Earlier sources: Biotechnology
This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗223 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

An Exploratory Randomized Clinical Trial to Assess the Effects of Vitamin D and Leucine-Enriched Whey Protein Supplementation on Inflammaging and Gut Eubacterial Biomass in Cardiac Rehabilitation Patients ↗
Whey protein (WP) supplementation could affect low-grade inflammation (inflammaging) and gut microbiome dysbiosis, both of which play key roles in non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Twenty-seven cardiac rehabilitation patients were randomly allocated to two groups: the case group (CA) (n = 14) received 80 g/die vitamin D and leucine-enriched WP supplement, combined with a standard hospital diet, while the control group (CO, n = 13) received the standard hospital diet alone. Blood and stool samples were collected at baseline (T0) and after two weeks (T1). At T1, serum levels of interleukin 6 (IL…

Atypical fusion among non-malignant cells: Unveiling the link between post-fusion-induced genome chaos and cancer initiation ↗
BACKGROUND: Atypical cell fusion events can disrupt the normal post-fusion process, initiating genome chaos through the merging of parental genomes accompanied by severe and complex gross structural changes. Consequently, unscheduled fusion events can accelerate tumorigenesis by fostering persistent genomic instability, serving as catalysts in the post-hybrid selection process and decisively contributing to the acquisition of novel and malignant properties. Understanding how hybrid cells survive after fusion and identifying specific transcriptional and phenotypic signatures that characterize h…

Genome-wide characterization of the cytochrome P450 superfamily reveals candidate genes associated with specialized metabolism and abiotic stress responses in Dendrobium nobile ↗
Abstract Background Plants produce a diverse range of bioactive molecules, including hormones, specialized metabolites, and defense-related compounds. Cytochrome P450 (CYP) proteins contribute substantially to this chemical diversity. This study systematically identified 242 CYP family genes in Dendrobium nobile L. and analyzed their phylogenetic relationships, protein motifs, gene structures, chromosomal locations, collinearity, cis-elements in the promoter, and expression patterns under abiotic stress and in different tissues. Results The 242 DnCYP proteins were classified into 39 families a…

FusionEP: Adaptive Cross-Modal Deep Fusion Network for Essential Protein Identification via Multi-Omics Integration and Contrastive Learning ↗
Identifying essential proteins lays a foundation for dissecting disease mechanisms and mining therapeutic targets. Existing algorithms mostly adopt unimodal inputs and struggle to capture multi-level biological interactions from genomics, subcellular localization and proteomics. We present FusionEP, which is an adaptive cross-modal deep fusion network built upon contrastive learning to predict essential proteins. FusionEP integrates gene expression profiles, subcellular localization features, and protein interaction map structures. For gene expression information, we design a six-layer Transfo…

Circulating sphingomyelins and mortality in a community-based Korean cohort: the Korean Genome and epidemiology study ↗
Circulating sphingomyelins (SMs) have been proposed as biomarkers of mortality and cardiovascular risk, but findings have varied across populations. We aimed to evaluate the associations in a community-based Korean cohort. This cohort study included 2,434 participants from the Ansan–Ansung cohort of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. Seven SM species were measured at the 2005–2006 examination, and mortality data were linked through December 2024. Associations with all-cause, cardiovascular, and non-cardiovascular mortality and the composite cardiovascular outcome were examined using Cox…

Whole-Genome Sequencing in Diagnostics of Unsolved Cases of Inherited Retinal Diseases ↗
The study purpose was to assess the diagnostic value of whole-genome sequencing (WGS) in identifying candidate genetic variants in patients with inherited retinal diseases (IRDs). We investigated 107 unrelated Russian patients with retinal diseases who carried single pathogenic variants in any of nine common autosomal recessive IRD genes (ABCA4, USH2A, EYS, CRB1, RPE65, CNGB3, CNGA3, CEP290, and GUCY2D). WGS was performed for all patients; candidate splice variants were functionally validated using minigene assays. The total diagnostic yield was 40.2% (43/107). In 25.2% of cases (27/107), the…

Natural Dyeing of Protein-Based Textiles with Prunus spinosa L. Fruit Extract: An Integrated Assessment of Dyeing Performance, Mordant Effects, and Dye-Bath Reuse ↗
Prunus spinosa fruit extract was investigated as a plant-derived coloring system for protein-based textiles by evaluating the effects of substrate, mordanting, dyeing conditions, and dye-bath pH. Knitted wool, woven wool, and silk were dyed without mordant or with alum or black tea biomordant and evaluated by K/S, CIELAB parameters, apparent dye-bath exhaustion, residual-bath reuse, and color fastness. Dyeing performance varied with substrate and processing conditions, with knitted wool consistently exhibiting the highest color strength. At 100 °C, extending dyeing from 1 to 3 h increased K/S…

From Prediction to Generation: Artificial Intelligence Reconstructing the Paradigm of Protein Glycosylation Research ↗
Among post-translational modifications, protein glycosylation is distinguished by its abundance and structural intricacy. Unlike protein biosynthesis, glycan assembly follows no template; it reflects glycosyltransferase/glycosidase competition, sugar-donor availability, and organelle-enforced compartmentalization, yielding heterogeneous glycoforms that confer functional versatility but complicate analysis. Three bottlenecks persist: stereochemical control in chemical glycosylation, ambiguous assignment of occupancy sites, and reproducing native conformations of fully glycosylated proteins. Ado…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
