedure qualification, probe design, and defect detectability studies, but conventional solvers require a conforming mesh for each configuration and return the solution only at mesh nodes and discrete time steps. Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) have been applied to ultrasonic wave propagation, but existing formulations solve the wave equation within the propagation medium alone and impose the excitation as a prescribed surface source. The quantity an inspector actually measures; the voltage returned at the transducer terminal;…

Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Early Disease Detection Across Modalities: A Comprehensive Review of Methods, Applications, and Clinical Translation ↗
Early disease detection is not a single classification problem. It includes population screening, presymptomatic risk estimation, identification of early pathological change, and detection of disease before conventional clinical recognition. Machine learning and deep learning systems approach these targets through medical images, physiological signals, longitudinal health records, molecular measurements, wearable sensors, and multimodal combinations. This survey organizes the evidence around the complete decision pathway linking the clinical target, data generation process, preprocessing, repr…

How to assess evidence about Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
