Earlier sources: Neuroscience
This science thread follows neuroscience through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗24 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

DNA methylation differences between female and male X chromosomes in human brain ↗
Abstract Background DNA methylation is a key epigenetic mechanism of sex chromosome regulation. However, DNA methylation studies often exclude X chromosomes. Moreover, widely used DNA methylation assays interrogate biased subsets of CpGs, rather than assessing CpGs across the whole chromosome. Consequently, our understanding of X chromosome DNA methylation lags behind that of autosomes. Results Here we addressed this gap of knowledge by investigating X chromosome DNA methylation in 89 whole genome methylomes from neurons and oligodendrocytes. Using this unbiased and comprehensive data, we show…

Self-Exciting Population Event Models Reveal Abnormal Temporal Amplification in MAPT-Mutant Human Brain Assembloids ↗
Human brain assembloids provide a tractable platform for studying mutation-specific network dysfunction, but most studies do not distinguish whether abnormal activity arises from increased spontaneous initiation or stronger history-dependent amplification. We introduce a low-dimensional discrete-time self-exciting population model for calcium-imaging event sequences that separates baseline initiation (%[mu]), integrated history-dependent gain (%[eta]), and memory decay (%[tau]). Across 175 recordings from 13 MAPT p.R406W or CRISPR-corrected isogenic assembloids, biological-unit inference ident

Neuroscience-Informed Psychoeducation for Anxiety: Translating Brain–Behavior Models into Scalable Clinical Tools ↗
Advances in affective and systems neuroscience have clarified how distributed brain networks encode threat processing, generate bodily arousal, and shape cognitive and behavioral features of anxiety disorders. However, this progress has not been systematically translated into patient-facing educational tools or clinical care. Neuroscience-Informed Psychoeducation (NIPE) extends conventional psychoeducation by incorporating brain-based explanations of symptoms and treatment, while also structuring materials to engage attention, memory, and self-referential processing. Emerging work suggests NIP

CfDNA methylation profiling in blood following moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury using brain cell type–enriched signatures: A pilot study ↗
The human brain consists of diverse cell types that collaboratively perform complex functions and form intricate neuronal networks. When traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs, multiple molecular pathways involving diverse cell types are activated in response to injury. Understanding how brain cell composition is altered during TBI may help improve patient outcomes. Upon brain trauma, neurovascular disruption leads to the release of brain-derived cell-free DNA (cfDNA) into peripheral blood. The tissue-specific DNA methylation patterns in this cfDNA have the potential to serve as candidate markers…

Forging Sustainable Research: Integrating Sustainability into Neuroscience Education ↗
The health and wellbeing of living organisms and the environment are irrevocably interconnected. Animals constantly shape the environments in which they live, and environmental factors, in turn, shape the minds and behaviours of animals. The emerging discipline of environmental neuroscience studies this reciprocal interaction and offers a unique opportunity to integrate sustainability into undergraduate training. Here, we present and evaluate Forging Sustainable Research, an interdisciplinary undergraduate course that integrates teaching of neuroscience, biology, psychology, environmental scie

Attachment-Informed Leadership (AIL): A New Leadership Framework based on Attachment Theory and Social Neuroscience ↗
Leadership research has catalogued many styles, among them transformational, authentic and servant leadership, but has offered few accounts of the regulatory mechanisms through which leader-follower relationships operate. We propose that attachment, understood through social neuroscience, supplies one such mechanism. Humans regulate environmental demands relationally, and attachment organises this social regulation of a finite bioenergetic budget under challenge. When followers face threat, dependence or uncertainty, this relationship can come to serve attachment functions, and the leader's re

Attention in model-based cognitive neuroscience: Mechanisms for optimization under constraint ↗
Two major criticisms of attention research are: 1) verbal theories lack the specificity to make falsifiable predictions about how the various mechanisms of attention operate; and 2) the term ``attention’’ is frequently ascribed to conceptually similar phenomena despite dissociable neural underpinnings. The field of model-based cognitive neuroscience is well-positioned to address (1) through mathematical formalization of hypothesized processes, but may perpetuate (2) insofar as similar algorithms and parameters may recur across modeling traditions without necessarily drawing upon a shared neuro

Simultaneous T 1 and T 2 Mapping in the Brain With QuantoRAGE: An MP2RAGE Variant Using T 2 -Prepared Inversion. ↗
To develop and validate a repeatable and reproducible approach, QuantoRAGE, for simultaneous whole-brain T1 and T2 mapping using adiabatic magnetization preparation. QuantoRAGE is a 3D FLASH-based sequence using an adiabatic T2-prepared inversion followed by two readout blocks. Sequence repetitions with different preparation durations and inversion times provide T1- and T2-weighted images. Quantitative parameters are voxel-wise estimated by matching signal evolutions to a dictionary generated from extended phase graph simulations. To accelerate the method, the protocol was optimized using Cram

Ethical considerations in the conduct of rare disease neuroscience clinical trials ↗
Abstract Approximately 7,000 rare diseases collectively affect an estimated 300 million people worldwide, yet fewer than 5 percent of these conditions have an approved therapy. Drug development for rare neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders presents unique ethical challenges that distinguish it from clinical research in more prevalent conditions. The rarity and heterogeneity of these disorders necessitate trial designs that depart from conventional randomized controlled trial paradigms, raising important questions about equipoise, placebo use, informed consent, data sharing, and equita…

How to assess evidence about Neuroscience
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
