THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1682 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Decoder Model Compatibility Provides Information beyond the Logical Gap under Drifting and Correlated Quantum Noise ↗

Quantum error-correcting decoders provide both corrections and confidence estimates for the logical-error risk of individual measurement records. Such confidence can guide postselection, but it depends on the accuracy of the decoder noise model. When the physical device drifts away from that model, confidence measures such as the logical gap can become miscalibrated. We show that this mismatch can itself provide useful information. On IBM quantum hardware, syndrome statistics drift across consecutive acquisition windows, and the resulting detector histories differ substantially from those pred…

On the numerical limitations of dual Koopman von Neumann embeddings for solving conservative nonlinear ordinary differential equations on quantum computers ↗

The simulation of nonlinear ordinary differential equations on quantum computers is inherently challenging, as quantum gates are linear operators on qubit states. In this paper, we put forth a Koopman-von Neumann (KvN) operator based algorithm for solving nonlinear ordinary differential equations on a quantum computer which overcomes the innate limitations of quantum operations. In this approach, a Liouville probability density is embedded into a wavefunction, the evolution of which is governed by an operator dual to the Koopman operator. The trajectories corresponding to the nonlinear differe…

Exact solution of a boundary-driven transverse-field Ising model with hidden time-reversal symmetry ↗

The dissipative transverse-field Ising (TFI) model provides a paradigmatic setting for nonequilibrium quantum many-body physics. We show that a class of boundary-driven TFI models subject to dissipation at only one boundary possesses hidden time-reversal symmetry, which enables an exact construction of their nonequilibrium steady states. The solution admits a matrix-product representation and defines a nonequilibrium partition function from which steady-state observables can be evaluated efficiently. We use the exact solution to characterize the microscopic structure of the steady state throug…

PFArena: Benchmarking Language Models for Protein Modification ↗

Protein modification requires navigating an immense sequence space, yet wet-lab validation remains low-throughput and costly. Although computational paradigms including protein language models (PLMs), large language models (LLMs), and LLM-based agents have shown promise in protein modification, their relative efficacy across realistic experimental decision-making settings remains unclear. To bridge this gap, we introduce PFArena, a benchmark comprising four controlled task interfaces that cover single-mutant generation and multi-mutant ranking. By providing varying levels of mutation fitness d…

Dense pentacene cocrystal demonstrates room-temperature coherent control ↗

Maximizing the number of addressable spins within a fixed volume can improve ensemble quantum sensor sensitivity, but dense packing usually increases dipolar interactions and excited-state transport, shortening coherence and suppressing optical readout. Here we report a 2:1 cocrystal of 6,13-dihydropentacene and pentacene (DHP/Pc) containing 33.3 mol% pentacene ($3.3\times10^{5}$ ppm; $9.51\times10^{20}$ cm$^{-3}$), a volumetric spin-site density more than two orders of magnitude above previous benchmarks, NV-diamond and pentacene-doped p-terphenyl (PDP). Despite this density, DHP/Pc exhibits…

A Quantum Circuit for Gaussian Elimination ↗

A quantum circuit for Gaussian elimination is developed in this work. While previous quantum implementations of Gaussian elimination were restricted to $\mathrm{GF}(2)$, the proposed design is generalized to any finite field. Compared with previous works in $\mathrm{GF}(2)$, the developed circuit achieves garbage-free construction while retaining the best known asymptotic Toffoli depth up to logarithmic factors.

Characterization and Active Control of Position-Dependent Timing Dynamics in Superconducting Strip Detectors ↗

Superconducting strip single-photon detectors (SSPDs) have emerged as scalable, wide-strip variants of traditional nanowire counterparts. Despite practical advantages including improved optical fill factors and enhanced signal-to-noise ratios the fundamental detection physics governing these micro-scale geometries remains largely unexplored. Here, we investigate the underlying photoresponse of a 20 um-wide tungsten silicide SSPD, demonstrating a slew-rate-corrected timing jitter of 13.2 ps at 532 nm and 20.5 ps at 1550 nm, alongside saturated internal detection efficiency up to 1550 nm. Using…

Investigating Precursor Spatial Organization in Osteoclastogenesis Using DNA-Directed Cell Patterning ↗

Abstract Osteoclasts are large, multinucleated cells in the bone marrow that are of macrophage lineage and are responsible for bone resorption. Disruption of osteoclast differentiation or resorption activity can cause a broad spectrum of skeletal diseases ranging from osteoporosis to cancer-associated bone loss. Despite their key role in homeostasis, studying osteoclasts in vitro remains challenging, largely because no commercially available cell line exists. Consequently, in vitro studies rely on differentiation from precursor cells using osteoclastogenic factors. While prior studies have opt…

Surveillance of antibiotic-resistant bacteria integrating whole genome sequencing and epidemiological information – a global, systematic review, 2012–2023 ↗

Abstract Background Epidemiologic surveillance is one pillar in the global efforts to stop the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and increasingly includes whole genome sequencing (WGS). However, no review systematically examined the characteristics of such surveillance systems until February 2025. We conducted a systematic review to identify and describe routine surveillance systems of ARB, that integrate WGS and epidemiological information. Methods A protocol was developed and published on PROSPERO. We searched 8 databases and Google. Included articles needed to report on a nation…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
