Earlier sources: Biotechnology
This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗223 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Chromosome-level genome assembly and annotation of the parthenogenetic nematode Acrobeloides nanus ↗
Acrobeloides nanus is a species of widely distributed bacteria-feeding nematodes belonging to the family Cephalobidae. It reproduces parthenogenetically, making it a valuable system for studying the consequences of obligate asexuality, and exhibits early developmental processes that differ significantly from the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. Additionally, the species has demonstrated remarkable resistance in extreme conditions, surviving near-complete desiccation through anhydrobiosis. This new chromosome-level genome assembly provides a high-quality reference to study these traits. C…

Sequence‐encoded dynamics diversify allostery within a conserved protein scaffold ↗
Abstract Proteins evolve allosteric mechanisms through sequence variation while preserving a conserved structural fold. How these substitutions reshape the protein's conformational landscape to drive functional diversification remains poorly understood. Members of the cAMP receptor protein family (CRP), a ubiquitous bacterial transcription factor, share a common architecture yet differentially couple cAMP binding to DNA interactions. Here, our results support a model in which allosteric diversification in CRP arises from the tuning of sequence‐encoded protein's conformational dynamics. Compara…

Multiplexed single-molecule analysis of barcoded protein variants ↗
Abstract Single-molecule techniques provide exceptional resolution of biomolecular dynamics but are limited by low throughput. Here, we present a DNA barcoding strategy that enables parallel kinetic profiling of multiple protein variants in a single experiment. Each protein is covalently linked to a unique DNA barcode, decoded through transient hybridisation of fluorescent probes distinguished by colour and binding duration. Applied to a library of 16 ClpS variants, this approach revealed ~5-fold variation in dissociation kinetics and uncovered previously unrecognised bimodal binding behaviour…

Genetic and metabolomic differentiation of Dryas octopetala in Svalbard: genome-wide SNP evidence and region-specific marker development ↗
Abstract Background Dryas octopetala , the dominant tundra species in Svalbard, is a suitable model for examining population differentiation under extreme environmental conditions. Although earlier amplified fragment length polymorphism and simple sequence repeat studies have provided baseline information, the genomic and metabolomic structures within the Svalbard populations have not been comprehensively characterized. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the genetic structure of D. octopetala populations across seven sites in Svalbard using genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) geno…

Structural basis for ITP-selective hydrolysis by a CRISPR-associated Nudix hydrolase ↗
ABSTRACT The nucleoside diphosphates linked to moiety-X (Nudix) hydrolases are a superfamily of proteins defined by the characteristic Nudix box sequence, most of which are involved in clearing the cell of potentially deleterious metabolites and in preventing the accumulation of metabolic intermediates. The Nudix hydrolase associated with CRISPR-Cas-associated adenosine deaminases (CAAD) from Limisphaera ngatamarikiensis ( Lng NH) mitigates CAAD-induced toxicity by hydrolyzing ITP to IMP and pyrophosphate. Here, we determined crystal structures of Lng NH in the apo form and in complex with ITP…

Representation choice shapes the interpretation of protein conformational dynamics ↗
Abstract Molecular dynamics simulations provide detailed trajectories at the atomic level, but extracting interpretable and robust insights from these high-dimensional data remains challenging. In practice, analyses typically rely on a single representation. Here, we show that representation choice is not neutral: it fundamentally shapes the conformational organization, similarity relationships, and apparent transitions inferred from identical simulation data. To complement existing representations, we introduce Orientation features, a geometrically grounded, rotation-aware encoding of protein…

Cellular mechanism of gain-of-function mutation I173M in sheep MC4R gene identified in year-round and seasonal estrus breeds through whole-genome resequencing ↗
Abstract Background Investigating key genes regulating year-round estrus can improve sheep reproductive performance and industry efficiency. Although several candidate genes have been proposed, the key regulators underlying estrus seasonality remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to identify critical genetic variants associated with year-round estrus using whole-genome resequencing data from multiple sheep breeds. Results In this study, we analyzed whole-genome resequencing data from 392 sheep across six year-round and ten seasonal estrus breeds, and identified the Melanocortin 4 recepto…

Organellar Genome Analysis of the Red Alga Acrosorium flabellatum (Rhodophyta, Ceramiales, Delesseriaceae): Evidence of Gene Duplication and Group II Intron in cox1 Gene ↗
Mitochondrial genomes (mitogenome) offer important information about evolutionary history, genomic diversity, and structural dynamics of Rhodophytes. The complete mitochondrial genome of Acrosorium flabellatum Yamada, 1930 (Delesseriaceae, Ceramiales), is reported in this study. The circular mitogenome spans 31,818 bp and has a biased A+T (78.8%) composition. The mitogenome contains 61 genes, including two rRNAs, 33 tRNAs, 24 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and two open reading frames (ORFs). Notably, the mitogenome contains several duplicated genes (nad6, sdh3, sdh2) and a Group II intron within…

Genome-wide association study and genomic selection reveal the genetic architecture of glycogen content in autotetraploid Crassostrea gigas ↗
Autotetraploid Crassostrea gigas is an economically important marine mollusk that has attracted considerable attention because of its ability to stably produce triploid C. gigas . Glycogen content is a key nutritional trait affecting the flavor and quality of C. gigas , and improving this trait has become an important breeding and commercial objective. In this study, we conducted genome-wide association study (GWAS) and genomic selection (GS) analyses of glycogen content in autotetraploid C. gigas for the first time. A total of four significant SNPs and 18 suggestive SNPs were identified, and…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
