Earlier sources: Biotechnology
This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗222 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Complete genome analysis of Enterococcus hirae S2 from the gut of Large-Tailed Han sheep reveals genomic potential for bacteriocin production and multidrug resistance risk ↗
The global spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) urgently calls for novel antibacterial lead compounds. The animal intestinal tract serves not only as a reservoir of resistance genes but also as an underexplored source of antimicrobial metabolites. Enterococcus hirae ( E. hirae ), a commensal gut bacterium, has not yet been systematically characterized with respect to the genomic potential for beneficial metabolite production and its associated resistance risk. Hybrid Illumina and PacBio sequencing was employed to determine the complete genome of E. hirae strain S2, isolated from the ileal…

Complete genome sequence of Lactobacillus iners DSM 13336 determined by Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read sequencing ↗
ABSTRACT Lactobacillus iners is a key member of the human vaginal microbiota. We present the complete genome sequence of strain DSM 13336, obtained with Oxford Nanopore Technologies. The obtained single circular chromosome (1,337,293 bp) offers a high-quality genomic resource for L. iners , underscoring the distinctive features of the DSM 13336 strain.

Genome-Wide DNA methylation profiling of tissue-plasma pairs identifies Novel cfDNA biomarkers for the diagnosis of gastric cancer ↗
Screening for gastric cancer (GC) is critical for improving patient survival, yet current clinical methods suffer from invasiveness and limited sensitivity. The aim of this study is to develop a machine learning model for the non-invasive diagnosis of GC using the whole-genome methylation profile of circulating free DNA (cfDNA) in plasma. Plasma cfDNA from 61 patients with GC and 29 healthy controls. First, whole‑genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) was performed on 29 paired GC and adjacent normal tissues to identify differentially methylated regions (DMRs). These tissue DMRs were then mapped t…

The Structural Genome Shapes the Chronic Wound Microbiome ↗
Recent studies report associations between the patient genome and the chronic wound microbiome, suggesting a causal relationship. Guided by the expectation that larger genomic perturbations are less likely to be neutral, here we study the association of genomic copy number variants (CNVs) with abundances of wound species. Genomic and metagenomic data were collected from 597 patients with chronic wounds at initial clinical visit. Association studies included 831 CNVs and 68 species, implementing a two-cohort design and study-wide significance threshold. There were 47 CNVs (5.7%) associated with

PacBio HiFi sequence data reveal a chromosomal misassembly in the Candida parapsilosis CDC 317 reference sequence and provide a foundation for resolving diploid genome structure ↗
The diploid ascomycetous yeast Candida parapsilosis accounts for an increasing proportion of invasive Candida infections, highlighting the need for improved genome resources to support studies of pathogenesis and antifungal drug resistance. Here, a Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) HiFi read set was used to generate a collapsed haploid nuclear genome assembly and to explore phased diploid genome structure for C. parapsilosis strain CDC 317, the strain used for the current GenBank reference assembly. The assembly read set represented approximately 50× genome coverage, had a mean read length of 22.1

Therapeutic Horizons of CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing in Overcoming Bacterial Antimicrobial Resistance: A Comprehensive Narrative Review ↗
Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a global public health crisis that threatens to render conventional antibiotic regimens obsolete. The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-associated protein 9 (CRISPR/Cas9) system has emerged as a revolutionary tool in molecular biology, offering unmatched sequence-specific genome-editing capabilities. By leveraging custom single-guide RNAs (sgRNAs), CRISPR/Cas9 can precisely target, cleave, or modify specific genomic and plasmid-borne resistance determinants, thereby neutralizing resistance pathways or directly inducing

The genome sequence of the eyed flat-backed millipede, Nanogona polydesmoides (Leach, 1814) ↗
We present a genome assembly from a specimen of Nanogona polydesmoides (eyed flat-backed millipede; Arthropoda; Diplopoda; Chordeumatida; Craspedosomatidae). The genome sequence has a total length of 406.26 megabases. Most of the assembly (95.49%) is scaffolded into 16 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 16.55 kilobases.

The genome sequence of grey willow, Salix cinerea L. (Malpighiales: Salicaceae) ↗
We present a genome assembly of the tetraploid Salix cinerea (2 n = 4 x = 76; grey willow; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Malpighiales; Salicaceae). The submitted sequence comprises two assemblies designated haplotype 1 and haplotype 2, with total lengths of 386.72 megabases and 1,004.23 megabases, respectively. Haplotype 1 represents a single monoploid chromosome complement; 87.7% was scaffolded into 19 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the Z sex chromosome. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome assembly has a length of 686.79 kilobases and the plastid genom

ERGA-BGE reference genome of the bladderpod Alyssoides utriculata (L.) Medik. (Brassicaceae), a yellow-flowering shrub native to Switzerland ↗
We present the chromosome-level genome assembly for bladderrpod, Alyssoides utriculata (Brassicales: Brassicaceae), the only currently accepted species in the genus Alyssoides. The phased assembly comprises two haplotypes with total lengths of 1.01 Gb and 0.98 Gb, respectively. For each haplotype, eight chromosome-scale pseudomolecules were recovered. Haplotype 1 comprises 310 contigs assembled into 228 scaffolds, with contig and scaffold N50 values of 108.1 Mb and 135.9 Mb, respectively. Haplotype 2 comprises 181 contigs assembled into 96 scaffolds, with contig and scaffold N50 values of 73.2

A genomic resource for a hidden endemic: the complete chloroplast genome of Allium aktauense from Uzbekistan ↗
Allium aktauense is a narrow endemic species from the Aktau Range in the Nurotau Mountains, Western Pamir-Alay, Uzbekistan, where it grows in rocky limestone crevices. Genomic resources for this species have previously been limited, restricting molecular assessment of its phylogenetic placement. In this study, we sequenced, assembled and characterized the complete chloroplast genome of A. aktauense and evaluated its phylogenetic position within Allium using comparative plastome data. The plastome is 152,443 bp long and has the typical quadripartite organization, comprising a large single-copy

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
