Earlier sources: Biotechnology

This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

226 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Designing Protein Structures from Natural Language ↗

A central challenge in de novo protein design is generating proteins with desired structural and functional properties. Existing design models typically require a dedicated input representation for each property, limiting the design objectives they support. We develop Prompteina, the first all-atom structure generation model that supports new and broader design objectives specified in natural language, analogous to text-to-image generation. To train Prompteina, we construct Prompteina-Data, a paired text--protein structure dataset of 1.8M structures and 50M+ captions describing global and resi…

Whole-Genome Sequencing Re-Identifies Clinical “Peptoniphilus harei” Isolates as “Peptoniphilus genitalis” ↗

Accurate species-level identification within the genus Peptoniphilus is challenging, yet routine methods, including biochemical identification, MALDI-TOF MS, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, have not been systematically evaluated. We re-identified seven clinical isolates recovered between 2019 and 2025 from blood, ovarian abscess, diabetic foot, and skin and soft tissue, using VITEK-2 ANC, two MALDI-TOF MS platforms (Autof ms1000 and Bruker Biotyper), 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) combined with average nucleotide identity (ANI) analysis. VITEK-2 reported all seven is…

A Salmonella -specific protein enhances the antimicrobial peptide response of the PhoPQ two-component system ↗

ABSTRACT Salmonella enterica , a major global pathogen, has evolved a distinctive pathogenesis that differs from related enteric pathogens. A central regulator of Salmonella -specific virulence gene expression is the broadly conserved PhoP/PhoQ (PhoPQ) two-component system. PhoPQ serves a distinct role in Salmonella compared to other species, suggesting a need to adapt its function for its unique and expanded role in this species. In this study, we identify a novel, Salmonella -specific component of the PhoPQ signaling system, a small putative lipoprotein we name PalA. We show that PalA locali…

The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 806.52 megabases and 812.77 megabases. Haplotypes 1 and 2 each contain 16 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the X sex chromosome; these account for 95.54% and 96.53% of their respective sequences. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 16.33 kilobases. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces genomes for eukaryotic species found in…

Structural and Functional Consequences of Arg512 Mutations in Methyl-CpG-Binding Domain Protein 4 ↗

Methyl-CpG-binding domain protein 4 (MBD4) is a base excision repair glycosylase that removes the thymine of a T:G mispair. If left unrepaired, these mismatches can cause C>T transitions. Human MBD4 uses an arginine finger, R468, to flip the mispaired thymine into its active site and to stabilize the orphaned guanine. MBD4 also possesses a second highly conserved arginine, R512, in close proximity to R468, whose role remains unknown despite an R512W mutation catalogued in colorectal cancers and an R512Q mutation reported in Myelodysplastic Syndromes. Here, we investigate the structural and fun…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
